so today i was doing some interweb surfing and i came across some of those sites that are like "get a free item for referring 10 people" and a while back on TSS Alex, Kevin and Sarah did one of those free ipod ones and i remember Kevin and Sarah saying that they received the gift certificate but Alex was still waiting for his ipod. and now i want to know if he actually got his ipod because i am trying to get a PS3 and it seems that getting it for free is easier than paying for one. so i was wondering if anyone has ever filled one of these out and got the item they wanted?

Once, years ago, against my better judgement, I got sucked into one of those things....never did win the free item, but I did end up owing Columbia House hundreds of dollars because of it (long story, don't want to get into it)

Its more work than I really wanted to do. You really have to read the fine print on all the ad offers they have because it could end up costing you a lot. Getting people to click your referral link isnt too hard...getting them to signup and pay money for those offers is next to impossible.
There are forums where they trade referrals for cash or referral exchange. Check out this site, which has a pretty big community of people around these types of offers: http://www.anything4free.com/forums/index.php

I got a free 360 through it.
My friend got a free 360 video ipod...ds...250 dollar gift certificate and xbox game.
The hard part is finding people who aren't going to scam you. there are sites like www.anything4free.com which is a community of freebie people who trade referrals and post their progress and the pics of their prizes.
Also, some freebie sites are more reliable than other. I recommend getting stuff from Transcendent Innovations freebie sites, or TRAINN sites for short. I actually still have one up there that I need 2 referrals to get a free 360.
The thing is that you need to make sure you get the referrals. It' important that you clear your cache and history before you do an offer or something will mess up and you won't get credit for your referrals.
The trick is to cancel everything you get a trial for right away. There's tons of crap you have to go through with phone people who you cancel with and you do pay for the things that you sign up for for other people (in turn they will sign up for your stuff) but at least you can cancel and at least you get a product. The problem is that you can't really do an offer more than once from a particular address or credit card or IP address or whatever. So if you find a good offer, you can't do it over and over again. So by around the end you're doing offers that aren't as reliable in terms of getting credit for your payment or whatever.
It's a lot of work. And it isn't really free...but I got a 360 for maybe 30-50 bucks when they were 400 dollars.
Just make sure you communicate a lot with the people who you are referring..
I dunno if you want to know anything else, ask me. But yeah I only did my 12 referrals for a 360 and I was so tired of it after only one that I won't ever do it again.

Yea, I did one of them in the past. Got the 6 referrals I needed to get the iPod I was hoping to get, but the site rejected 3 of my referrals because they all had Hotmail address. I was told it was because "I could have just signed up a few emails addresses there." (o.0) I was thinking that my friends and I liked that service so we all got emails there. I have since moved to gmail, thank god. But yea, what nobodysleeps said, just keep at it. weigh the cost to benefit. If it will cost you $50 for a $400 item, do it. but $70 for a $100 item, not so much.
Also, if you need more names and addresses, just open a phonebook. =P
