So I just got out of watching borat. I can't believe you people thought that movie was that good. Sure it was pretty funny at times, I laughed my ****ing ass off, but that doesn't make it the funniest movie of all time. Anybody who knows anything could tell that almost 90% of that movie was completely set up and really do you think that they were able to get a camera behind the counter of lot of those stores without anybody noticing.

Spoilers

If any of you people think that the scene where they abduct Pamela Anderson is real, you must have a serious head wound caused by your mother beating you with a lead pipe, taken for new dads fake leg. If she was really abducted you would have heard news of it. Everywhere people woul have been talking about it and it would have been in most of the really lame ass magazines that my wife reads.

End of spoilers

Overall I give the movie an eight out of 10 because it did make me laugh quite a few times but funniest movie of all time I don't think so. I don't know if it's because John and Dan hyped up the movie so much. But I just didn't see what everybody was talking about, but then again, that's me. Invader Zim.

Oh by the way, I haven't touched a keyboard whole time. I bought this new program Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 is so crazy I had a headset with it only cost me $100. And now all I have to do is talk and appears in the screen pretty ****ing sick.

I really know what else to say about the movie until all of you out there seen it but I don't know. I love the parts were to make fun of Jews.

Okay, I'm going to take the time and effort to end this thread right now because I think we all know our beloved Sandstone/Invader Zim's credibility when it comes to reviewing movies.....it can all be summed up in one simple word....

SPOILERS

I've got to agree with Zim, that the Pamela Andersen scene was obviously staged. Because if it wasn't, and he tried to yank that blanket over her head, he would have, in real life, received the beatdown of his life. He would have been bloodied to a pulp.

The movie was a sort of pseudo-documentary, parts of it were definitely staged. I mean, the friggin' bear. No one would ever sell that idiot a bear, and at no time would a hotel allow a bear to swim in the pool.

END SPOILERS

Ultimately, I really enjoyed the movie. It was worth the $9 just for 'the scene', and I think you all know what I'm talking about. I can't remember the last time I've laughed that hard.

It was sort of a near-classic comedy. It does not rank up there with South Park and Rushmore, my two favorite contemporary comedies, but it's right up there. I actually MUCH prefer the character of Ali G over Borat (Borat might be least favorite, I almost like the gay character more) but it's still a very good movie. I love any exposure of extreme redneck-ness.

(And not to be a self-promotional whore, but on my next podcast of The Unimpressed Corps... which should be out sometime late next Tuesday... I'll be reviewing the Borat movie. And if you'd like to head to my blog, at www.unimpressedcorps.com, I've set up a post you can leave comments on, and I'm going to incorporate other people's reviews into the show. Beware: it's a political show, with a liberal viewpoint, so if that turns you off stay away! OK, self-promotional whore-ity over.)

ok, anyone who DOESN'T think that any of these things are staged is a moron. Seriously. Not liking it b/c "omg it's so obviously fake" is severely misguided. The WHOLE film is a narrative with obvious plot and arc. The interviews are probably the only completely semi-real things, and from there on out, the hidden camera stuff too. Otherwise, of COURSE the pamela thing was fake, but that does not cut it down in hilarity at ALL. It's like saying "spinal tap was totallllly fake!". The only difference is that this one had a few real moments, which i think makes it even better. i guess this has turned into the borat thread...

I just saw it. Pretty damn funny. I saw too many interviews and trailers before hand though so I was sort of sick of him going in. And it was still pretty funny. ****ing rednecks man, what the hell?? Oh and the running of the _____ was the funniest damn thing I've ever seen. I wonder if dannyT knows anything about that....?

Funniest part of Borat the movie was when Borat and Almeza (i can't remember the name correctly) were wrestling naked together. Hilarious! Oh yeah what was with the picture of the Guy at the end of the movie?

The first Jackass, but I will add an * in front of it because it wasn't a plotted, scripted movie, so it could be argued that it wasn't a movie at all, just a feature-length version of the show.

And, I don't know why Sandstone thought anybody on these forums thought the whole movie was real. We are not middle-America.

I just got home from watching Borat. Funnily enough it should be called
Boring At (the movies) because it was pretty much not funny. I guess I
just don't understand the humor of Borat. The suspension of disbelief that
these "people" don't know it's a put on is simply incredible. The "movie" was
a waste of time and money. Well, they got my five bucks, so I guess I
was bamboozled. He wins, I lose.

(Okay, I did laugh one time during the whole hour and a half, when Al Bundy appeared on screen. Go Bundy!)

wait...so what didn't you like about it? It was amazing and easily the most hilarious movie this year. Easily.

