We've made an update to the site, specifically around the feeds for shows like Tekzilla, Internet Superstar and iFanboy that have daily episodes

Read about it on our blog (http://revision3.com/blog/2008/03/18/pick-your-feed)

Now that there are separate feeds for tekzilla and tekzilla daily will the iTunes feed be updated??

I'm very glad about splitting the daily v. weekly shows, much obliged. However, when I go to the feeds for the weekly show, they ain't a workin' today. FF and iTunes show no RSS entries for any Tekzilla feeds.

Weird part is that I *think* it was working yesterday or the day before.

Hi,

Could we get the .mp4 file with a direct link? I have a Sandisk Sansa View that won't play any of the formats you have posted except the wmv and the player locks up on wmv's. This is a player problem.

It will play the .mp4 files just fine but I cannot run iTunes at work.

Thanks!

Regards,

I've just got into Tekzilla and really liking it, keep up the good work guys.
I also think it's been good to seperate up the feeds and would just like to reiterate how pro it would be to have the two feeds for iTunes.
Unless of course I'm being stupid and can't get it working, in which case, help appreciated.

They wont be listed separately in iTunes, but you can subscribe to them manually within iTunes using the rss link. In iTunes, click "advanced", then "subscribe to podcast" and there you can copy and paste the feed link that you find under "subscription options" on tekzilla's main page

that is a great update...I never had a problem with the old way because I want both but I can see why people would want separated feeds...nice job on paying attention. :)

There needs to be an easier way in iTunes to do this. I had to come here and read through threads to find the only option was to use the Advanced feature and add the rss yourself?! Those who subscribe on itunes don't come here everyday to chat it up, and read these threads. Better to update iTunes links.

I'm new to the whole RSS feed into iTunes deal. My question is "Is there a way to separate the Apple themed dailies from the Windows ones?" I like to look at both, but sometimes I just want to see all the Apple ones.

Is there a way to do this either on the website itself (maybe I'm just missing it), or via iTunes?

Same boat here. All my Rev3 (and non-Rev3) feeds are working fine except Tekzilla. Specifically, the large Xvid combined feed. It appears to be the exact same feed addy as before the weekly/daily split.

Perhaps a website update that was overlooked?

This is not an adequate solution... you can't watch the weekly show through AppleTV if it's not setup properly in iTunes.

PLEASE FIX THIS... YOU HAVE MULTIPLE FEEDS SETUP FOR OTHER SHOWS!

The other shows don't have daily versions. We have nine different formats, and three different combinations of shows (weekly only, daily only, and combined). To list every option available, there would be 27 different feeds, if I've done my math right. The RSS feeds are the only workaround we've found, but I'll look into the Apple TV issue for you.

Edit: I'm confused - If you subscribe using the method I described above, the show doesn't appear in AppleTV?

Can you not set it up in iTunes?

Sigh... I had a big response written out yesterday but my computer went kablooie on me before it got posted so I had to re-write it.

Your math is accurate, but you're calculating the wrong thing. 27 is how many different video files are generated per week, but that doesn't mean you're sending 27 feeds to iTunes. Quicktime is the only format that iTunes cares about.

You don't have to change anything you're doing with regards to video formats because you're already generating the right formats. You're even creating the right RSS feed on the website. The only thing that's wrong is the RSS feed(s) that you have submitted to iTunes.

There should only be three feeds sent to iTunes for each show, but currently there are 5 for the daily show. The redundancy is that two Quicktime formats are listed under both "Tekzilla" and "Tekzilla Daily Tips".

Adding the weekly show to iTunes would only require, at most, an additional 3 RSS feeds per show. And if you removed the redundant feeds for the daily show, you'd actually end up with fewer feeds to iTunes each week.

In reponse to your other question, if you manually add an RSS feed URL for a podcast to iTunes, that doesn't make it available for streaming on the AppleTV. AppleTV doesn't look at your computer's iTunes local settings for podcast subscriptions. It only looks at the list available from the online iTunes store, so if it's not to be found in that list, you can't stream it.

Beyond that, if you manually subscribe to a podcast in iTunes, then your computer will check periodically for new shows and download them as they become available. If you set up iTunes to sync that particular podcast to the AppleTV, then they will subsequently be transfered over there. That may sound at first like it works, but it's a bad solution in at least three ways.

First, iTunes only downloads the most recent episode it finds for any given show. That means that in order to avoid missing episodes, you have to leave your computer turned on and iTunes running all the time. Otherwise you'd have to manually update the podcast to download other episodes.

Second, this scenario means that each episode of every podcast you configure this way must be downloaded. Normally when you watch podcasts on AppleTV, it simply streams each episodes. So if you don't watch something you don't waste the bandwidth. Since an episode of Tekzilla can approach half a gigabyte, this is enough bandwidth to be noticeable.

Third, this scenario means that each episode has to be copied to your AppleTV's hard drive before viewing. For Tekzilla, that's two 400mb transfers you have to sit through before you can watch it, instead of instant-streaming.

Fourth, at 400mb or so an episode you can quickly run out of space on your AppleTV's hard drive. Especially if you have the 40gb version. Furthermore, there's no option to DELETE these shows from the AppleTV other than going back to the computer running iTunes, deleting the show there, and then resyncing with the AppleTV.

Beyond all these considerations... why should Tekzilla be the only Revision3 show that isn't properly setup on iTunes?

Ok, I understand now. I dont see where the redundancy is, though. We have 3 versions of the weekly+daily show feed: HD, Large, and small Quicktime. And we have 2 versions of the daily show: HD and small quicktime.

Like I said, the others shows don't have dailies, which is probably where the confusion is happening.

I'll look into your original issue, though.

OK, I see now... I did not realize that the weekly show was getting mixed in with the daily show... Every time I look at the list of episodes for any of the feeds, all I see at the top is is several episodes of the daily show listed first. I see now if I look closer, the weekly show is, in fact, mixed in.

This sort of dismisses my original gripe to a certain degree, but brings up another issue. It would be nice if the weekly show episodes were easier to find in the list. Perhaps you guys could put some sort of prefix on them so they stand out in the list? Like "Episode 81:" or something like that?

It'd still be nice to have a separate feed for the weekly show... The main problem with having them mixed together with the dailies is that the feed only has the 25 most recent episodes. That means most of the list will be the daily show, with only be a handful of the weekly shows in the mix.

By the way... in the message that got zapped by my computer crash, I'd taken time out to say "thanks" but apparently I forgot to include that when I rewrote the message later. So once again, thanks for your time and efforts.
