I have to say, I feel really disappointed, i would give it a 2-3/5 I am really interested to see what the TRS guys think. I think I just went into it expecting a different movie than I saw.

How can you possibly feel 'disappointed'?

Are you telling me you expected more than what the trailer promised, which was the patented contrived anachronistic garbage that Emmerich is noted for?

I didn't see this movie simply because the trailer was the EXACT definition of generic. I imagine the movie was the same.

My comment was about perception. If I ever expect more of a Roland Emmerich movie than what I stated then I deserve to be 'disappointed'.

If I'm pleasently surprised then that's another thread entirely.

Not to mention the wonderful DAY AFTER TOMORROW. The movie where Dennis Quaid walks from Washington to New York in about two days.

And Jake Gyllenhall fights CGI wolves.

Well I'm not a movie buff so I don't really follow directors, all I know was the trailer made me think it would be something it wasn't. I was expecting some historical accuracy. Just a smidgen.

The first trailer I saw which was more of a teaser than anything (didn't show anyone speak English) made it look like a freaking epic culmination of all that was good from Apocalypto and Piers Anthony's Geodyssey series. I later saw the second trailer which was like "first hero" and all faux-epic english-speaking garbage.

I, however, greatly enjoyed watching Day after Tomorrow.

Also where you can apparently outrun subzero weather. That entire movie was bullshit (not just the global warming stuff but plot, character, effects, etc.). The only "good" movie that Emmerich has done is Independence Day. It's like a delicious slab of gouda.

He did Independence Day. Oh god that's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Yeah, apparently I missed the second trailer.

I was just about to bring that up too.

I usually don't listen to the ratings from there too much, but just keep the general rule of thumb that if a movie is under about 45%, I should probably skip it.

Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes completely shape my expectations of a movie. I've found that my reactions to movies tend to be one par with the percentages they get on those sites.

If a movie is rotton on RT, its usually a good indicator that it stinks, IMO.

Hmm... haven't seen it, nor the trailers.

It'd be kinda sad if it had nothing to do with history, something like tossing in dinosaurs and mammoths and humans together, then have a spaceship come and carry them away while hording off the deathstar.

That'd be a good movie tho... hmmm (writes script).

The simple way I summed the film was "300, but no blood, no boobies, he doesn't die, but gets the girl at the end.".

So I personally think it was an epic movie. I would definitely watch it on a rainy day with nothing else to do.

this movie was mind numbingly bad. It was just boring, the action scenes were not that great the writing was terrible and somehow by magic when he walks over the mountains he finds himself in a) africa b) in charge of an army with one guy who somehow speaks every single language of every tribe and person they come into contact with and c) in egypt where they are building pyramids with mammoths....(so a magical 2,000 BC) those are some mighty fine time/dimension warping mountains.

im all for willing suspension of disbelief. i loved stargate, i also love kaiju movies. but seriously? i just couldnt do it. the characters were boring cliches and had about 10 lines each. you need to make me care about characters for me to willingly stop my brain from going okay that was just retarded. and that was what this movie was.

Just got back from seeing and I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars. It's completely average in every possible way. The thing that kind of annoys me is that the trailers head fake you into thinking there's gonna be tons of creatures but there's only like 3 or 4 different kinds of animals and they each have their own little 5-10 minute sequence. The rest is a bunch of rejected Battlefield Earth cast members (When did dreadlocks make you ancient?) joining up with an amalgam of every African tribe ever to defeat the Egyptians led by some creepy old white guy who talks like Voldermort and likes full body gowns. The thing that really brings this movie down is the horribly retarded Deus Ex Machina at the end. To sum up this movie wants to be 300 but is more like that movie Pathfinder with Karl Urban.

Oh god, Pathfinder. I didn't enjoy anything but the last sequence on the mountainside.

Exactly. Every commercial and trailer I've seen of this movie looks like its just some cave man running around for no reason.

I almost saw 10000 today, but I decided not to. Went to Spiderwick Chronicles instead.

If I was half as old I probably would have enjoyed it.

Wow saw this movie the other day. The only thing I liked was the mammoth hunting and the scenery that is all. which was the first 20 min of the movie. From there on it was drug out and the ending has sub par, very bad action scenes. I saw the directors name and i couldn't figure it out why it was familiar. Oh it was the guy that directed Godzilla with mathew brodrick.

It was average i'd give it a 4 out of 10 and is only a rent.
