New here there should be an introductions forum!
whats everyones fav show then?

ariastar
02-21-2008, 07:49 PM
Well, I've also mentioned before that there should be a forum for introductions, but it was vetoed in favor of newbs just jumping right in. I still say there should be an intro forum. Hell, even old members could post an intro thread. Intro sections are handy.

My favorite show is DiggNation.

First, that is TRS rather than the forum in general. Second, a single thread for all introductions defeats the purpose when threads around here have the tendency to deviate and result in people ignoring them and missing intros. An Introduction section under the General header would be beneficial as it allows at a quick glance for us oldies to see new members who want to say hi and who maybe have a few questions. Otherwise intro posts are just randomly posted outside the one or two long threads.

I agree aria, dont see why not have one.

First, that is TRS rather than the forum in general.

Agreed, there should be one in 'general', however, TRS is visited by more ppl than any of the others. :)

Second, a single thread for all introductions defeats the purpose when threads around here have the tendency to deviate and result in people ignoring them and missing intros.

Um, no, that's exactly what it's for, so there aren't a tonne of seperate threads of introductions. The result is, that everyone knows the 'introduction thread' and it's full of ppl introducing themselves and being welcomed. And it's never deviated. An entire forum of threada that say, "hi I'm Tim", and "hi, I'm Sally".... wouldn't work at all. Introdcutions don't really create covnersations, I infact, find the introduction thread pointless. The way to introduce yourself is to contribute to something specific. I only look at the 'introduciton' thread to see if there are any girls aged 17.5-19 who have their pic in their avatar or links to their home address.

An Introduction section under the General header would be beneficial as it allows at a quick glance for us oldies to see new members who want to say hi and who maybe have a few questions.

Apart from the location, I don't see the difference between that and how the current thead is used. I've read every single introduction in that thread as it was entered. Just based on what you say, you want one thread. An entire forum wouldn't yield, 'a quick glance'.

Otherwise intro posts are just randomly posted outside the one or two long threads.

Don't really know what that's supposed to mean.

You're right there should be one in general though.

EDIT - You coloring infected mine.

Honestly, we appreciate the questions and noobs wanting to intro themselves, but it makes for useless threads that die off and yes in most cases go way off topic.

An intro thread wud b great for ppl wanting to ask questions and stuff rather than noobs flooding the forums with new threads.

Hey, cut the guy some slack. It's not the most obnoxious thing. Besides, you're still in the double digits yourself.

I don't see any problem with having an Introduce Yourself sticky in the General forum...like Heyseuss said, it works fine in the TRS forum.

02-22-2008, 02:04 AM
Well, let me be the guy to take this back on topic.

Hi everyone!

My screen name is Kronos6948. It's been a screenname I've had since the early 90's from the old AOL chatrooms. I was quite the computer newb back then. I had no idea about IRC chatrooms, so I was stuck with what I knew.

Anyway, as of right now, my favorite show on Rev3 would have to be Internet Superstar, followed closely by Diggnation, then TRS, then would be Systm and Tekzilla.

...part of me remembers them fondly, part of me runs away screaming at the mere mention...

No no no, not a singly sticky. Did whichever mod did that even read this thread so far? Within five pages this thread will turn into another Blackfox or something. Just make a subforum under General where everyone can post their own intro thread. Who checks those stickies on a regular basis to give a shout to the newbs? They get buried.

As far as being a newb goes, look at yourself. You've got 79 posts. Your participation qualifies you as a newb, and isn't enough to speak on behalf of what "we" appreciate.

heyseuss
02-22-2008, 04:08 AM
Did whichever mod did that even read this thread so far?

That's a cool looking sentence but my decoder ring is broken, but I'll work on it.

Within five pages this thread will turn into another Blackfox or something. Just make a subforum under General where everyone can post their own intro thread.

Again, have you seen the 50 pages of intro's at the TRS intro thread? It's been non-stop for a year.

Who checks those stickies on a regular basis to give a shout to the newbs?

