Buying a CHEAPER case, and customizing it to be BETTER then many of the NEW cases..

Venting UP, threw the top.
Buying BETTER case fans, look for MACHINE fans insted.
USE a BIG fan, on the side, even if you have use another PLUG to 110, USE NYLONS as a filter, and get ALL the air you need/want.

HOW about, using a Laptop DVD in a Full system...
SOME of those laptop DVD have the HEAD in the TRAY, makes it easy to clean, when the heads CANT read ANYTHING...

Unfortunately, most of the good basic box type cases for modding are actually pretty pricy for what you get out of the box. Custom case modding is sadly an art that will rarely result in a cheaper price tag, but the results can be very good in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. Especially in this era now where higher end computer cases that are easy to obtain seem to be going DOWN in quality than what I remember the market being like about 5 years ago. Go to a Fry's sometime and look at their lineup of those $150+ dollar cases and see how flimsy they are. I like my Antec P180 a ton which is a new case, but even it has issues.

Also, I would not recommend subjecting yourself to a laptop optical drive when you don't need one due to space. They perform pretty horribly compared to their desktop brethren, and sometimes have weird firmware stuff going on.

It would be cool to see an episode with a stupidly crazy water cooling setup. Just an excuse to use a ton of peltier coolers or something along those lines.
