So I was looking at all the videos of the "TripleHead2Go" from matrox... and the new digital version has "Bezel Managment".

I figure, why not just get rid of the bezel?

So what I want to try, is to take 2 15" monitors (because they're cheap and old and I don't care if they break), and take the actual LCD out of the bezel, mount them side by side so they line up perfectly, and try to see if I can get it to work.

Only thing is, i've never taken an LCD apart before, are there dangers involved like old CRTs? Is there someone who has tried and should stop me before I destroy these monitors?

Seriously, I want to try to make a 3 screen version, but i'm not sure exactly how well that'll turn out ... Any tips, suggestions?

wow 50 views now, no replies.

Not even "Nope can't be done."

I'll have to try it I guess. I'll photograph it as I go then, post it somewhere.

It sounds plausible, I heard Alienware is developing a triple seemless screen.
I've always thought of buying three projectors with the TripleHead2Go and setting up a nice 15' widescreen. :D

It can be done, and it sounds like a fun idea...

Just be super careful that when you remove the panel not to twist or bind it......
The bezels are more or less just there to make the whole thing structurally sound.

One thing I can think of is most LCD's have an internal metal bezel that holds the multiple layers together. So it wont be glass to glass but it will be closer than two with full casing side by side...

With some diligent machine work you can make this work, and put a complete new bezel around multiple monitors... Just depends on how much Fab you are into.

Just in case you might want to insulate between the panels where they meet up just in case the inverter for the cathodes come in contact you wont lose both displays.

LOL or maybe I can just wait for Alienware's monitor huh...

It sounds like if you're not careful it just won't work. I opened one of the monitors up, and the back of it frightened me. The reflective thing for the light is pretty flimsy... I'm not sure if you can put them together without a bezel at all.

It needs to have something else, which would almost defeat the purpose :(