Well you know how it works, once you post a greeting, you see the thread continue being used in your subscribed threads. You don't need to go back to it to know it's updated. And to answer your questions specifically, alot of people do, especially Diane and Serenity, constantly re-greeting noobs. I only welcome them if they seem young and naive.

They get buried.

I throw my hands up in the air saying it again, "have you seen the stickied heavily posted, heavily unburied thread?" I think it's what you're looking for, just not conveniently located.

You're dead right on there needing to be a place in general, but nobody would want a forum of 873 individual threads of people stating their name and interests.

Why should people get judged by the amount of posts they have? Just because someone has only 1 post does not mean they are an idiot. Just means they are new here, they may have have a million post in some other forum and just decided to start posting here because that can tell how welcome new members are here and that they are not judged by the amount of posts.

I myself have been into computers since .... ummmm wow I can't remember that far back..... well my first puter was the Timex Sinclair, then TRS80, Apple IIC then PCs from there. Oh and we can see how many old skoolers we have here I was part of THG. LOL long ago.

Hey everyone! :)

I was monitoring the "Live Chat" (http://revision3.com/watch/) this afternoon, and after I said hello to all the guests, someone said, "Hey Mari1ee - who the hell r u?"

I thought it was quite rude of that person, but I realize I hadn't introduced myself so I can't blame 'em.

SoooOooo -- I'm Stephanie, sometimes referred to as Marilee, and I'm on the Web team here at Revision3. I take care of coloring pixels, and hope you are all happy! Or at least most of you. Happy watching.

Seriously - the level of swearing in most of the shows is neglible (Gator and Martin have potty mouths), and used as an expletive, not as a derogatory term. I'd be more frustrated if they started using "gosh", or "willikers".

He was actually quite shy and introverted. He really did pretty much browse the entire store late one sunday night. Most times, when celebs came in my store and did that, they'd buy a stack of dvd's and spend $400. I was surprised when he only had one, and amused when I saw what it was.

As pathetic as it sounds, working in that video store was one of the best experiences of my life.

It's not pathetic to enjoy your job. Anyone who can count a job as the best experiences is pretty lucky.

I've often thought I would enjoy working in a video store or a movie theater. Alas, I can't feed my family doing that. But, then again, Math professoring is pretty fun.

The reason I said 'pathetic', was because I was earning 50 cents above minimum wage. ( 50 cents more, because I was a supervisor/night manager). The only reason I was able to work there, was because I had just come off a year and a half of touring, and had money coming in on the side with no expenditure of my time. I literally got offered the job because I was renting 4 movies a day, and hanging out there longer than nescessary to talk about them. I must have met 200 celebrities in 6 months. Ozzy Osbourne rented Cider House Rules from me on my first day. I had to charge him for it a month later at 2.99/day, and call him a bunch of times to get him to return it.

Please allow me to introduce myself.

I go by David or Djm. Whichever one you call me, I leave to you.

I've been watching Revision3 for a while, like most of you. I finally decided to register for the forums a few days ago while watching Social Brew. I'm a big fan of Irene McGee, so that's what did it.

My favorite show is TRS, while I'll usually make an effort to watch Diggnation, Tekzilla, PopSiren, the not-so-gross episodes of Internet Superstar and Web Drifter, and now Social Brew.

Aside from those things, living in Metro Detroit and fighting the uphill battle against Michigan's economy, I also enjoy pro wrestling, not so much WWE anymore, but the other companies out there.

Thanks for reading.

Montreal for the WIN!

Welcome aboard! I have been to Montreal several times. What a great city, and what a great Night Life they have there!

What site you created/worked on? I am a designer, too, mostly print. but some web/multimedia...

Odd, actually, for all the geeks here, only a few are designers/illustrators/creatives (in the "jargon" way, tons of creativity here in other ways.)

Look for me on the general discussion thread.
We got a GREAT community here, so don't be shy.

I'm Rafa, I'm a network technologies student, I live in Brazil and I love Rev3. I watch diggnation, popsiren, tekzilla, scam school, internet supersatar, pixel perfect, social brew, the gazette, the digg reel and systm. And because of that, it's too hard to chose one as a favorite.

