I’m in the market to buy a laptop and was wondering what you guys have for one. What are the specs, how do you like the design of the laptop, etc.

Thanks

I have the last model of Dell consumer, the Dell Inspiron 6000. it has a pentium mobile 1.6 which rates about a 3 Ghz on the regular Pentium scale. I have a gig of ram with an Intel 915 chipset.
I think you need to figure out what you intend to do with it before you guy and what is important to you. If you're not going to game on it then your laptop will become drastically cheaper. If you need something that's durable and you go with a military rated tough book then your price goes drastically up. It's all in what you need.

I have a regular MacBook that I'm really happy about. Dell Vostros are supposed to be awesome too.

I'm actually considering the same thing.

What kind of specs do you need to do some video editing on your computer? Either Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

I'm not really sure what you're looking for or if you a mac user like a lot of the people posting here, but for gaming (and everything else), I use the Dell XPS M1710. I think they changed the model number now and kind of updated it a little, but its an amazing gaming machine. I have never had any trouble running any games on the highest settings with it besides crysis, which runs very well with some tweaked settings between high and medium at 1920x1200. It's a great machine, very powerful. Awesome for music and video editing as well.

It just costs a pretty penny, but looks impressive and does everything you'd ever need.

I recently bought a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium. Loved the hardware (Sony makes the best PC notebooks imho) but hated Vista... just a huge pain in the ass OS.

I took the Vaio back and ended up buying a MacBook instead. I have never owned an Apple in my life, but I am completely loving it so far.

well first, mac or pc?

if its mac its a fairly easy choice - if its your main computer id get the macbook pro (what i have). if this is just something to take along and you wont be doing work on it, go with the MB. (im not really considering the Air a choice)

i love my MBP and i know plenty of people who love their MB's so either way you cant go wrong.

Make sure it has AT LEAST 1gig of ram. 2GB preferably. Core 2 Duo processor and the biggest hard drive you can get.

If you are wanting to game you should pick up the macbook pro. On the regular macbook you are just using an on board graphics card which is pretty underpowered for gaming. Macbook pro for gaming and video editing, otherwise the regular macbook is just fine.

FYI, don't buy Apple's memory upgrades. They wanted $600 for 2 of their apple 2 gig dims. I bought 4 gigs worth of corsair ram from buy.com for $60 and installed it myself, which could not be any easier. If you can plug in a Nintendo cartridge you can upgrade the ram yourself. If you are wanting to run XP or Vista in Parallels or Fusion you definitely will need more than 1 gig. Leopard really needs all 1 gig for itself. When I tried running XP in Parallels before upgrading, my system grinded to a halt.

Cool site!

I learned about it from Martin Sargent, back on the Screen Savers. I think it was the website or the tip of the day or something like that.
