Hello,

I have picked up invincible from issue 40 but want to get the trades i have found all of these (http://www.forbiddenplanet.com/search/Sinvincible) but not sure which ones would bring me up to speed with all issues from #1 - #39

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Many Thanks
Rich

I would suggest purchasing all of them, either in TPB format or HC. Kirkman has done a great job with TPB schedule on both Walking Dead and Invincible. A TPB collection of both these titles is published every six issues or so, and typcially has extras look at sketchbooks and author notes in it. Highly recommended.

Thanks very much :-)

I will look into getting them :-) I am just missing out on the front end of the story.

Get the three ultimate collections - that will take you up to issue 35 and then the vol. 8 TPB has issues 36-41. Or if you don't want the HC's the first 8 TPB's are what you need - but i think the HC's would be a little cheaper...

(and btw, amazon and/or instocktrades.com usually list the issues that the trades cover)

The HC books are absolutely beautiful. They are worth the price.

Read the whole thing from the beginning. Its really a great series. The strength of the series is the personal dynamic of family, friends and enemies. The superheroics are almost superfluous to the concept.

I wouldn't go that far. Mark's superheroics (and those if his friends/family) are fairly central conflicts for the series.

Just bought "Invincible Ultimate Collection Vol. 1". I've never read an issue of this book and I'm very excited about it.

I have read the first 5 trades and have loved it so far. Vols 6-9 are sitting in my read stack. I can’t wait to get to them.

Okay, now I'm pissed, because I just READ "Invincible: Ultimate Collection Vol. 1"... and now I must immediately get the next several volumes. And I certainly can't afford THAT.

I just ordered volumes 2 and 3 of the ultimate collection after reading the first. I am really digging this series the writing and art and eye popping colors all flow together beautifully. I think my expectations were fairly low for some reason and I was just blown away.

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any other books similar to Kirkman’s, I’m a big fan of his style of writing and unfortunately have all of his stuff now.

Does Kirkman have a style? I get both Invincible and Walking Dead in trades but, other than being quality stories, I don't feel a singular style like I do reading a Bendis comic.

You might try The Astonishing Wolfman (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=16986) comic by Kirkman. I wasn't grabbed by the first issue but that was before the superhero side became evident (it's a werewolf superhero).

I was thinking about this as well, and I dont think he has a style that carries over through his books. He seems to have a unique take on whatever genre he tackles.

BTW I posted that link because the Wolfman book was pictured up top. Turns out he didn't discuss it til the last paragraph. Still a fun read though.

Yea Battle Pope is really funny. I read it when it first came out and I remember laughing my ass off. Are you just looking for creator owned Kirkman stuff? He wrote a bit for marvel. I dropped Ultimate X-Men during his run so I wouldn't recommend that, but he did Marvel Team Up which I heard good things and bad things about. He also did Ant-Man which I kind of liked. It wasn't his best work.

Marvel Zombies is a Kirkman book that I really enjoyed, but I am biased towards Zombie tales. If you put a unique spin on that genre, you have sold one copy right here.

Yeah, I racked my brain trying to think of someone like Kirkman, because I couldn't describe Kirkman's work if I tried. Tad puts it very correctly I think. There's a tone there, and a style of dialog, but it's quite illusory.

I notice that he loves to reference old TV sitcoms: The name of each of the trades is an old TV show; eight is enough, family matters, my favorite martian, etc.

I don't know if that's a style...but I thought it was hilarious.

"Invincible" and "Ultimate Spider-Man" are very similar in tone.

Has anyone ever mentioned that Kirkman did a Jubilee series?

"Anyone" includes Marvel.
