what's with super heroes with all the genital clinging spandex. what? they all mountain bikers? Can't they wear a more form fitting cotton outfit? Or at least a blend? I really don't need to see their breasts and/or genitals to understand they are "super."

Maybe we secretly enjoy seeing genitalia, and thats why we read comic books?

I see what you're saying, and I agree, but I'm going to take it somewhere else.

Who decided that superheroes where spandex? Has it ever been said in a comic that a hero was wearing spandex, or is it just generally assumed? I'm sure it has, but I just don't recall seeing a superhero ever discuss spandex. It generally only looks that way based off of otherworldly clothing laws, where no matter what you're wearing underneath all you see is your body form. If Spider-Man decided to start crime fighting in a speedo, you still wouldn't notice the suit he's wearing under it.

say what? If spiderman wore a speedo then every one would see his face.

I've always assumed that in the Earth of comic books (http://en.marveldatabase.com/Earth_616) there is an altered sense of cool and "acceptable", Something had to be different in their world for superheros to develop, so who is to say other things aren't different as well?

In order for grown men and women to run around in their underwear (and for thiefs and robbers and "villians" of all types to play into this and do the same) The people of this fictional earth must hold slightly different values and mindsets as we do. Spandex seems stupid for you and I, but in their world it must seem less so.
