I got this idea from a post on Kwok's forum where he listed the top ten Marvel books off of IGN.com. I didn't agree with the list so i posted my own.
Feel free to use this thread to post your Top Five/Ten topics (i figure top tens may be little too long for all topics..)
I'll start with my Top Ten Marvel Books:
1.New Avengers - Whether the last issue was good or not, this is ALWAYS the book I look forward to reading the most. it's THE marvel book IMO
2.Powers - Bendis' best work. if it came out regularly it would be at number one
3.Criminal - Brubaker just knocks it out of the park with every storyarc. it just keeps getting better and better
4.Captain America - Who would have thought a book without the main character could last so long. I look forward to watching Bucky develop the same sense of honour that Steve Rogers had
5.Astonishing X-men - there really is no other x-book that compares. so many character defining moments in this book
6.Ultimate Spider-Man - This is THE book that got me back into comics and i've been loving it ever since
7.Daredevil - My favorite Marvel character, the last arc faltered a bit but i have high hopes for the newest one
8.The Order - the most underrated mainstream comic book. best thing to come out of The Initiative and it's a shame there is only one issue left
9.X-factor - Best thing to come out of House of M. I love the team dynamic
10.Kick Ass - I have high expectations for issue two, the first issue left me floored.
Feel free to post your Top Ten/Five Marvel books or start your own lists here.

Global Frequency - Ellis
(It was actually tough not to just fill this up with Ellis' stuff. Ocean, Transmet, Switchblade Honey, Orbiter, etc.)

From Marvel currently, I think these are the best;
1. Captain America - Brubaker's best work. No doubt about it. One of the top 3 comics going right now? I'd say, yes.
2. Whedon & Cassaday's Astonishing X-men - The best X-men book ever written. The only X-men book worth reading.
3. Criminal - Brubaker, you break my heart.
4. Daredevil- See above.
5. Something I enjoy reading but on a whole isn't nearly as consistent or as high in quality as the above; Runaways post-Vaughan, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane if it were being published (wtf?), Thor, The Order, New Avengers when it is not embarrassingly awful.

Damn I don't know if I could do a top five marvel or DC at the moment. All of these big events are starting to bring me down, can I just have some good old fashioned comics?
I also don't even think I pick up 5 marvel monthlies... I'll think about DC

1. Ultimate Spider-Man - There are other Marvel books that are better, plain and simply, but I enjoy this book the most. It's not always 10/10, but it is always the book I am most eager to read the week it comes out. Like a conversation with a good friend, it isn't always marvelous, stupendous, or engaging, but I am still glad to be there.
2. Captain America - I love Captain America (Steve Rogers), so it is remarkable that Brubaker has kept me loving this book after killing off one of my all-time favorite characters.
3. Astonishing X-Men -This has kept me satisfied while I took an X-Men hiatus.
4. New Avengers - Frankly, I've enjoyed almost every issue. Bendis has a hold on me.
5. Daredevil - Last arc didn't bother me as much, perhaps because I remembered Mr. Fear from the past and it was cool to see him so cunning and evil.
6. Amazing Spider-Man - Pretty much the book I will ALWAYS buy, so it's nice that it lands at the 6 spot for me.
7. Criminal - Maybe the best book at Marvel, but for some reason, not my favorite.
8. Powers - Just recently read all of volume one and the first 6 issues of volume 2 and am steadily plowing through until I am caught up on the current issue.
9. Fantastic Four - I just like the Fantastic Four. honestly, I like Millar's first two issues less than the last few years. Go figure.
10. X-Factor - Sometimes I dig Peter David a great deal, sometimes not. This is the most I've enjoyed a Peter David book since Captain Marvel.

OK, this one is a little cerebral...
5 books I didn't think I'd be this in love with a year ago...
5. Captain America - I started picking this series up right after issue 25, and have been in love with it since.
4. Avengers: The Initiative - Ok, this one is a bit of a cheat - the book started 11 months ago. But when the book came out, it seemed like an attempt to milk yet another book out of Civil War. Since then the road has been rocky, but I'm back to looking forward to every issue in the current storyline.
3. Amazing Spider-Man - A year ago, this character and all the Spidey titles were faltering. After the controversial One More Day, Amazing has turned into a book I'm willing to buy 3 times a month. We'll see if the quality continues now that the first set of stories is out of the way.
2. Immortal Iron Fist - Another character I didn't care much about before. I started reading right after the first arc finished, and love the kung-fu and great writing. As tough as it gets sometimes to tell all the Rands and Randalls apart, I love this every week it come out.
1. Green Arrow / Black Canary - I hadn't really read much DC before, and picked up this after being drawn to Green Arrow by Kevin Smith's trades. And man, I don't look forward to any book as much as this one each month.
I was actually thinking about this today:
Top Five Creators Who are Doing Interesting Things with the Medium
1. Jonathan Hickman- Of course, his paneling, pacing, writing are unique and refreshing
2. Richard Starkings- Listen to his 2 hour conversation on Wordballoon; his perspective on design and comics is awesome, and Elephantmen is really interesting
3. David Petersen- A book about mice living like they were in Lord of the Rings with a book that's shape and craft defies normal books
4. Jason Aaron- From Scalped to Ghost Rider, he's shaking things up and one of my favorite writers
5. Brian Wood- Politics is often hard to write about; DMZ changes all of that

5. Ultimate Spiderman- I haven't missed a issue of this when I started to pick it up around issue 90. I need to go back and pick up the trades.
4. Astonishing X-Men, By far the best X-men book ever published.
3. Runaways- I just recently picked it up in issue form and dropped it in issue form because of the rocky Whedon transition. I don't know if its a regular monthly titles again.
2. Invincible- Greatest superhero comic being made. The only reason it doesn't rank in the number one spot is because I don't antispate the next issue quite as much as I do for:
1. X-factor- I think this is the best book out there right now. It's the one I look forward to every month.