I sign up to the forums a while ago, but just now had the time to really write and read some posts here. So... Yo all! See you guys around.

From the outer reaches of the astral plane and all across the collective universal consciousness, I bid you all a warm salute.

I'm quite excited to be part of this brain child spawned from the mind of Kevin Rose and am expecting great things to come of this site and it's forums.

I sincerely hope that the interaction among users in these forums differ from the countless others out there. By that, I refer to the typical immature back and forth of users who differ in opinion and resort to childish name calling and general abuse. Or, the self perceived right to attack people because they are a "noob" to the site. Personally, that has been reason enough to abandon certain forums I belonged to which were of particular interest to me. We all know that it's far too easy to hide behind a screen name and dish out verbal excrement targeted at others with whom we disagree or simply do not like. Sadly, in many cases, the same can be said about power tripping mods and admins. In theory, the concept of a public forum is an excellent concept allowing the discussion and exchange of ideas...in a perfect world. Obviously, this is not a perfect world and we wind up seeing or unwillingly being a part of the nonsense I mentioned above.

I DO look forward to talking with as many of you as possible and engaging in intelligent verbal intercourse. ;)

Hey everyone, even though I joined way back in 05 this is my first post! (Hey what can I say I am a lurker at heart. :P Although I have not been lurking here for quite some time.) My name is Sam, I live smack dab in the middle of nowhere in a place called Nebraska some of you may have heard about it. I am currently 20 years old. I am also about to start a new job that I am very excited about. It is at a place called EDM (Electronic Design and Manufacturing). :D

I am a still pretty new to this whole tech thing. Didn't get my first computer until about 2001, but I finally built my own last year. Now this is gonna sound weird but I am glad the G4 Tech TV merger happened. Because I didn't get Tech TV until the merger happened, and I would have never found out about any of this stuff. So I consider it a blessing in disguise. I am also I pretty big gamer, but that is a whole different story.

So yeah I have been a long time watcher love everything you guys are doing here. Keep up the awesome work guys!

I don;t have many pictures of fans. It was very crowded on the floor and most were too close for really great photos. And, I couldn't move around. I could only take so many picture of the back of Mindy's head. Most of the best pictures are from the line and before the room filled up. After that I had to shoot over heads and through gaps.

Mostly simple web stuff right now, I work with a guy I'm friends with who lives out in Chicago and he's been getting me web jobs. I'm doing a cd packaging job also.

I primarily do web even though it makes me want to punch people because that's what got me into designing to begin with, but I can do print / promo / corp id stuff, and a little bit of motion graphics.

Oh and video editing.

I'm unemployed though for the most part and life sucks right now. haha.

Suppose this is the best place for me to say that I have been watching Revision3 stuff via my (battered and bruised) Xbox since I softmodded it.

The main purpose of the mod so I could back-up my games and play them from the hdd. Now, well, it's just an awesome way to watch the R3 shows on my TV (XBMC scripts).

I have only registered to say how much I enjoy the shows available. It's a bit sad that I didn't realise that all this great content was available online before then .

As for me? Well, I break stuff mainly. I work in a recording studio for peeps who are 'disadvantaged'.

I'll get lost now, and leave you to your forum.

Hey all,

Man, I was a fan of diggnation right from episode 1. I followed Kevin Rose from when he left AoTS (thank god). Sadly, I kinda stopped following the show from episode 20 and I am glad that the intro music still hasn't changed and the interactions between Kevin and Alex are still the same as how I remembered them from when they first started. Funny coincidence, but the last episode I saw them was I think when they did the show at Dolby and then after about two years, the next episode I watched is when they went back to Dolby again.

Anyway, I thought it was about time to get in touch with the diggnation community. I am 22, male, residing in Vancouver. Working on my Nursing (RN) degree with about a year and a half left.

Hi y'all; just made my first post today. I haven't been on this forum in a long ass time. Just give an idea: "You last visited: 09-30-2006 at 12:22 AM" So yeah, it's been a while.

