I live outside of, well, all means of getting high-speed other than Satellite. I am a gamer and usually go to my friends house every so often to play on high-speed, but I want to be able to stay home and play online. Does anyone know if Satellite is good enough to play games or am I just going to be surfing the web faster? Thanks for the help.

Short Answer is no it's would not be the best for online gaming.

Basically Satellite Broadband has a Latency with the transmission.
Some can even be up to 0.5 of a Second delay.

Lol, I have to agree. I had satalite a few years back. The upload is crappy compared to the download, and the latency makes you want to scratch your eyes out!

You're going to have ping times varying from 1 to 3 seconds, if the sky is clear. :) Thats actually worse than playing on 56k while downloading something else. If all you do is surf the internet, e-mail, etc then satellite is just fine. Do not even consider it if you play ANY games at all.

That's shitty at best. Well, i guess i could always just surf the web and download shiz, that would be a step in the right direction, then I could always hope in a few months/years they get some other high-speed out to me. Thanks for reaffirming what I thought all along.

Oh, and satellite upload speeds are HORRIBLE. It is most likely that you will only be able to send small emails out, without attachments =P

Is clearwire (http://www.clearwire.com/) an option in your area?
Cable based broadband not an option?

Satelliite is not going to work for you as anything but a last resort ... many of them rely upon dialup for outbound, and satellite for inbound.

As much as you hate Verizon DSL, you might need to bite the bullet.

Agreed....Check on ClearWire or maybe a cellular carrier. You might have more luck with cellular since they have started rolling out their "unlimited" plans.

-=AE=-I was going to suggest that, but the carriers will drop you if your unlimited is 24x7, and used as a primary internet service.

Also - just like satellite, cellular is no good for gaming. As much as I love my EVDO connection when I am on the road, it is purely my backup connection at home, and not something to be relied up for day to day use, let alone gaiming.

Good to know...didn't know about carriers dropping people, from the consumer's side.
My local state goverment has a contract with Verizon because they support 24x7 internet for their remote users. I assumed this was also passed to the consumer. Shame on Verizon :(
