EA just extended it's exclusive contract with the NFL to 2012. What does this mean? It means that you will be force fed the mediocre Madden franchise for another 4 years. Thoughts?

I've played some good Madden games. The Wii one was fun for about 5 minutes, but I liked the ones for other platforms that year. I hear the last one was shit, though.

I guess it's always a bad situation to be in when you only have one company that can make a proper game, and for several years like that, but I'm confident that if a truly better game can come out it'll do fine without licenses. What little I've seen/played from "Blitz: The League" wasn't good at all, and that's the only competition for Madden I know of.

I dislike EA for other reasons, though...

Before the contract ESPN NFL 2K5 kicked the living crap out of Madden. And no, without that license things don't usually go so well. Have you seen "All Pro Football"? It was an excellent game but without the license just not worth it for many.

was never a 2k series fan until I bought NFL 2k5 to this day I still think it's the best football game ever made.

Madden is crap and without competition it continues to just get worse and more greedy.

VERY TRUE. Even the newer Madden games can't stand up to it. Funny, 2K5 graphics looked better on the PS2 than Madden 08 on the 360 or PS3.

Ever played it on Xbox?
Pretty much passes as an 360 game.

No but I did see what it looked like and it looked incredible.

Yeah, I guess we just get the bare minimum here in Sweden, except maybe in real big stores, seeing as football isn't very big here. I only played the "Blitz" demo because it's on Live.

Well, I still think the best were the old Front Page Sports football games...but 2k5 came as close to that on a console as I've ever seen.

Please don't get crazy. 2K5 was/is an excellent game (even though it's pretty flawed too). I still play it now that it's backward compatible on the 360. To say its graphics are better than Madden 08 is just silly hyperbole.

It sucks that there's no competition in the pro football arena. But I think VC had their shot with APF and they really didn't deliver. It was still a good game, but it was really just 2K5 redux. Big disappointment.

And you can't pin all the blame on EA. The NFL granted the exclusive license. They could have said no--like the NBA does.

force fed? If you feel the need to get there Madden game, just get a 4 year old one for like $5 in the bargain bin, it'll be basically the same game, just an old roster.

Of course it's force fed. You don't have any other choice for an NFL game. Do you?

I don't hear anybody screaming about 2K's monopoly on baseball, and how all of their 360/PS3 have been very lack-luster.

I've been saying this since EA signed the deal 3-4 years ago... Blame the NFL... Both EA and 2K were faced with losing the NFL license... EA put up more money, so they won.

Also, Madden 08 was great, so shut up... You had a valid argument when Madden 07 (which sucked) came out, but now you're just talking out of your ass.

I'm not huge into football so i never play madden often, but i do know that nhl 08 is one of the best hockey games ever created.

They don't. These exclusive deals that are made are for third party developers. Meaning MS and Sony could potentially make their own game. Much like MLB the Show.

I don't hear anybody screaming about 2K's monopoly on baseball, and how all of their 360/PS3 have been very lack-luster.

Lack of competition in both sets of sports games is resulting in very unacceptable quality games. I have heard some rumors that MLB might be trying to get out of its exclusivity deal with 2k.

I really really liked Madden 05. It's miles better than any other Madden I've played. I literally can't think of how 2K5 could have been better than 05 in my eyes.

Yes, if I wanted to play a NFL branded football game then yes, i wouldn't have a choice. The same way if I wanted to play a Halo branded FPS, I wouldn't have any choice but to go with Bungie...

On a side note, I don't like most sports games, they tend to bore me.

The only reason I play fight night, is because it's the only boxing game out there, but it still sucks unbelievably. NFL BLitz League does suck, but the first two Blitz'z are actually quite good. Madden does suck, especially online, all online games from EA suck. (that I've played). EA sucks, the website sucks, the company's policies suck, I amazed they release some of the games they release with the extent of flaws that they have.

I was rather amazing seeing some of the flaws on MLB 2k7 on Xbox. Just to mention two:

-Baserunner going all the way to the right field wall.
-Right handed batter wearing a lefty's batting helmet.

You can pick the company to bash.

The visuals the animations the controls announcers sounded better than maddens "whe....whe...whe..when you get the ball in the.....the the endzone....that...that is a touchdown" capt studder obvious.
The ESPN license it had complete with sports center and highlights and half time and after game interviews with players.

You really got the feeling this was an NFL broad casted game and the create a fan (which EA ripped off later and it was lame compared to 2k's version) the whole house thing you could customize with your team and all the trophies and mini games and unlockable videos oh and the upload custom tracks to use in the game...optional FP play and it used XBL also had more choice of stadiums and uniforms and also had create teams and players and of course franchise mode and prob a few other features I am missing ..the game was just packed with extras.

Seriously go find a used copy ..it only costs 1$ at gamestop.

Ok, EA Sports was excellent THIS YEAR. This was the first year that they beat NHL 2K8. And as for the MLB games, I don't really play em'. But in terms of their practices around the Madden franchise they are, in fact, horrible. AND YES, to those who say "Of course Madden's next-gen graphics look better than 2K5 on XBOX or PS2" Madden's players STILL look like Neanderthal Robots on steroids. Their body composition compared to 2K5 is horrible. Ooooo, woooww, look at Madden, it's got the almighty hit stick. So what! :D

The players in Madden '08 look great for me. I have seen a lot of people who played it and the aspect ratio was messed up so people looked too wide, that could just be it in lots of cases.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, but does anyone know of a sports game you can play 2v2 in, preferrably 2 local vs 2 local and a mix of local vs online and so on.

Me and my buddy tried playing PES 2008 2 local vs 2 online and it doesn't seem to support more than 1v1 online. Pretty much any sport and any game will do, except baseball, and preferrably not something like "Blitz: The League"...