Nonsense. I know of plenty of folks that dislike the film and book. Hornby is fairly well hated.
Average movie. Made worse by Hornby's gimmick of injecting his own awful musical tastes and out-dated rockist view of music in another ham-fisted story of a man-child. Yeah, but no.
Plus the character of Rob Gordon in that film is hella annoying and twatish.
I do love the word "twatish." It's my goal to try and find a way to use it today.

Top Ten Favorite TV shows:
1. Lost - This show continues to impress me week after week. I really do wonder how far back they had thought through some of these plot lines and twists
2. The Wire - This is quite possibly the best work of fiction ever produced with a video camera. I feel bad not putting this on my list because i do think it's the best show ever made, i just enjoy Lost more.
3. Twin Peaks - The show that started it all. It took serialized drama to a new level. Half the shows we watch today wouldn' exist without TP
4. The Shield - I'm finally finishing up season 5 and this is one helluva rollercoaster. Each season gets better and better
5. Carnivale - If you can't tell, im a sucker for bizarre mindfuck television. this show ended before it's time
6. Rescue Me - Who would have thought that i'd actually enjoy watching Dennis Leary. Firefighters are an underrepresented field on television and this show does them particularly well
7. Rome - A HBO show about Roman history?? how they hell could they ever fuck that up?!?! This show was damn near perfect IMO
8. Entourage - I WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH A SUPERSTAR!
9. Deadwood - I usually hate westerns, this show has made me love them
10. 30 Rock - Funniest show on television, each episode knocks it outta the park: "I'm Bill Cosby, Jello, Sweaters!" Brilliant!
HBO killed my list, i think they may have an unfair advantage though since they don't have to worry about censors

I second that. It's fantastic and great and I love it mucho mucho. The only thing that makes it kinda eh in my book is that some episode can feel WAY long. That said, once you understand the main character (who is pretty) you just fall in love with her.
Also, it's by Bryan Fuller, creator of Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies. He had a lot of goodness in this show and made it great without going weird, which is totally different for him, but he does it extremely well.
And Pol, are you watching Battlestar Galactica? You should get on that, dude. It's fantastic.

As far as I know it's still going.
I'm really hoping they do this in nice hardcover collections, like an omnibus treatment as I am not reading it and always prefer to spend more money then I need on collections. This one sounds like it deserves a nice hardcover treatment from how amazing people tell me it is.

I'm definitely in the minority as a comic reader, because I don't read any of the 40,000 X-titles (sorry Ron) or Avengers books, so my Marvel list is almost every Marvel book I read right now.

Yes, I know that Land draws women to look like Maxim models and Miller gets lost in political debates with himself, but if you ignore Ultimate Power and think of their run on Ultimate Fantastic Four their is something pleasant to be said about them. They basically created the Marvel Zombies for Kirkman to play with.

i really enjoyed that UFF arc, it's probably the best the series had been. i just don't know if i can look at Land's art the same way anymore, since fred pointed out their are all traced off of Porno movies. I look at his work and it just makes me laugh now

Top 5 Writers Who Have Influenced Me the Most:
1) Brian K. Vaughan - I just adore anything written by the guy. He's a master at balancing plot, characters, & theme. He taught me that "world-creation" is key to a great series.
2) Robert Kirkman - Reading Invincible made me realize that you can get away with things in comics that you can't in movies, TV, & books. He taught me that superhero comics should be fun.
3) Jeph Loeb - I don't read any regular series by him, but nearly everything he's done with Tim Sale has blown me away. He taught me that you can embrace the super hero genre and still make it deeply human. He's great at balancing that.
4) Bryan Lee O'Malley - The only thing I've read by him is Scott Pilgrim, but that series has me hooked. I have more fun reading a Scott Pilgrim book than I do with almost any other media. He taught me that people connect with natural dialog, personal stories, and inside jokes.
5) Gerard Way - I know that he's new to this and he's probably just channeling Grant Morrison (I haven't read enough of him) but I thought Umbrella Academy was the best series from last/this year. He taught me that, in comics, you can let your creativity run wild and still make it work.

6. Booster Gold - Best lighthearted superhero book on the market
7. Green Arrow/Black Canary - Issue 4 is one of the single best issues this year

I think most of the Busiek/Perez Avengers run is available in trades(the highlight is definitely the Ultron Returns storyline), Bits and pieces of the New Teen Titans is out in trade(which is a crime against nature) and the only thing from Hawk & Dove out in trade is the original mini featuring art by *cough*hack*robliefield*hack*cough* which is a good but lacks something that the ongoing had(hands and feet come to mind).

I'm crazy, but I still think Tarantino's fantastic. I really liked Kill Bill (but it's easily not his best) and I thought Death Proof was frakkin excellent. Jackie Brown was weak sauce for me... Didn't really do much... But I did like his episode of CSI (seriously exceptional) and I still think he's a great director.

I'm the guy who loves all of Tarantino's bad movies, Jackie Brown was great and Kill Bill Vol 1 did nothing for me untill Vol 2 came out and I loved it. Everyone said that Vol 1 was better the Vol 2 but they are wrong. I hate Pulp Fiction with a passion and Resivor Dogs isn't anything spectacular. I haven't seen Death Proof yet, its on the Q.
