Good tip, but IE does the same thing as far as control-Enter inserting the http and .com. It doesn't do the .org and .net shortcuts, but those aren't really used that frequentaly anyway.

Too bad the show notes don't list the shortcuts. Patrick, you talk fast and the I can't rewind any revision 3 video (tekzilla, diggnation, digg reel) without restarting from the begining. After three times through I only have an impression of which keys to use.

I forgot to mention my name when I submitted it lol. Here is the info.

alt+d to jump to address bar (also for IE)

These shortcuts will complete the url with http://www. and .com around what you type. And automatically visit it.

ctrl+enter = http://www.[whatyoutyped].com (also for IE)
shirt+enter = http://www.[whatyoutyped].net
ctrl+shift+enter = http://www.[whatyoutyped].org

Add an alt at the same time to these combinations and it will open the site in a new tab. Alt can be used by itself to open and submit whatever you type in a new tab as well.

The ctrl enter currently doesn't work on my PC for IE, I did use it in the past on another machine. There is some information on changing/adding the functionality for IE with a registry hack but I can't find the site right now.

better yet ... don't type or hit anything other than enter.

seriously, firefox will figure out that "newegg" means www.newegg.com, of course all it's doing is googling it and deciding to take you there, but it works great 90% of the time and the other times it takes you to google

Wow, does anyone really consider that a "shortcut"? Is it really that difficult to add the extra bits? A better shortcut would be to just type the website name into your web browsers search bar and click from the link.

It has two advantages;
1. No worries about .com, .net, .org, .whatever
2. You are much less likely to have to worry about domain misspellings and thus ending up in a link farm or a phishing site.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe that's DNS specific. I know that OpenDNS is smart like that, but others may just barf.

Yea, honestly I don't use these shortcuts either. I use a keyword on my bookmarks of frequent sites so I just type 'fb' for facebook.com, 'ym' for yahoo mail, etc.
