I have a question I wanted to run past Conner, as he seems to be the Batman guy, although its open to anyone. Are you enjoying Grant Morrison Batman? The reason I ask is that I know you talked about the prose issue, and if Im not mistaken named as a POW, but since then I have heard very little about the book. I noticed a lot of Ifan base seem to have a dislike for it. Personally I got the Batman & son hardback in the post this week and think its one of the best batman runs I have ever read. It has a familiar feeling to it but at the same time I cant really place why cause I have never read a Batman like this before.

Its funny but not to the point of making Batman seem too campy and its also dealing with an important part of the Batman character, Bruce Wayne. I love the Millionaire playboy persona with his good-looking women and his off hand remarks. The whole conversation between Bruce and Alfred were Alfred is trying to get Bruce to lose the growl in his voice. To me was one of the high lights of the run so far.

Morrison is attempting to take all the strange stories from the 50s (Robin dies at Dawn, not to mention more modern stuff like Son of the Demon) and trying to fit them into the modern character, not unlike what Geoff Johns seems to be doing in Action. He even used the penthouse from the old 70s issues.

Now I understand that most people are foaming at the mouth for what Dini is doing in detective, and while I enjoyed what I have read of that comic to me its all about Batman at the moment. This is one of the best writers at the top of his game, with a really good roster of solid artists telling exciting tales. I think what Im trying to say is that while Dinis Batman has a Batmobile Morrisons has a Rocket.

Also if there is anyone, and I know there is I would be interested to hear why you don’t like it.

Paul, you have brought a tear to me eye.

Couldn't agree more with your assessment of Morrison's Batman. I've been on about his run for months now.

It was the "Club Of Heroes" issues that solidified in my mind that Morrison was playing with the Batman concept as few have before.

Brilliant fucking comics.

Hmm. I skipped those issues because they didn't have Andy Kubet's art (I know, I know...but I love Any Kubet!). I gather you are saying they are definitely worth picking up?

Ah, that's a shame.

The Club Of Heroes arc is definitely worth your time. Williams turns in some of his finest work (perhaps ever, though Prometha makes a strong case) and the pacing and plotting of the story is a bit James Bond meets Agatha Christie.

Goddamn, Williams put to shame most comics being published today.

Paul, I want you to know that I am going to flat out steal your; "Dini drives the Batmobile and Morrison drives a rocket" analogy.

I'm sorry but that is too good to leave on the forum floor. =)

It's yours.

I'm just happy to see that other people like this comic as much as me. I thought I missed a meeting about everyone having to hate it for some reason, judging by some of the comments I've read about the place.

I would probably be one of those folk. His "Club of Heroes" arc was where I jumped on Batman book for the first time - EVER. I enjoyed that well enough, but I've been thrown for a complete loop on everything else b/c I have no knowledge of all the Batman lore he's challenging or bringing back. Thankfully, every time I've laid out my utter confusion, Labor's jumped in like my own personal Bat-wikipedia. After that, I respect it a bit more, but just haven't found it easy to jump onto.

It wasn't really my cup of tea but I do like how the Batman books each have their own feel to them. I always hated it when the Batman books or the Superman books were all tied in together. It was such an all or nothing proposition. Now I got a choice and I like that.

The Morrison run is very good, but I think alot of the Batman "Hating" has to do with a very strange way of doing his story telling. His stories seem to start in one issue, run for a few, then kinda give a half conclusion on ly to be picked up later on, I wouldn't be surprised if sometime soon that whole Meeting of the International Batmen thing doesn't lead into another whole thing, and personally, that was a painful 3 months ;)

Disjointed and unending, but I think we are finally starting to get some payoff, alot of those original stories are coming back to bite him (batman not morrison) in the butt for not finishing up with them, and it's been alot of fun so far, so I'm staying in, I'm having a good time :)

I agree with this.

Like that all the Batman books have their on flavor. Some I enjoy more than others, natch.
