ReadyMade's Jen Trolio shows Jessica how to make comic book stationary from scratch! Sarah gets organized online and Dr. Kiki teaches you how to make fire with sound waves. Neha Tiwari investigates what turned nerd into the cool kid at WonderCon and Heather Frank teaches you the virtues of the sport of archery.

I'm still downloading this ep, but it sounds pretty cool.
Neha, Heather, and Jessica? This sounds like some the stuff that would've been in Tekzilla before everyone started bitching about it. Though, with that in mind, maybe they'll show what happened to Neha's PC.
But, hey, an all-female cast! That's enought to hold my attention for at least... two or three episodes.

In total agreement with everyone so far. It's awesome to see Sarah back in front of the camera again. It's also great to see Jessica back to doing something more substantial than Digg Reel. Dr. Kiki's segment was awesome. It's great to see some real science being explained on these shows. My only complaint was Dr. Kiki's sibilant S. It made it painful to hear her talk. That, though, can be worked through.
I'm loving the DIY segments, and the near random approach that segment segues take. The potpourri style of the show has me yearning to see what's next.
I'm looking forward to future episodes.
Hot female nerd cast FTW!

I was pleasantly surprised by the show...
This is one of the best setups for a show, lets just hope the content stays on par and doesn't get dumbed down....
hahaha had me laughing!
"'wow I hit the target!'....'maybe you shouldn't be so close this time'"
Excellent work, everyone. We really needed an open format show like this. It looks hard to make though... Once a week? Amazing.

Just a quick note...I'm in the middle of watching it now. There's some sound issues on the flash version at least...
During the science portion (rubens tube portion), the sound is actually slightly ahead of the picture, and the EQ needs to be rolled off @ 5000Hz and above...the high end just during that portion so far is way above level...
Good show so far though!
I prefer to see Sarah and Jessica in this type of setting. It seems more natural for them...
And Jessica, if you're reading this...KEEP CHEWING GUM!! Congrats on not smoking.

I think this show is going to be really good. I enjoyed it a lot. I do think that a lot of the shows tend to run over other shows feet, but I think in the long run this show will be a good replacement for me canning my tekzilla and digg reel RSS feeds.

like rev 3 is expanding out to other avenues, venues, some of it seemed like HGTV, to tell you the truth i had no idea this show was coming. since i know these gals i'll watch for awhile and see what happens.
some things, that i noticed right away, the set, it looked like a classroom with small desks, okay is this a science program?, no a garden show?, no, history show?, no, ummm okay.

See, I said that Jessica was wasting her talents on Digg Reel. Now, I hope this will remain Jessica's main gig and the reel becomes her side project.
Also, I'm waiting for Jessica and Sarah to get over the semi-scripted banter and start talking like they normally would. The success of Dignation and Tekzilla is we truly believe they are discussing and not just "setting up the next segment."
Less Katie Couric, more Ron Burgundy. But great job overall.

I really enjoyed this show, especially the format. I was expecting more of the segment based ideas to eventually pop up on Tekzilla, but to have a show that is a little bit lighter on the tech side I think, allows other shows to do more intense topics. I'm also looking forward to where they will take this because it shows potential to do things other shows in the past could not.
Keep up the good work

... i cringe at the cutting up of comic books though.
Why? The big two has print so many issues in the last two decades that scarcity will never be an issue and thus with the exception of a few popularity spikes the value of those comics will be nil.
So in short I'm all for cutting up comics, as long as they aren't mine. ;)

I will definitely be watching the show every week. I learned about a bunch of cool sites I has never heard of before.
The overall quality of the show was like anything, if not better, than what you would see on TV... you could toss this show on any channel right now and nobody would know it was made for an Internet TV network!

I totally enjoyed the first show. Couple of observations.
1. Too many little graphics...
2. It sometimes felt like Sarah was just reading and not looking in the camera. It might of been shot to close to her face or something.,
3. I love the mix of tech and humor.
4. It was a little toooo girly for my taste.. having a male or two would give it a little bit of balance... And make me feel like I'm not watching "Barbie's tech world". If my wife ever catches me watching this she will divorce me for being a girl!!!!
I defiantly give it a 8 out of 10. And I am a big Lane fan. So I'm very happy that she will be back in our life!!!!

