Small Low Power Wireless Driveway Monitor

I was thinking how nice it would be to have a small wireless 900MHZ type transmistter and reciever with maybe an infrared beam or something similar I could put out in my driveway and have a small low powered reciever in my house/office. Something on the 9v battery scale or even a lithium button cell would be nice, where if someone drives into the driveway a small LED and speaker would go off on the reciever showing this activity and announcing a new visitor.:D

This actually sounds like a job for the pre-manufactured product, as the problem with geeking out when it comes to anything that has to stay outside is making a case/design that can withstand weathering without shorting out, etc. You can have fun modding it, though.

As much as I like designing and building things like that, I would just buy it! They are cheep to buy.
