Steve Gerber, creator of Howard the Duck, Omega the Unknown, and many other books and characters, died February 10th at the age of 60 (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2008_02_11.html#014809) from pulminary fibrosis. In addition to being a talented writer and one of the many creators from my hometown, Gerber was a staunch advocate for creators' rights whose lawsuit against Marvel in the 70s for control of Howard the Duck has become the stuff of legend. He will be missed.

So sad.
I wonder what he thought of two of his creations (Omega and Howard) coming back from comic book purgatory after so long.

That's very sad. The bad part is I don't think I've ever read any of his stuff.

Well, God bless him. Gerber did some great work in his time.

Wowly shit. I can't believe it. Gerber's work was hugely influential and just amazingly ahead of it's time. There is no one who comes even close to being able to write Howard the Duck like he did. Very sad to lose such a talent so young.

I don't think fans, in general, are aware of the influence of this guy. He was absolutely one of the most important guys in comics in the 70's, 80's and beyond. He stood up to the big guys (Marvel) and held his ground. It was awesome to see.
If you haven't read Howard the Duck - you gotta check it out. It's one of the few comics that will make me laugh out loud!
RIP Steve

The original OMEGA series was like on par with the current one. . . SO it was good. Sorry to see him go.

Newsarama (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=146494) has a small piece up in their Animated Shorts article about Gerber's various animation work. I had no idea he wrote my favorite episode of B:TAS. Just reading various things around the net since the announcement of his passing and his array of work was so vast and really his prints are on so much more then that...it's still just mind blowing to me that he's gone.
