View Full Version : How INSANE is your monthly pull list?

I decided to update my pull list today. You know, take off the mini's that have ended and the books I've dropped, and add what I know I'll be getting over the next few months at least. I just finished and it's INSANE how many books I get monthly! I was wondering how many of you have the same problem? Comics in general have been just too damn good lately.

That is way too many books and unless you are independantly wealthy just nonsensical. You can read Issue Summarys on most of those books and get the same experience as reading the book. There just arent that many well read, well drawn books. This is the sign of a comic addict and not a discerning comic book reader. I personally only have about 15 on my pull and keep up with a lot of books on summary only picking up the books if the summary seems to hint at a more nuanced story inside that is worth further reading.

What's AVATAR: Black Summer about?
It's a Warren Ellis series about a superheroe that decides he doesn't like the way the President is running america and kills him. It follows his former teamates as they react to what he has just done. It's pretty good.

I wish I had the money to buy comics these days. Even with my tax return, I won't be able to spend much in the near future. I just got hooked last year, and every time I've thought about buying comics for the past couple of months, I've thought about my tuition bills and other more pressing engagements.
When I graduate, I will be truly be happy.

I'm quite excited for it. Admittedly, Cable and Deadpool isn't my favorite book, but I think it'll be exciting to see what they do with Deadpool in his next book. That is, unless they've just been trying to please the crowd, and his next series is only a mini. Deadpool needs an ongoing.

Try a new method of mine that is actually working out pretty well. Find a title or two that, while you still might enjoy, you also think you could wait a bit on when it comes to reading. And instead of trade waiting or whatever, maybe once every half year or so, go find a convention nearby and just pick up everything you skipped in Dollar bins or Half of or whatever. It'll save you some dough, and give you a nice chunk of books to randomly read on a slow day.

I try to keep it around $60 a month (assuming four weeks = a month). Even THAT is tricky on the budgets. But I have absolutely no other vices. Don't drink, don't smoke, don't buy video games or a lot of DVD's, don't eat out much... comics. That's it.

About $200-$225 on issues and another $50 on TPBs. So about $250 minimum, $300 if a bunch of TPBs and stuff came in.

My fiance has set my weekly maximum at 8 books a week, which is good for me because I'm flippin' horrible with money, and its helping us save for our wedding. Usually, if its a light week (which is rare...there's just too much goodness out there), I'll throw a trade in.
Before this mandate, I was buying 20-25 books a week. It was insanity.

Man, that some of you guys get 60-70+ books a month astonishes me. I mean, more power to you if you enjoy them all, but I can't possibly imagine that there are 3X as many books as I get now, that I'd really enjoy.
Just imagine how much Conor, Ron, and Josh buy. It would make you cross eyed.

Mine isn't that bad, really. I only average 6 or so books a week. Sometimes slightly more, sometimes slightly less. I will not buy anything that I feel is not likely to entertain me. If I hear enough good about a book from enough sources, I might give it a shot however.
I think a lot of what Conor, Ron and Josh buy is bought for purposes of their 'job'. Not that they don't enjoy a lot of it, but they probably wouldn't buy so much if they weren't expected to know so much about what is going on. I know, from listening to the show, that they often will buy things on a whim or just because a lot of people are buying that book and they will need to know something about it. Sometimes that works out... sometimes it doesn't.

When I was in school it was bad. I used to spend somehwere in the neighborhood of 40-50 dollars a week, so that was about 14-16 books a week. nearly 200 dollars a month.
Than I lost my 3 jobs, couldnt afford comicbooks, but when i got my act together I went to a con for the first time and found i can get trades for cheap. so now i m at 6 books a week. I try not to spend more than 20 dollars. I only pick up issues I enjoy and wait for cons for the trades

I walk out with about four books a week sometimes up to six. I feel bad about that i used to leave the shop with twenty or so books a week, but my i end up getting a lot of things in trade. so i guess that makes up the slack. But still i seem to be having a hard time finding books i enjoy.

It's not so much 'job' as it is job.

I used to limit myself to ten books a week, but now I limit myself to five. Money is part of the reason, but the truth is, at ten a week, I'd often end up with three or four books I didn't really enjoy and was just reading out of habit or a sense of responsibility, which is not really how one should choose their entertainment, methinks.

Yes, I definitely do. It's mostly because of increased exposure to more books. The discussion on the Pick of the Week Podcast has definitely caused me to buy more than I normally would. Books like Fear Agent, Fell, and Checkmate were all bought because of iFanbase lobbying.

I didn't buy any of those because of the iFanbase. Invincible, Walking Dead and Scalped I bought because I wanted to, Fables because I thought it was long enough that Ron and I had been making fun of Josh for it and we needed to read it.
