View Full Version : Cannot Download Rev3 Podcasts in iTunes - Error -3150

I'm sure I might be unique to this issue as I don't see it reference anywhere else in the Revision3 forums, but I have set up iTunes to download the Revision3 podcasts (using the iTunes Podcasts Directory). I was able to download at least one episode of the shows I subscribed to, but now iTunes does not want to download any more.

Whenever I attempt to force a download (using the GET button in the Podcasts playlist), the iTunes download section will eventually display the error "stopped (err = -3150)". For some reason or another, this is only affecting Revision3 shows and not any of the other Podcasts I chose to subscribe too (also added from the iTunes Podcast Directory).

I have tried restarting iTunes and the computer but that did not resolve the issue. I was using iTunes 7.6 and tried updating to 7.6.1 to see if that would resolve the issue: no luck.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, were you able to resolve it? How? Thanks!

Computer Specs and Details:
Mac mini 1.83 GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.5.2, iTunes 7.6.1

Try unsubscribing from the feed and then resubscribing. If you continue to have problems, please PM with the specific feeds you're having problems.

FWIW, according to Apple's site, the error is as follows...
"'-3150' - kOTBadAddressErr - a bad address was specified"

I agree with chuckles. Try unsubscribing and then resubscribing to the feed.

EDIT: May also want to check this link. May also be an issue with an intermittent connection.

Well, it turns out it was an issue with me assigning a Static IP address to the computer. Why this would matter is beyond me. What's WAY beyond me is why this only affected Rev3 podcasts. I could access the Rev3 site without any issues, although it did seem rather slow.

Sadly, this doesn't completely resolve the issue as I'll need to set the computer back to a Static IP soon, so we'll see what happens after iTunes finishes downloading the shows.

My ISP's DNS doesn't recognize podtrac.com by name. Apparently, Rev3 and Leo Laporte use this service to track their podcast stats.

To resolve this, I had to add the following two lines to the "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" file:

69.16.232.36 podtrac.com
69.16.232.36 www.podtrac.com

The problem was solved 18 months ago.

ISP DNS servers can be pretty poor. You are better off setting your DNS servers to the OpenDNS servers (http://www.opendns.com/) - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Level3's DNS servers (4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2) are pretty good too.

On thinking about it, I am going to change my DNS servers a little ... keep the primary set to OpenDNS, set the secondary to a Level3 server. I like to have my DNS servers on different subnets, so having them in different locations should be better still :)

No joke there! My ISP has had DNS problems in the past. I haven't noticed any major problems recently though.

If you have dd-wrt or IPCOP you can go to /etc/hosts and add the IP address and website like:

208.65.153.253 www.youtube.com (don't try this it is an old address)

and then type "killall -HUP dnsmasq"

If you are paranoid of OpenDNS or you just have this problem with one website, its an option to try.

Thank you for the DNS advice! This is invaluable information.

My podtrac solution did the trick for me, my old HDD crashed last week and Rev3+Leo's podcasts began to pile up. I don't recall having to edit the hosts file or changing DNS's in the past but I'm glad it got resolved--can't live w/o Tekzilla, FilmRiot... this is my TV.

I have occasionally not been able to dl Rev3 podcasts off and on, but now I can not dl any Rev3 podcasts (other podcasts are fine). I am trying to dl them via my iPhone 3.1.2 (7D11) and I even tried dl different versions of podcasts I am not subscribed to. Any suggestions? I already reset it with no luck.
