Here is a 5.1 surround sound amp I designed and built for about $30. This allows the use of any speakers you want. Ask any questions u may have. Oh yes it did etch the pcbs. Designed with eagle cad and laser printer.

So how much power and how little distortion does $30 get you?

22 watts per channel based on the TDA1554, used in car radio amp circuits

At first I thought I wanted more than 22 per channel and figured I was going to use an STK of some model. But I can buy the TDA for $1.89 each so I breadboarded a simple circuit and was pleased at how well it sounded and to volume I could obtain. So I built the project. It only took about a day to build and most of that time was etching the pcbs. That time is not including the time to design the boards in eagle cad. I am going to make some more for friends. Once they heard the sound they were impressed. This time I am going to have a company etch the pcbs and they can do it right from eagle cad. It is really not that expensive to have done and of course the more you have done the more reasonable it is per board. That pic you see above is the prototype....

Is your input analog generated from a PC Mother board? or are you using coax or spdif?

If your using digital what are you using to decode each channel.

(BTW the TDA's (I think from Phillips) are nice)

You may want to check out the LM34XX
I cant rember the Part number but google 'gain clone' and the chip number will pop up.

I wish i had more control over the show than i do so i could push more projects like this through.

You should do a show on it and show up me and Patrick because there is a lot of practical examples loaded into that project and its just well laid out.

Its like i always say, content is more important that quality. Some of my favorite how to videos have been with a web cam and someone off camera pointing.

This actually makes a good point. Open source knowledge. The biggest problem in this world is not that people don't know something but instead that people don't share it. Sometimes because there afraid someone will steal the idea but most of the time its because people are afraid of the quality of the presentation. So I like it when people share what they know.

Side note: Kudos, great project there!

Thanks Dave for the nice comments. I would like to do a video on how its done. But you know how it is, you would like to do a lot on things, but getting the time and just doing it. I have tons of projects. I even had plans to do a lot of modules to that main amp that is why the boards are separate instead of one big board. But ..... time again.

Right now I only have the "prototype". Believe me I would like to send the prints to China and get 1000 of them made for $5 but .... I dunno maybe I should.

Thanks for your interest.
