Being a newspaper journalist (a profession that continues to evolve and change each and everyday), there is still something so great to me about going to the newsstand and getting a newspaper. Whenever I travel, I like to pick up the local paper and while I may not understand all of the local issues, I find you can learn a lot about a community by reading it's newspaper on any given day. I thought I'd get a list of some of your favorite newspapers and why you love them. For me, reading the morning newspaper (regardless of whether or not you read it in the morning) is something of an American institution. I , like many of you, consume much of my news online when I'm at work but I genuinely love reading the newspaper (though living on the beach where I live is simply one of the most frustrating exercises in human experience).
Atlanta Journal-Constitution - A wonderful, wonderful newspapers. The stories are well-written, thorough but readable and not dripping with pretension (*ahem New York Times).
Indianapolis Star - One of my hometown newspapers. I really love how the Star covers the Indy Metro area and it's sports section is one of the best in the country for my money.
Orlando Sentinel - The AJC and the Sentinel are the best two newspapers published in the South hands down.
I'm interested to hear everyone's feedback and what about your local paper do you love. People in our area seem to like this thing called "Spout Off" that basically allows people to slander one another anonymously. I'm not big on it because people are willing to say anything if they don't have to sign their name. Zero accountability but I digress.
And the people who say print media is dying or even dead, I get it. Trust me. I'm on the front lines here so save your breath.
