Hey Guys,
Just finishing university in Oxford last summer (not the good Oxford mind.. Oxford Brookes FTW a.k.a second best uni in Oxford) I remembered the epic games we would have in halls staying up late drinking and throwing obscenities at each other playing on the gamecube (it was 2003 mind you)
So what are your guys top dorm room games?
Ours was
1. Worms 3D
2. Pro Evo
3. Red Alert...if we could ever get it to work on our network damn windows 95 backwards compatibility
Peace out
David

Definitely some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Lots of extremely late nights.
The number one would have to be Age of Empires II... full 8 player games every night, sometimes several a night. I distinctly remember finishing games at like 1am, then everyone gathering in a room for an hour or two of post-game recap and strategy discussion. Someone would sheepishly suggest another game, and people would dart back to their rooms for a second go.
Some other top contenders were any of the Mario Sports games, lots of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and the obligatory Counter-Strike period.
And lets not forget the great junior year of Madden 05. Me and my two roommates were obsessed with it, the gamecube literally never turned off during the day. We made it through dozens of full seasons. Lets just say that gamecube died not too long afterwards.

How could I forget the best game of them all
MARIO TENNIS
Literally people were bringing ancient N64's to halls (I remember one person who was put to shame as he had the special addition Pikachu model) just to play that game.
It was all about the ring game...that made tennis fun (more fun then Wii sports tennis:eek: )

Our dorms were only connected by outdoor walkways, so I feel I had a very different experience than how most people who live in dorms do, and I really didn't communicate much with my roommates.
However in the anime club we'd occasionally come early or stay late and play games. Super Smash Bros Brawl was pretty fun, but I sucked at it compared to some of the guys who had played it since it came out.
The most fun was the first Naruto game for the Gamecube, not because it was inherently fun, but instead because of Naruto's constant shouting of his annoying catchphrase "Believe It!" irritated the hell out of our club president. This in turn possessed us both to play as Naruto against each other simply to get a rise out of her, but when she threatened to kick us out of the club (and I believed it, no pun intended, whether she had the power or not), we stopped that.
Also playing DS and PSP games like Advance Wars, Animal Crossing and GTA:Liberty City Stories was alot of fun in the club.

I loved Final Fantasy VII. Honestly, I never played it. I could sit and watch for hours while others play. I had a group of guy friends who would compete over who was farther along in the story line. I would go do my homework while they played. I would take the top bunk while people would stream in and out to check on the progress or use Jon's playstation to play.
That game will always have a special place in my heart.

It was years ago when I actually lived in the dorms, but there were like 6 rooms in a row (including mine) where someone was always playing NCAA Football 2003. Just walking down the hall you'd get to hear the Washington State fight song over and over again.

Smash Bros. for Gamecube, Mario Kart Double Dash, Kingdom Hearts 1&2(I'd play and people would watch), Karaoke Revolution(we still play after I graduated), Guitar Hero, and DDR(there was a club on campus and drew crowds in the dorms). We played mainly games known for multiplayer and anyone could kind of jump in and play.

Lo, those many years ago in Ellicott Hall at the University of Maryland...
Console (mostly Sega Genesis)
Mortal Kombat II
NBA Jam ("Is it the shoes?")
NHL '94
Tecmo Super Bowl
Madden '95
PC
SimCity 2000
Doom
Quake
MechWarrior 2
Warcraft 2
Throw in literally thousands of hands of Spades (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spades), and you can see why it took me 5 years to graduate.

AoE2 = best RTS ever. Seems surprisingly common in a few colleges around here (Missouri). Can sometimes have network issues with big games, but boy is it worth it. What civ did you play? I usually played two Conquerors civs, Mayans for raiding (everyone thinks they suck but on a team they're unstoppable) or Spaniards for quick teching and the team trade bonus.
You don't see RTS's like that anymore. OFFENSIVE advantage instead of defensive (trebs outrange everything), great diversity in the civs (team bonuses, etc.), generally perfectly balanced, I could go on forever.

For us it was Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Madden, NBA 2K6, NHL 07. Rock Band is huge now.

