So, for some reason, I want to build this informational center thing, using a Mushroom-style iMac (the one with the Luxo-Lamp style arm). I'd take a couple of Infrared LEDs and perch them on the little transparent bezel (trying to be as subtle as possible) and then rig it up with a Bluetooth adaptor, Darwiin Remote, and a Wiimote for a Ten-Foot-interface (Wii- or iPhone- or some other remote-style interface).

There'd be a few tricks. It'd be a big storage storage drive hooked up (as supplemental network storage), Connect360 for my 360, maybe a WebDAV server for iCal, a remote function to trigger shit in XBMC (I have a decent amount of content the 360 can't play), an RSS reader (the screensaver and a better, more functional reader), and maybe some other stuff.

The thing is, I don't know any kind of interface I could use (hacked AppleTV interface? But then why would I need the Wiimote tracking?), or any other applications I could run on there. The thing is going to be set up a distance away, so I probably won't be staring at it for a long time, but using it as a quick reference or resource. Plus, I'm not sure where to find a cheap Mushroom iMac. I've also got a problem picking up an old G4. It's barely faster than my laptop (which is an iBook G4) and I'd prefer to have something faster, so anyone know a trick to retrofit this with something faster (Intel Core maybe? G5 at least?) Or at least where I can find one of these for cheap?

You realise that if you are far enough away to need a remote, then you are going to be too far away to see anything on the screen right?

He has a point.
But i wouldnt mind seeing this little set up if it ever amounts to anything.

Best interface would be a basic web server.
