Although this is listed as Large Quicktime, it's actually quite small and even for this resolution has a very low bitrate compared to some other podcasts I watch. I know it isn't exactly action packed, but I often watch the podcast on a 50" tv streamed in over the 360, and it can be quite pixellated.

Not a knock on the show in any way, I've enjoyed pretty much everything in here, maybe even caused me to go out and order the odd book I wouldn't normally have... hmm maybe that's a vad thing, considering my $30-$50 dollar a week habit (not including stuff like Absolute Sandman...).

We'll be going HD this year, and your problems will be history. We'll give details when we have them.

Why not 3D?

We didn't mention the upcoming, house-by-house tour?

Weird.

Slightly unrelated, but does anyone know if it's possible to subscribe to the video show on one's own Xbox 360? It would be great to be able to watch the show on my nice DLP, but I don't really know if the infrastructure is there yet.

Also: I don't always buy the books you guys talk about. When do you start sending me those?

I also have laundry that needs getting done... So... If you guys could get on that with your house tour, that'd be great... I'm starting to smell...

I think it would be cool if the show was in HD, you guys actually personally sent me hand written liner notes, and came to my house to perform it. Keep in mind that I reserve the right to throw popcorn at you if you go off script.

Is it ok that I posted it here or should I have started a new thread called Shit I have no right to complain about because you provide me with free entertainment?

With all due respect, I think this is terribly faulty and insulting mode of thought.

Free to download /= Free from criticism.

While we all can be appreciative of the work that goes into producing a podcast, game mod or album and offering that for little to no cost; withholding honest judgment, critique or slacking the standard we hold those things to is faulty in the extreme.

Ultimately that sort of laxity leads to mindless backslapping and an environment of non-intellectualism. Which has no purpose for creators or consumers.

Not a complaint against this particular podcast or any other. But I don't think it is healthy to let that attitude foster in an emergent medium such as podcasting or anywhere really.

(Also not an attack on Fred. He is welcome to believe such a thing. Good conscience should not allow such an attitude to persist, however.)

I have no problem with someone critiquing the content of anything. The problem is when people critique things like available formats for something that is free. I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but video shows and specifically HD video shows are kind of expensive to produce. ;) And there isn't really a hell out a lot of money in producing free content. This is a show done by three guys with day jobs after all.

The OP had a valid suggestion. It wasn't a criticism, really.

More over there should not be any separation of critiquing the content or the quality of production.

It is at the creator's discretion to provide the show. Once you put it out there, it is open to judgment.

In other words, you can't take it back.

Lucky for our OP that the show is soon to be HD.

Again, I personally have no complain about iFanboy and neither did the OP. We shouldn't discourage people from offering honest critique, suggestions or opinions.

I think critique is an awesome thing. We're all big enough to give and take it. For that reason, I don't think this guys claim is all that far offbase. He gave a reason for improvement. Small video + Big screen = Lower quality. There's no real reason that three men sitting almost motionless on a couch should be in high definition though. This isn't iMax it's iFanboy. They're giving us free and quality content.

I was speaking in the abstract.

...and so what?

That excuses nothing and services nothing.

three men sitting almost motionless on a couch

This phrase makes me laugh and laugh.

The original poster didn't criticize the show, which would be fine if he had. But I don't want him to feel like people are attacking him for it.

That being said, there's a line for criticizing people (us) who do things like this, which are available free. But no one has ever really crossed it. I'm shocked at how supportive and friendly people have been. And if people don't like, they tend to move along quickly.

The only person who has criticized us from the beginning, but keeps listening, is Darrell, and he's awesome. So we'll take him any day.