Wow. I am alot older than most people on here. Its hard to think of myself as being old.
When i was in college the big games in the dorms were NHL 92-93 and Street Fighter 2.
I also remember fellow dorm mates asking for me to beat out of this world on snes.
Really strange to have a room full of dudes watching you play for hours and have an emotional reaction when you die or something happens to the characters in the plot.
Oh yeah Kid Chameleon was on pause on our tv 24/7

I wish I could find other Rad people at my university, instead of the douches who go here.
Though if one of you goes here, I'm sure you're real cool, and we should hang out and be Rad.

My first love were the Byzantines with their ridiculously overpowered special units. Eventually everyone got so good with their favored nations we started doing all random civ matches.

The Byzantines and Teutons had amazing castles, that's for sure. Japanese were the best for sieging,t heir trebs packed, unpacked, and shot twice as fast, essentially making them 2 trebs each. Mongols were great for massing their unique horse archers. Only problem with random civ was getting something like the Goths which meant you basically had to rush. Persians naturally were the balls if you could finance your army of elephants.

Ahhh....I'm getting all misty-eyed just thinking about this.
The Nintendo 64 was the console of choice in my dorm room. My friends and I had EPIC Perfect Dark battles. We also missed more than a few classes because of WWE No Mercy.
Then during my last semester, a new roommate brought in a Sega Genesis and NBA Jam. Enough said.
To this day, I have no idea how I graduated.

I remember the good old days of AoE2, I'd always play as the Teutons just because I felt the Teutonic Knights were so badass.

A 4 player Rumble is still played to this day with my friends and I. We're more of a Wrestlemania 2000 group though.

If I can remember my gaming history correctly:
We were geeks, and set up a game server inside the dorm, so that everyone that wanted could play with everyone on our floor.
Battlefield 1942. Later moving on to Desert Combat, and the other variations.
Freelancer. It was short lived, but we really enjoyed playing it when we had a fleet going around to hunt.
Call of Duty. Started with local servers, then moving on to larger multiplayer server. We ended up starting up our own hosting company and sold game servers to quite a few peoples.
Planet Side. It was only a few people playing, but we enjoyed it before it started sucking.
As far as console games, we played a LOT of Halo, and we had a group that would get together and play a horror/survival games on a regular basis.
Thats it as far as I can remember

Because I was too poor to buy new games consoles and because I also like retro gaming the games I played with friends who had rooms on the same corridor as me (and also by myself) were:
Total Annihilation (thanks to a crossover cable I thought to bring with me...I thought, "I'll never use this but whatever"...and it came in useful.)
Super Bomberman (on the SNES with a multitap)
Capcom Vs. SNK 2
Quake 2
Bangbead (pong-like arcade game emulated on PC)
Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast in 1st year and then on PC in 3rd year)
Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast)
Soul Reaver (Dreamcast)
Lego Star Wars (whoever thought of combining these 2 fine things is a genius)
Also...Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo is (probably) my favourite game of all time with Lumines coming in a close 2nd (although it might be better...I just don't know). Just posting that because someone mentioned it a couple of pages back.

thank god you posted royterp, cause I was feeling really old.
Tecmo Super Bowl back in my freshman year nearly cost several of us our academic careers. We had epic floor wide sessions that outranked classes for a long time.
On the negative side, one of my best friends had a Genesis and bought Ecco the Dolphin and to this day it is the worst gaming experience I've ever had. Made me sick to my stomach.

I'm at University of Waterloo in Ontario, and it's usually all about the Guitar Hero. NHL 08 is pretty big with people in my res too. Honestly though, people switch games constantly; theres just too much avaliable on DC++(Direct Connect) at ridiculous speeds to stay tied to one game it seems.

No Mercy
I didnt have the chance to play this at university but I did during my exams at school..Sooo much time wasted...even if i had the faulty game that would reset after a while, I didnt care I still played on.
Wish they would bring this to XBLA or Wii Marketplace. No arguing that this had the best wrestling mechanics of any game but then again I did play it recently on my hacked old school xbox...that game has not aged well...then again has any N64 game.

Texas A&M, Walton Hall (non air conditioned dorm, ahh the memories!)
Techmo Bowl FTW!
Probably my fondest memory was when one of the guys on our floor bought a PC and a copy of Myst! Keep in mind this was the early '90s and PC's were a rarity. About eight of us were huddled around this thing for about 30 hours straight playing this game. We each took turns 'driving' while the others barked out orders. I had played many Infocom text adventures on my C64 in High School, but this was my first exposure to a visual adventure game. I could not take my eyes off the screen!
