I'm pretty sure doing an encore and getting to play "Carry on my Wayward Son" was one of the coolest moments I've ever had

Me, my brother, and a friend did a marathon on GH2 today and we've gotten to the section with Anthrax, Lamb of God, etc. on Expert. We've gotten through everything else without too much trouble but these songs are kicking our asses.

Except for the Anthrax one which we beat.

Yeah, I made the mistake of going on expert as of now, and my roommate and I just wanna unlock the songs for vs. play. The PRACTICE mode is AWESOME. so AWESOME.

I've been playing for not too long now, about an hour or two and i'm stuck on the solos on search and destroy. we play on expert, but something tells me, i should've toned it down just for the unlocking.

encoring tonight i'm gonna rock you tonight was AWESOME!!!

*one complaint*

The covers aren't NEARLY as good in this game. The Carry on my Wayward Sun was ruined for me b/c the guitar playing was different. The ****ing guy palms some notes when they're just played strumming and picking in the real version. That's the sign of an insecure guitar player.

Also, on Heart-Shaped Box, COME ON!!! that SUCKS!!! They add an extra poppy stupid solo of the vocal melody in there that kurt cobain would never put on a recording...he'd make noise or something. And also, the guy who sings it is waaay too coherent. oh well, though, what can you do.

the rest of the game is awesome though

JUDY IS MY GIRL!!! and I'm SO glad she's back.

We jumped right into expert, because anything less on GH1 has become a bit boring. GH2 seems to be quite a bit harder though.

I think the covers are fairly good with a few exceptions. The dude they got to do Mother just butchers Danzig's voice, same goes for the Killing in the Name cover.

I agree that the little solo thrown into Heart Shaped Box is out of place but I still think its a decent cover.

It could have been worse, they could have thrown a bone to New Found Glory and had them cover all the songs instead. When it comes to shitty cover songs those guys are experts... and they need the work.

Thanks to Guitar Hero 2 I'm going to have a pull an all nighter to write a paper due tomorrow and teach myself 3 chapters of Statistics for a quiz tomorrow as well. Why do you have to be so addicting and so amazing Guitar Hero! Arrrgh. I don't think the set list is nearly as good as GH1, granted it does have a few gems in it, but some of the songs are horrible. But then again, it's a price I'm willing to pay to have Free Bird.

If I was good at guitar hero, I would like it. Instead when ever I play I want to smash the guitar against my ps2. Maybe I should stop setting the songs on hard....

YEAH. my roommate and I started out on medium and worked from there (we both play guitar) and pretty soon we were both playing expert within like two weeks and getting in the 90's %-wise. So just climb up that ladder man. Is da way to do it.

Yeah... it's going to be a struggle holding out on GH2 untill the 360 version in the spring, but there's no way I'm buying anything else for the PS2 game-wise. Or peripheral-wise.

I'm so pissed off at my PS2 right now I'm about ready to pack it up into the closet.

I rented "Okami" from Gamefly, and the damn thing refused to save my game. I have a 32meg datacard and it wants an 8meg datacard. Piss on that.

Anyone with a suggestion for the hand cramping issue?Change hands occassionally? Get a stunt hand in for the really difficult jobs? Regular grease and oil change? Stretching exercises?

You just have to keep going. Every new craft has a period of pain. You will get callouses and then you'll be fine.

One of the songs that you can buy to play is Trogdor the Burninator from Homestar Runner.

Yeah, me too. Just beat it in fact and unlocked Freebird. That solo at the end is ridiculous. It sucks because to get to that you have to play through the five minutes of extremely easy stuff before. I tried it about four times but I don't think I can take it again right now.

I started the game on Hard, I only failed on two songs, something and Freebird. And I got 5 stars on Nirvana on the first play through. Medium just moves to slow for me to get the timing right, and i usually hit the notes to early. I also like that it is easier to do hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Has anyone beat Freebird on Expert? It's the only song I haven't beaten and it's driving me crazy, it wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the LOOOONG wait till the solo.

I don't even like playing the song anymore but I want to beat it very badly.

I DID IT!!

I beat the game on Expert. I guess now all that's left to do is to get five stars on everything (never going to happen....ever).

I played it at EB games the other night. I tried Mother on easy and it pissed me off since I could almost half ass play the song on guitar back in the day.

Then I tried Laid to Rest on Hard, bad idea. War Pigs on Medium, just as bad. My friend played Mother better than I did and then the Jail-bait girl behind the counter came out and played Girlfriend on expert and did pretty good.

Maybe alcohol and about 16 hours of free time will help me in this matter.

Does GH and playing real guitar use the same skill set though? I mean, besides keeping a beat?

oh hell yeah. the hand-eye coordination is totally there. the only thing that's TOTALLY different...well not the only thing...is the muscle set that it uses. you're using bare bones minimum force with the tips of your fingers for GH than you would for a real guitar.

Guitar players play a lot of lead and in a lot of ways they are the loudest and often in local bands and some really shitty bands, they'll be so loud that the drummer will sometimes follow them, so even keeping a beat isn't that important...it is important above all things...but not prominent among most guitar players.

GOOD guitar players use the same skill factor as GH x26 or so since you've got six strings and about 24 frets. (144 different positions). So when we've got all those going, GH uses the same skill set that a baby would to walk, while guitar playing uses that same skill set as the baby to do something like run a marathon.

Also, guitar players beat the shit out of their fingers if their strings are thick, metal, or cheap. and entire fingers are often used for bar chords.

While guitar hero, especially this one, gets really quick with the hand eye coordination, playing any of those solos on an actual guitar would (for the most part) be at least four times as hard.

hope that answers your q
:)

Yeah...I got four stars too.

Now that I've beat all the main songs I've been trying the bonus songs and I gotta say a couple of those are more difficult than any of the main songs.

Kind of.

I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now. I'm not that great at it though, I've just done it for fun and haven't ever gotten really hardcore about it. I'd say I could get away with being in shitty punk band.

Anyway, GH does a really good job of simplifying and simulating what its like to play a guitar but the difference in difficulty is pretty vast. Like BrianGilmore pointed out, the number of possible positions on a real guitar is significantly more than GH and hitting a small string is much harder than a big button.

So I'm not going to be pulling off the Freebird solo on my guitar anytime soon.