And about me, I'm 19 years of age, I hail from New York, and I have no idea what I want to with my life, so I'm in college.

Diggnation and Scam School are the only shows I watch.

Woo.

I've been watching Rev3 shows for a while, and it all started with Diggnation a bit over a year ago. I decided to register today for some delayed reason.

My favorite shows are (and one 'were') Diggnation, The Totally Rad Show, Scam School, and Ctrl+Alt+Chicken, though I watch most of them.

umm i would have to say tekzilla, but i also love:
diggnation
the digg reel
scam school
trs
and a couple of others. been watching diggnation since the beginning (although i just joined the forums) but i have to say tekzilla stole first place once it came out (i think because it feels like a throw-back to good old The Screen Savers). Is it just me or does anyone else think revision3 should buy the rights to TSS and bring it back to life online?

Hey there all, this is my 2nd post technically, my first was in diggnation forums

I've joined this forums a while back, just never actually posted anything, so I figured now was a good time to start.

I found Rev3 during the summer (UK BTW) so all of this was a breath of AMAZING fresh air for me, as many of my "out of university" social friends have no idea what I'm talking about half the time, and to find shows which actually focus on what I love to study was great!

So yeah definate noob to this community, already seen my first LIVE diggnation though (yay for FOWA 08) and met kevin and alex, which was great, mananged to speak to them long before diggnation on a chance meet in the expo entrance!

Anyways main shows I follow are systm, tekzilla, diggnation, TRS, and Epic-fu

OK so that was my exhaustive introduction! hopefully I shall make some aquaintances out of you all :-) until then speak soon

First actual post, but I have been a member over here since it was just Diggnation and systm and hopes of thebroken. A little background on me, i have been around this 'thing' since the begining of digg. (ex. i have been a member of digg since nov or dec of '05) Diggnation and Systm are my Favorites, but i do watch just about everything. Im 17 (senior in HS but going to a tech school at the moment.)

Hi. I had originally signed up to the forum several months ago just to participate in a couple of the Scam School threads, but I never really checked out the rest of the forum although I've been watching several of the shows for awhile now. So, I figure it's time to formally say hello to everyone....Hello!

A. I'm sure it has something to do with time zones...
B. My recent posts are always an hour ahead of my time zone (So I am posting at 6:34 EST although it is 5:34). I figure this error is a DST problem.

Yeh, but htink of it this way, you got a buttload of viewing stacked up, whereas us pathetic old guys that hang here all the time, have to wait each week for new content to arrive. You've got, hundreds of hours of new content.

Wow I'm impressed! Someone who actually figured it out! Yeah, Hard Core Logo was an amazing movie, I discovered it many years ago when I was a little punker. I actually met Hugh Dillon (Joe Dick) a few years back when he came to my college for a screening of the film, the character is not a stretch for him at all.

I really hadn't thought about that movie in so long. When I saw your name, something was familiar about it, then it all came rushing back to me. I just saw Keith Callum Rennie, ('Billy' I think, the good looking one) in the L Word. I thought Joe Dick was real, so it's believable that somehow, the man was like his character.

Not really similar, but theres another Canadian mockumentary called FUBAR that I liked. The similarity is, that they are both believable as documentaries. FUBAR actually uses real footage of real ppl though, who think it's a documentary. You know it's real when the cameraman convinces two drunks coming out of a bar to fight, and one of them loses a tooth for real. But then you know it's fake, when the cameraman accidentally kills himself. He apologises at the end tothe ppl that thought they were in a real documentary.

Been a Kevin Rose fan since the Screen Savers, watched TheBroken and Diggnation a bit, stopped checking up on it due to lack of updates/hiatus/whatever.

First i would start by telling you all that , what made me get into Rev3 . I stumbled upon a youtube video Of Rev3 with something relating to : The Best Twitter client . The video was mind blowing ... I would really like to participate in Rev3 by interacting from now.. with the other users in here.

Second By looking at the number of user on Rev3 , i thought of joining the community forum , and have a sneek peek .... and make my first post which would be this hehe...

