I was going to start a thread about this, and came across your thread in a search.
I really like this show as well, and didn't think I would. I will say that the Monday, Tuesday, and especially Wednesday stories are much stronger than the Thursday and Friday stories, but overall I think the show is quite good.
My favorite episodes were the Glynn Turman (Alex's Father) episode and the last Sophie episode. I think Turman should have gotten an emmy nomination for his role and that the girl who plays Sophie is just a brilliant actress.

I think its a really cool show, though slightly daunting. I like the idea of a daily show a lot, especially a daily show who's story line works with that time frame (a doctors daily visits).
That being said I get a bit scared of the show. If I had seen it from the beginning I would totally love it, but since I came in half way through I have to play a lot of catch up. Thats really no trouble, but i feel like once i finally get to know one of the patients, I have to go learn about another. All in all it seems like a lot of work for somebody coming late to the show.
That aside, I love Jake and Amy.. Not sure why.. but they seem really genuine. My parents went through the same thing and to be honest I'm shocked I'm not as troubled by seeing what maybe went on for them.
Further, I like the way its shot: very old school, long shots and one setting. In older movies you see characters exist in one setting and you get used to it, it comforts you. This is a sharp departure from the fast, snappy, hair trigger handycam work that is in a lot of shows these days. I like the slower paced shots and setting, allowing me to get ahold of the actors and what's going on instead of having to adjust to a knew camera angle and setting every 2 seconds. Very West Wing like that..
Overall, great show and I'll be sure to watch all the back episodes so I can stop bitching about having to catch up.

I saw it with HBO On Demand, so I saw it all in order a week at a time. I think that's definitely the best way to go.
