good times in the chat.
Where is this "chat" that everyone speaks of? I can't seem to find it on the site, but granted I just woke up and my brain isn't quite functioning yet.

It was on the temporary placeholder site as they transitioned into 3.0. Started as just the three guys on individual live video feeds and then they added a chat window for us. Eventually Gordon got a video feed as well.
This was around 11:30 EST last night.

Ha. Thankfully I've turned my text message notifications on my phone off b/c I would have never gotten sleep with the flurry of iFanboy 3.0 texts last night.
I was actually in the chat a few times. I never bothered putting in my name though. I wanted to stay incognito as Guest32798723987 so that I could make fun of people. I'm joking, I didn't because I'm lazy.

You can set up an IRC channel. That way anyone can jump in anytime of day. There are web apps for joining an IRC or you can use your own client.
Of course, we can set one up ourselves and party down. Only the iFanboys can provide the web link to such a chat though.
Unless we host our own. But that would be exclusionary to a degree.

From Jonathan Hickman's website at the beginning of January:In Feb. (maybe sooner, but doubtful) I’ll be starting a bi-weekly column for iFanboy.com. These fine gentlemen do comic webcast (video + audio) and will be rolling out a new website - part of which will be additional content (the me part). So, I have a pretty good idea of what I’ll be doing, but are there any suggestions on what you might like to read about?
Let me know…
Guys, how did we not catch on sooner?

Makes sure it ends .JPG and is between 50x50 and 80x80 pixels. I tried playing with a couple of different pics last night and that's what I found worked best.

The chatting last night really was alot of fun, but it would be hard to make it a regular thing me thinks, unless it was just a neat community thing that was on the main page of the site.
I think I ended up staying on for like 4hours or so, then another 2 hours afterwards sending e-mails about bugs I found on the site, was alot of fun thou :)
Although I missed Josh completely and Ron's visual (is it true he does his best debugging naked or was that an excuse?) it was fun in a strange way. Strange because by the time I found it, the guys were really concentrating on getting the site up while the rest of us chatted unnoticed.
I still wonder how many screens Conor has, or is it one giant screen like all heroes have so that villains can cackle at them?
I think any video chats should be kamikazee events. They should just pop up, unannounced. But next time sound!

That's something we definitely have planned.
You can rate a book without reviewing it, but you can't rate it without pulling it.
For example, New Avengers. I pulled it. I go to Your Comics and see it, but I don't see "Rate it" or something like that. I do see the review link, but if I put a rating into that without putting anything into the review editor, it throws an alert saying the box is empty.

When you've pulled a book once the clock strikes Wednesday five blanks stars appear below the pullbox. That's how you rate the book without reviewing it.
There's a bug right now that we're working on where if you've pulled book on the comics page it is marked as unpulled in the individual book page. Just pull it again to make the stars appear - it doesn't effect the numbers.

I imagine it works similar to this; if three people rate a comic, two give it a solid 2 stars and one gives it three stars- the average would be 2.5 for that comic.
Or something like that.

Bug. It's been fixed for all ratings going forward.
The only problem I've had this entire time has been the avatar problem, which I'm not too worried about, but I'd like to stop and say how impressed I am with how you guys are really keeping on top of things. Going by Jonathan's post at the beginning of January, I'm going to go ahead and guess this has been eatting away at your life for a long while.

That's why I said "or something like that".
It may be a combination of- number of votes and the actual rating. Without knowing the specifics too well, I assume that is the case. Only extrapolated for the number and value of ratings. Could be anything really.I guess, though I've never seen a system like this work on anything other than averages. Which appears to be the case here, as Conor says it was a bug.

So how is everyone liking the new site, and how has it affected the way you use it, how much, etc?
I find myself checking it an awful lot, and just generally enjoying the content a lot more (there's a lot more of it!), but I still don't post there a whole lot. Or maybe I do, and it just seems like I don't because I'm over here so much.

You know, there's soooo much going on over there that it's still a little overwhelming. Every time I look, there are 100 new things to look at. People putting up their comments and pull lists and reviews, and comments about other people's reviews and reviews of comments... today I discovered that the iFanboys are reviewing books in the Reviews section even when it's not their PoW... the content is just unrelenting. I should never be bored again if I ever figure out where to start. Right now, I feel like I'm always missing something.

Yeah, and I'm biased to mostly reading in trades. I think the reviews are absolutely fabulous. It's the same reason I rarely even enter the discussion thread here. I'm so enamored with everything else going on, I just don't really care. I've read a few of the reviews on the site, and I've been pleasantly surprised at how well done they are. Very little pointless l33tspeak. You three seem to have weeded it down to a good audience, some how. A great task on the internetz.

ya i have the same problem, it doesn't save my login on any pc i've used. I still can't upload my avatar either.
Also, i've got a question for you guys (iFanboys), do you have a place on the page where you can see all the members? like say if i wanted to see iSteve or Six Gun's pull lists/reviews is there any place i can easily find it, or do i have do a search specifically for them?
labor_days
02-28-2008, 08:29 PM
Actually, I have the same complaint as Mike. The site doesn't remember my login info at all. But it's kinda minor and I didn't know if anyone else had the same problem till now. Squeaky wheels, eh?
I was just thinking that it would be cool to be able to add others as "friends" to your profile. Not to go down that social networking path too much. But I would like to have a nice tab with say Mike, paper, Steve or Six on a friend list thingie and just click 'em and see what each are pulling for the week, their reviews and comments. Bit of a chore having to search everyone out one by one on the site.
Forgive me if I overstep myself here.

Yeah, good idea! We need a members list with friends. Also, I don't think there's a way to see a list of everyone who has pulled a book...it only shows like five I think.
Here's a design suggestion from a non-designer: on the front page, instead of listing two stories side by side and then three below it. Just list the latest five from top to bottom. I think readability would be a lot better. Most people are used to news sites that are formatted that way.

I love the new site, but it is a bit complicated. It's kinda overwhelming at times. Maybe it just seems that way to me because it's new. I, too, would like to be able to search for folks comments and pull lists with more ease than is now possible.

Hehe. I don't hate Twitter. It's just hard for me to follow without context. At least this way I'll know Neb is talking about Superman or Six is commenting on digital comics. =)
I'm sure I would love Twitter if I find someone with compelling commentary not rooted in; "work/school is a drag", "Hey my cat did something cute". Or cryptic musings on people & events I never met or taken part of.

Hey everyone...
thanks for the feedback.
- We're aware of the XP/FF site hanging issue and are working on chasing it down - we're sorry for the inconvenience but hang with us
- speed of the site is a concern as well, we're in our infancy with the new site as well as the tremendous amount of traffic we've been getting, it's a challenge to get the site and the server balanced correctly, so again, bear with us.
- the remember me function is indeed being worked on, and it should be fixed very soon
thanks!

I just noticed for the first time that on the main http://revision3.com/ifanboy/ page, there is a "community" tab that just shows the last ten posts regardless of thread.
I love it.
Ron, if you have any magic that you can work in this area one day... this is what I wish the RSS feed did. Right now, it just alerts you when a new thread is put up, without even showing you the first post in that thread. This I do not need.

Glad you dig - if you also look, on the individual episodes, there is a "Discussion" tab that pulls in the specific thread about that episode and shows the most recent posts.

I.E. http://www.ifanboy.com/users/labor OR http://www.ifanboy.com/users/PaulMontgomery OR http://www.ifanboy.com/users/conor
