What does everyone think of these two movies?

Personally, I really liked them.

The sensless gore and comicly bad writing really makes these movies a must watch for me. And the old timey look to the films really establishes the utter rediculousness to the movies.

Now from most reviews I see the movies didnt receive much higher than 2 stars. I would disagree with them but thats just me. These films aren't a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but they're deffinately a fun watch.

I loved them both, but they were definitely better in their joined, shortened forms in the theater with a crowd than they are in their uncut, at home by yourself versions.

They actually got pretty good reviews. The metacritic average is a 77. Not bad for such seedy films.

The first one was great, but the second one sucked major balls.

The best parts of the second one don't happen until almost an hour in, and until then it's a real crap-fest. There's lots of talking with very little meaning or motivation.

I heard that it was better in theatres as Grindhouse than on DVD as Death Proof and Planet Terror because of the fake trailers and the atmosphere and whatnot.

I finally got around to watching them recently. My only issue was with Death Proof...it should've been cut into two smaller films than one long one. Then again, isn't that what they guys said in an earlier episode?

Plane Terror Was definitely an all around better movie. There was too much talking and filler in Death Proof, but the ending was AMAZING IMO.

Of course I liked Planet Terror a whole lot more. But the whole experience of seeing both movies together was what made me enjoy Grindhouse so much. I had a great time at the theater, and that is rare for me.

For me, both were just extremely fun to watch. Would you believe that I've heard people I know comment that they were "too much" or "over did it" or they "tried too hard". My reply would be, exactly... that's the point.

They were made to be fun. With both movies, it's one of those things where if you have to ask what was the point... then you completely missed it... so just move on.

I've heard Death proof described as boring. I don't really think it's worth analyzing too much but here goes... I think some people tricked themselves into trying to focus on the characters too much because that was what was right in front of them. For me, it was very suspenseful BUT I didn't focus on the characters so much and I didn't find them to be terribly interesting either. The suspense wasn't something that was in front of me... instead, for me, the suspense that built throughout Death proof was derived from the perspective and atypical style. I think some people were left grasping because it wasn't the typical killer kills people style... and wound up trying to latch on to characters... and you've missed the point by now if your mind headed down that path.

Also, one last comment. It seems the natural almost instinctive thing to do is immediately compare the two... yeah, fair game... I did it too right afterwards so whatever but personally I don't think it's worth wasting too much time comparing the two.

I completely agree with you Tipton. The two films are extremely different that it makes it hard to compare them. They have the same types of special effects and all, but Planet Terror is more action based while Death proof builds character story then has two climaxes.

I didn't see them in theaters and I didn't watch the combination of both movies. I watched each separate movie and loved em both.

As a whole seeing it in theaters was amazing.

Planet Terror I love even by itself.

Death Proof has an okay beginning, TERRIBLE middle, and awesome ending.

And lastly the rumors that a Machete movie is going to be made need to become trumors.
