Why do we eat ham on Easter if Jesus was a Jew?

LOL, that is somewhat ironic, however, most Jews only believe in ONLY the Old Testament so they still find Ham to be an "unclean thing" whereas those things are okay in the New Testament so most non-Jews don't have a problem with Ham. I sure don't! :D

NJShadow? You praise Eostre? Wow, I could have sworn otherwise because of your flame bate signature...

Hurray for another stolen holiday!!

The eggs and the bunnies represent reproduction, which is a lot of what the original pagan holiday was about. So, everyone be sure to knock someone up/get knocked up today!

EDIT: I don't remember where Jesus said it was okay to eat ham. Could you link me to the passage? That would be a stupid mistake on my part if I threw that out there at some point...

Happy Easter from an atheist.

For those of you looking to turn this into a flame fest, let the guy send his holiday cheer out, for crying out loud. He's just well wishing.

Should have seen the thread last he started last year on this day. Eventually had to be closed. Got my first warning from the mods in that thread :D

Yay! Zombie Jesus Day! My cat resurrected last October, that's good enough for me.

Kronos, New Jesus Boy has a tendency to get over-religious here, despite this being an overwhelmingly non-Christian board. I don't think you were here when the drama was happening over his signature being in the biggest test allowed, bright yellow and bold, making bible proclamations and generally driving us batty. He knows by now that any religious threads he stats are going to go down this path. It didn't used to be that way, but after a while, that changed.

You know, this really annoys me too. From decorated yule trees to colored eggs, it's been stolen. Easter's name comes from the goddess Eostra, which you, Patch, know. Do pagans even have a legal recognition? I'd rather celebrate Ostara than Easter.

Not that I am aware of. "Pagan" and "Heathen" are pretty interchangable. The terms have pretty much evolved to mean anything outside any Abrahamic or monotheistic religion. So, thats really too broad to give legal recognition.

I wouldn't rather celebrate Ostara. Spring equinox, Winter solstice, sure, but anything with any celebration to any sort of mythology I try my best not to be a part of.

I find the modern ritual of the yull tree pretty stupid honestly. I'm not a tree hugger by any means, but I mean honestly, what a waste. Thousands of trees chopped down to be put in a building for a short period of time and then thrown away... I mean really? Way back when, when the pagan holiday was around, they would actually decorate the trees outside, still alive... That seems like a better idea to me.

Its not ok to tell people happy easter for us who believe in this holiday? That does not seem correct to me. He did not leave it open for any bashing. If you do not believe in the holiday then don't comment, don't even open the thread! This is still America freedom of religion.

Next people say that he can not wish people happy easter and he should not have started this thread BUT starting a thread on Islam is ok? Wow is this a communist society here. If it is not ok to start a thread saying happy easter then there should be a forum rule that NO religious threads can or should be started.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Most of these trees are grown in a farm for the sole purpose of being chopped down for Christmas. Its just like cows, pigs, chickens, ect. being raised to be slaughtered for food. Or we can go as far as growing corn, beans, ect. just to be harvested. All of the above are businesses. Even if you do not believe in Christmas it sure helps the economy, and thats what makes this world go round. So you can possibly look at it that way.

But then we never would have had movies like National Lampoons Christmas or Christmas story.

Trust me, I'm well aware. I live in Washington. The Evergreen state. I couldn't throw a stone from my house and not hit a tree farm. But I still see it as a waste. Growing food is one thing. It helps you live, but how does cutting a tree down and plopping it in your house help you live?

The diamond trade also helps the economy... Doesn't mean its good...

No, its not that its not okay. He can go on a street corner and shout about his cannibalistic religion all he wants, that doesn't mean it won't be challenged tho.

One thing you have wrong tho, while yes, some people are are in America, this is a privately owned board. They do not have to abide by the constitution.

Again, no one said it wasn't okay. That doesn't mean we don't have to like it. If you don't want your beliefs challenged, keep them to your self.

Dude, chill, you're new still. Techlive, who started the Islam thread, is new, and it was closely watched for flaming. NJ's been around for a while and has an established history of getting to be preachy at times. If threads aren't made light from the start on this topic, they can go downhill into arguing, just as you're trying to do now. And that results in threads being closed.

This board isn't America, we don't have American nor democratic rights here. Not all of our mods have even been to America.

Religion is a touchy subject. If you bring it to a place where you KNOW the majority don't agree with you, then you get what you get. He's free to post religious symbols and we're free to post what we want on the topic as well. Your wanting everyone else to just bugger off is akin to saying we shouldn't be afforded the same rights to freedom of speech or religion as Christians who, btw, have done their fair share of suppression over time.

Don't be a hypocrite. If you want to be able to say what you want, then don't go telling others they shouldn't say what THEY want.

So just chill.

Here (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?p=322549). A waste of a new thread all just for you. Happy now?

Does this mean you don't drive a car, heat your house, or have electricity?
Each one of these is using up a natural resource that is not being replenished as fast as we use it. BTW is your house made of wood? You do not have to eat beef, pork, chicken or fish to survive. If you eat any of those you do it by choice, even worse that someone cutting down a tree for a religious holiday.

I personally have an artificial tree because I do agree we need all the trees we can grow. But I am just trying to make a point. And if you ask me Christmas has gotten way to commercial to me, and it has lost most of its meaning. But it keeps the economy going and that is always a good thing. I don't care what religion you believe in but if you own a retail business you are going to look forward to the sales during Christmas.

Except, on that street corner, you're shouting at strangers. Here, he knows exactly who he's dealing with and that the majority of us aren't Christians. If he chooses to shout it at us, he makes that decision knowing it won't be well-received with pats on the back and choruses of Amen's! RAmens, maybe, but not religious.

Wow... Really? Okay, I said this in another thread... I dropped out of highschool and I know this stuff.

I drive a car, cause it helps me live. It helps me get to food, it helps me get to clothing, it helps me get to money so I can barter for said food and clothing... I heat my house because if I didn't, I'd fucking die. I have electricity because if I didn't I couldn't heat my house, or cook my food, or keep my food from spoiling, and, once again, I'd fucking die.

My house is in fact made of wood, but see, you're totally over looking what I said before. My house has a use, to help me live, and it is very, very, long term... Unlike cutting down a tree and sticking it inside for a few weeks...

And no, I didn't ask you. Yes, it has lost most of its meaning, because it wasn't originally a christian holiday...

You guys should cut the kid some slack and stop being so defensive. His message was friendly.

3. Be kind to other members by showing respect to their opinions and feelings. Making false claims about a person or company is prohibited. The use of the Revision3 forums is a privilege, not a right. Having a negative attitude, being a snob, and flaming will not be tolerated anywhere.

It would be too bad to ban all religious discourse.

Have some Hassenpfeffer for the occasion...

PS. Zombie Jesus, FTW.