Well there's a lot to say about my self , which i probably wont be able to explain it in here . I guess you guys would have a number of question which you would like to ask and share with me . Which you all are always welcome to ask me hehe.... no hesitations just meditation LOL... . That would be all form my side now...

Thank you

Hey everybody, I've been using Digg since Kevin introduced it on The Screen Savers like it wasn't his own site. haha. I made a Revision3 account some time ago but now I am finally starting to chat in the forums. haha.

I used to love diggnation, but have been losing interest and getting tired of two guys sitting around talking about jibberish. I really like the quality shows like Tekzilla, especially when Kevin was on there a little while ago. I wish Kevin and Alex would make a real tech show together!

Anyway, I hope to stick around these boards and get to know more people. I'm a Disneyland-aholic who is a major geek. I run a website about the place called Original D. lol. Looking forward to chatting on the forums. :)

So I've been watching Revision 3 stuff for a long time now.

I started when Kevin left G4, and started Systm.
I usually stay pretty quiet on sites like this one, but I figured I'd join the community since I don't have anything better to do.

So... Hi!
I've kind of been off and on for the past year or so. Watching TRS and Diggnation mostly, but after so many episodes, and real life interfering, I kind of lost track, and missed a bunch.

Revision 3 seems to have changed a lot. I just go through reading a thread about how much it sucks now, but really I don't see too much difference, some shows I liked are gone, but I've really gotten into Co-Op, and TRS and Diggnation are still around. I think Rivision3 will keep my interests, as long as they listen to the community, unlike G4 did with taking away the ScreenSavers and replacing it with Attack of the Show.

So that's why I'm here! To be one more voice that'll be unheard! ^-^

I play guitar/piano/learning violin soon. Uhhh I currently play Aion Beta, Heroes of Newerth Beta, WoW (not so much anymore, games gone to sh#*), CS:S, Quake Live, and Travian (browser game).

Anyways, used to watch Kevin and the crew on Screensavers before that channel went to crap (god how I miss call for help/SS's). Didn't really ever keep tabs on what happened since the split but I found this site today and I'm in love all over again. No clue why that channel changed, but I'm glad we're blessed with another golden child.

Hey guys! I'm a 25-year-old male web & graphic designer from Greensboro,NC who recently fell in love with Rev3 (especially Diggnation & Totally Rad Show).

I really like/love the following:
- anything and everything Green Lantern
- Music
I love alot of different kinds of music. In my car, you may hear anything from Bill Withers to Ludacris to Fall Out Boy to Chester French to Incubus.
FYI, Incubus and FOB are my favorite bands!
- Anime (Rurouni Kenshin is the greatest story ever told...I have the last true arc - Volumes 18 through 28 of the manga...awe-inspiring; Gundam 00 & Code Geass are favs and probably two of the best anime series of all-time)
- Video games (x360 owner...gamertag: Shypsi6)

I'm also very interested in podcasting/webshows so not only is Rev3 entertaining...but informative.

Currently this is Eric, my favorite show is Diggnation. I'm glad I finally realized there are forums on this site.

Howdy, another new kid on the block. I've been tooling around on this site for a while and just signed up. I'm going to waste so much time here. Ugh. Looking forward to it!

I think we will be able to relate on many issues such as pale white skins and computers.

Hi everyone, I apologize for not coming here sooner. For the longest time I lurked in G4's Off-Topic, but those days are over. I have had it with mods who abuse their powers and play favorites, and just G4 in general. So I plan to make this my new home to lurk.

And please, call me Fatty. :)

Hello all. I'm Josh. I'm 25 years old and live outside of Seattle. I work in IT, own my own computer business, and put on a weekly tech podcast. It's taken me forever to register here for some reason. I watched way back when it was ZDTV, then TechTV, then G4TechTV but G4 just sucked so i never really got into that. I was happy when Revision3 started coming around. I wish there were more hardcore computer geek show (or at least one) but that's ok, I'll live ;-) My favorite show is probably Tekzilla. I recently dumped my cable TV and just have internet so I'm watching more and more Revision3 on Boxee.
