My very rad wife got me a pair of heelys for my 27th birthday yesterday and I'm hooked.

At first I tried skating around the kitchen and thought there was no way I would ever be able to stand in these things. But after about 10 minutes I got the hang of going straight (slowly), and progressed to the garage. After about another 20 minutes I got the hang of turning and was able to do a full lap of the garage with one kick-off. Then it was time to hit the streets.

I discovered a few things the hard way, like how they don't like to go over big seams in the footpath (I haven't had a skinned knee since I was a kid, ouch!). But it's so worth it for when you find a nice smooth downhill path, you can pick up some crazy speed which is really fun. The only downside (well, apart from the busted knee) is that my legs are killing me today, I think I over did it for my first day.

So does anyone else here use heelys? Have any tips for a heely noob like me, like how to walk in them without looking like you're constipated? Has anyone pulled off any tricks that I should try? Dan do you still use yours?

Haha, my sister got a pair for her boyfriend on his birthday and I was messing around with them, had the pretty much same experience as you. Never got really comfortable on them though. I used to always think they were stupid, but they are actually a lot of fun.

I never tried out heelys, but when ever I'm in public and I see kids rolling around in them, I always want to see them fall. I don't think it's because I'm a horrible person, but rather, I'm insanely jealous I didn't have heelys growing up as a kid.

The bonus dvd for Finding Nemo has the kid Alexander whatever his name is, who did the voice for Nemo ( the youngest kid in Weeds ), absolutely hooting around the Pixar studios. There's a shot of him clearing the whole Pixar lobby with one kick-off.

put all your wait on one foot for the main part. Don't lock your knees and lean a little. My mom had to help me and we practiced at Target. She held my hand and dragged me so I could learn to get my balance. And when I got better and no one was around she would pull me really fast and then let go and I would go flying. I almost hit a woman but she was cool. My mom and I got slushies afterward and laughed.

Awesome, you won't find any other like her, why don't you go give her a hug and kiss and let her know how much you appreciate her, and give her two, one from us as well.

They make Heelys in non-childrens sizes? And people buy them?

I feel the same whenever I see people skateboarding in public, when I walk past the local skatepark, I just have to stop and watch until someone loses it. Does that make me a bad person?

Apparently not enough of it.

Why would you not be watching past episodes if you have the chance ? Seriosuly, I'm only posting on the boards because it's a while til the next TRS. I WISH I had spare new eps to view - go watch them dork.

They do an episode in which they buy and try heelys.

I have that DVD, I'll have to check it out. Though it will probably make me feel highly inferior seeing someone so young ripping it up...

It's not going to take that DVD to make you feel that.

The first time I ever saw heelys was when I saw a kid just roll by and I had to stop and look and double check if his legs were moving.

I'm tall, I don't think heelys would be very good for me, although I do have a steep straight long flat driveway.

I was totally locking my knees all day yesterday, that may explain why my legs are killing me today. My wife pulled me along for a while, but then she started sprinting along with me in tow. That was scary!

Hehehe-sprinting along with a person in tow rocks. Good for the abs, the legs, the arms and a good laugh when you let go.

Thats true, the reason I had to practice in the garage first was because all the kids around here seem to have them, and they tear up the street without fear. I didn't want to look too stupid (any more than a fully grown man wearing heeleys does already that is).

I assume that by "stupid" you mean "awesome" or possibly "bad-ass".

In other news, one of my best friend's birthday is Monday and I'm giving her a set of Heelys. Unfortunately, I wear a 13, and they only had them up to 9.

Of course, 'stupid' is Australian for 'bad-ass'...

Luckily for me I'm a size 9, though my wife still had trouble finding them in that size.

Really? The one's I got for my friend are secretly $20 Wal-Mart Heelys knock-offs. The store at the mall that caries the real deals for $60(ish, I think) stocks through 11 or 12 (I think).

I wonder if you could gut a set and put the wheels into some dress shoes.

you probably could if you got some with a decent heel on them. Formal Heelys, for those special occasions. That would be rad...

well we're both lawyers and we're running around court all the time at the mercy of crazy judges who apparently expect us to teleport so they don't have to wait for us.

maybe the heelys could shave a few seconds off our time

I would love to put heelys into my high heels. I have the greatest pair of navy blue patent leather stillettos that would utterly rock with them. Then I could freak out all the doctors and stuff. I am always walking around on just the heels when I am bored at work anyway.
