General question of no real use or consequence, but I'm curious. What is the use of a user reputation? Do other people see it? Or is it just so Mods know who to keep an eye on? Perhaps, something I haven't thought of?

We had this chat a while back. No one is actually quite sure... I think I have close to 20 points. We do know that Elites and Mods rep points mean more than average users though.
EDIT: Just looked, I have 29...

I now have 13. I know I had negative for a while, because the only one I had was a bad reputation Crumbles gave me for some completely idiotic reason.
Edit: In an unrelated note, these three posts are the highest concentration of posts made in GD today. Wow has it been slow.

i have a 'Haha' an 'how ignorant' and a 'seriously, just die already'
i NEVER give rep
i once belonged to a forum where you could see every one's rep and i had the most rep points and then everybody hated me (the same people who gave me the rep) and then one of the mods went on a mission to negative rep me (like 10 times a day)
some people do not realize that attention whether 'positive' or 'negative' is still attention
it seems to be a backhanded way to deal with some people's frustrations and i am against it in principle and practice
a forum by definition is public if you have something to say do so in the open

I just left and being person against hello here I am and goodbye topics to attract more attention I just left.*shrug*

i not only left i had the administrator delete my entire account i was not going down in internet history as being part of that type of environment
they had added an XXX and flaming section so i had 'good cause'
the forum later failed and no longer exists but i learned a valuable lesson which is some people just love to be nasty

I gave you positive rep for something I don't remember what it was for though. :D
Most people with the highest rep got it from testing it on each other to see how many points it went up. So I guess most people ignore the rep system unless to give neg rep over being pissed. I would have a higher rep if certain rep counted as positive not neutral for making fun of Paris Hilton when she went jail, I think it may have to do with if ya have 0 post or something.

I actually find the whole "rep" system amusing. Like it really means anything when you get a -1. I honestly don't care what anyone thinks of me. I say whats on my mind because I honestly believe it to be true. I'm not shy about sharing my views, or being non-PC. Hell, if anything, I got out of my way to be non-PC. I'm not here to spray rainbows up anyone's ass. I post to share my honest view on something.
I just checked, and the only -1 I've ever gotten was from comhcinc over the WD NAS thread.

Since I have 2500+ more post than you I won't get points. So I will only get points from people with around the same number or more. So can a member of the crew such as Chuckles or Shane confirm this?

Double spaces (referred to as "french spacing") is considered old fashioned, and in an online environment is largely irrelevant, as browsers render multiple spaces (except &NBSP; tags) as a single space. [ <=See? That was ten spaces betweeen period and left square bracket.]
For printed text, it can help legibility for monospaced characters, but does little except *ahem* take up space *cough* (no pun intended, OK just a little) with proportional fonts.

Arrrgggh!!
I keep going back to my User CP page and looking all over for ANYTHING that says Rep, and I got nothing.
Either you have to get at least one good or bad rep point to get started, a setting is missing on my page, or I haven't posted enough to get a rep.
I am purposefully omitting the "you're an idiot" option.

Aha!!!
I get it now!
For those of you who were just as clueless as I was, look at each member's posts. You'll see a little "R" in a box next to the "Report" box. If you click on it, you can give "reputation" (positive or negative) to the person who's "R" you clicked on.
If you have reputation, you'll see it in your user CP. If not, then you won't see it at all. (Murphy1d, check your user CP now. There should be reputation there.)
I'm going back through this thread and giving rep to the deserving....;)

Can I have some love, I mean, rep? I just got hit with a wave of sad. Bad week. Little things like this validate me when I'm down and blue. Oh, the monthly downside to being a girl. But you know what's sweet? Cody giving me his hand and telling me to squeeze it if I'm hurting too much. That's just hella sweet.

You've had a bad week? Wanna trade lives for a bit? Lol.
+rep to you.
EDIT: Pfft! It won't let me give anymore rep to you right now. :(

Actually the ONLY reason I wouldn't is because I have Cody. Were it not for him, I'd trade in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

Oh god, I'd love to go to Comic-Con. There's the ever-present problem of money though.