I'm REALLY glad you guys like this. The team has been working really hard on this for MONTHS.
to answer a few questions, yeah, we know Dr. Sanford was sibilant on that segment. The segment actually came from the FIRST pilot (we went through a bunch until we got the formula right), and it was so good we saved it for the first episode. We recorded that back when the studio was really new, and our audio issues were really enormous. the next one will be better, and apparently includes magnets.
As for the next popsiren, you'll see it on Thursday. This thursday. 3 days from now.
On the "can you really do this every week" side, this episode pushed 40 minutes. Expect future episodes to run 20-30 minutes. So yeah, a little less and we can definitely do it.
How did this show come about? It was interesting, when we teamed Patrick up with Jessica on Tekzilla (with Heather producing), it seemed like a natural. But a few shows in, creative tension surfaced -- as it always does. I was racking my brain trying to figure out WTF, when I had a long conversation with Jessica at a MySpace party during Web 2.0.
I came out of that realizing that Tekzilla was really two shows trying to be one.
Thus Roger, Tekzilla, Patrick and the search for the perfect co-host.
And Heather, Jessica -- and ultimately Sarah, Neha and Dr. Sanford evolved into popSiren.
That brings me back to science. I've been a HUGE fan of the good Dr. since I first saw Food Science. And when she came in to meet the team, producer Heather and Kirsten just clicked. It seemed obvious -- and I'm so glad you guys liked it as much as I did.
Enjoy, and keep the comments coming. We'll all be working overtime to make this show the huge hit you guys think it can be!

Hey Jim, just a thought here related to this comment. First of all, congrats to Blackbird for taking responsibility for what his kid watches! Rev3 has some great shows that will be a big help in raising a tech-science-culture savvy child. Yet, some of the people at Rev3 are PG-13 and some are definitely rated R. Should there be consideration for a rating system just as a CYA?
I'm sure my nieces and nephews can handle a few bad words occasionally. But if they caught the occasional IS I think I would be the one blushing when I had to explain a few references (haters can back off now, I know kids are growing up faster than we think).

Just wanted to say a massive well done for this show. Its was great from start to finish.
I can see why you split it from Tekzilla now. I'm a big fan of Tekzilla but it can get quite in depth and heavy whereas this is a nice light tech show. I loved how some of the segments were just really random (Like the ACB :P) but it worked perfectly in the show.
And finally I can watch a show with Jessica in it would feeling like poking my outs out with a sharp kitchen knife (Yes, thats the Digg Reel alright).
Well done on the amazing show! I'm looking forward to the next one :D

After watching it, here's a few things that I can think of that I liked and didn't like...
Like
1) The animated segment intros. They looked good.
2) Both hosts seemed to know what they were doing, there was only once where it really hit me that they were reading stuff off the teleprompter (and yes, I know they weren't reading the whole time)
3) The girls for the most part were grear (see dislike #5), and Neha was probably the best IMO. She needs more air time.
Dislike
1) Some of the background music. Like at the beginning after the intro, it was mildly
distracting. Or towards the end where Jessica was doing the Netflix stuff.
2) Web sites. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like everything Sarah and Jessica do they ALWAYS have a "website of the week" segment. I actually do kind of like these segments, but was it just me or did EVERYTHING Sarah did start with "This website ..." and most of what Jessica did was this. It was overkill.
3) Telling the audience that you are doing something because "popsiren is all about ..." and I don't mean this in a way to introduce the show, I mean this as the way it was used to try and introduce segments or random things. This would make sense if the show was established, but you are on your first episode.
4) DIY. My main complaint here is that there was 1 segment, but somehow we get told that popsiren is all about it. Also, since when does Stationary = greeting cards?!!!
5) I won't list specifics, but randomly through the show Sarah or Jessica would say something that just made me go "huh?" because it was either stupid or completely from far left field.

Why? Sarah and Jessica were on the tale end of the TechTV era. It's kind of like people saying seeing Kevin and Alex together again reminds them of the awesomeness of TSS... when the awesome days of TSS was with Pat and Leo (Yes, I know it was originally hosted with Leo and Kate). Does no one remember Cat and Megan? Sorry to kind of rant, but I hate seeing people say "I remember TechTV ..." only to have them remember it as it was right before the merger.

Fair enough Sarah. I really hate people I think are posers, and I always hate it whenever someone mentions the "good old days of TSS" and mention you, Kevin, Alex, Morgan, etc... but somehow forget to mention Pat or Leo. In any case, it really shouldn't matter now, as TechTV is dead.
Even though I did post a list of complaints, I really am digging popsiren. There's just something about it (and it's not just that it's all you girls) that makes it seem more than just a normal geek news/DIY show.

I watched this episode a while back but only now found the need for Instapaper and THANK YOU, Sarah! It's such a fantastic service. It's perfect for those articles that I want to read at some point but not right now and yet I don't want to bookmark them to ma.gnolia or google bookmarks so this is the perfect solution. Good stuff!