Borat plays on stereotypes of Arabs from a Jewish prespective and in turn ends up making the stereotypical view of and by Arabs towards and by the rest of the world a joke by his hyperbolic racism, masogyny, and ignorance towards the industrialized world.*spoilers*(the running of the jew, a "jewess" laying a jew egg, the extremely racist hicks, the black people who when you went into that neighborhood were first a possible threat but ended up being the friendliest people in the film, throwing money at the cockroaches, etc.)

Borat is satire at its best and this movie was chock full of not only that, but all kinds of low-brow humor. I'm actually pretty surprised you didn't like it, b/c i thought this movie had something for EVERYONE. the fight scene was slapstick to a new level and was absolutely hilarious.

Borat is the funniest of all time.

Name one film funnier, or that you laughed more or harder at.

Super Troopers
Grandma's Boy
Monty Python (Grail and Meaning of life)
Steel Magnolias (Yes, even this is funnier!)

Point is: There are ALL KINDS of funnier movies out there than Borat!!

And I was really disappointed. I wanted it to be funny. I really, really, did! I think the problem for me was that I like Borat in small portions. I've watched 3 minute clips that are hilarious, but movie length Borat? No. Plus the advertising pretty much saturated me as well.

I seen it yesterday, it was good.

The best bit for me, bit of a spoiler, was the bit after he seen the Pamela DVD and he throws the bag with the chickhen on the floor. I totally forgot the chickhen was in they and the noise of it cracked me up. The worst part was the horse falling over at the rodeo it was really cheesy.

OfcGrl - the best Monty Python film was Life of Brian, it was miles better than Meaning of Life and better than Grail.

Exactly, there were definitley some funny parts in there, but I felt like I'd seen them all already. I'm sure I'll get ripped for it, but I don't believe this was the funniest film of the year, that honor goes to Jackass 2.

Some of the reactions from people in NYC were definitely scripted just to follow a stereotype. There are the occasional crazies who won't put up with anything, but most people react like anyone else would. They ignore it, because we see shit like that every day.

ok, i just saw borat again and i can TOTALLY see why a good number of people are not liking it and finding it boring......and you can blame it on fox for ruining it for you. Like I've been saying since the first teaser came out, the promotion has been TERRIBLE because it's not really focusing on the movie the right way. Sure it's been EVERYWHEre but it makes you look at the movie in a certain way and IN THAT WAy the content is just not there for the most part. Borat as a character is funny, but not THAT funny...the real content is seeing it as Cohen parading around as him, all the time, and any real "story" the movie has is just used as linking material. This "separation" has not been promoted at all as opposed to the character which when taken as granted is disappointing. The funny thing is, that it seems like this movie is the exact opposite of nacho libre in every way (even documentary vs theater and film vs video), which i HATED at first but now like ok. This may all deserve it's own cheat world episode now that i think of it.

Also i threw out that second post because I KNEW people were gonna bring up

1. super troopers (i tried to watch it 5 times but never even got halfway)
2. monty python (yup, exactly what i thought somebody'd say, i definitely don't agree though i like some of it)
3. jackass (i liked the first shopping carts and fat suit, but after that "whatever", though i know certain people are crazy of it, and the guys themselves seem to be having the best time)

anyway obviously a lot of it has to do with what a certain person thinks is funny...but there hasn't been a movie in a long time where SO MANY mainstream people call it or even bring up the question of whether or not a certain film is the funniest one ever.

jackass does count as a movie i think btw, i think any image that moves or changes qualifies.

that is a quintessential change of heart. that's awesome before speech recognition software, I never would have said quintessential, cus can't spell that shit.

All joking aside, I can't say shit worth a damn and Vijay. You put in to paragraph exactly what I thought about that movie. They played it off as if this was all supposed to be on the spot ad lib., if they would have advertised it more of a mix and not try to make it look like on the spot every second. I probably wouldn't have gone into the movie expecting one thing and being given another.

I have memories of the fat dudes hairy asshole smushed on the skinny dudes face. That IS funny. I guess BrianGilmore was correct in assessing that I wasn't in the mood for Borat and that's why I found it boring.
On that note, I find it quite shocking that people don't find Nacho Libre fun and/or funny. It is a humorous story that was told quite well. It's not often that luchador movies are mainstream in America the way they were in Mexico in the 60s and 70s. When is this out in the UK. It seems ages ago that it was advertised and the trailers shown, the Dirty Sanchez movie came out here in the UK the same time Jackass 2 did in the US did that cause the delay.

Back on topic, thinking about borat again 32 hours after seeing it, I'm starting to go off it, apart from "The Scene" and the chicken in the bag thing I mentioned in a previous post nothing still stands out as being great or memorable, might have to see it again.
