I bought some blank dvd's on ebay. I thought I bought dvd-r but I accidentally bought dvd+r. Which do you use? I heard that dvd-r was more common.

For data, i've found + and - to both work just fine. For video, however, I exclusively use -R. I (and the company I work for) burn hundreds of DVDs a month for clients, and we've found that -R is much more compatible with regular DVD players. When we were using +R, about 25% of them would be returned and we'd have to send out VHS copies. After switching to -R, that went down to less than 5%.

Thanks for the responce. I asked the seller if he had dvd-r's and asked if he could send that instead and he said yes so I'm happy. :D

I don't use my DVD burner that much. Even though I've had it for over a year, I'm still on my 1st 50 pack of blank DVDs, and they are DVD+R format. I have not had a problem with using them for data or backing up my DVD movies.

RWs can be rewritten. That is not the difference between + and - R. I do not know the technical difference (nor do I care... abstraction).

Hello there. Newbie here. :p Most players now will read + and -. Only the older, cheaper ones will not read DVD+R. There are some good comparisons on this guide (http://www.pickyguide.com/computers_and_software/dvdr_medias_guide.html).

k, the short answer and pretty well the absolute answer is...
DVD+R is a dvd disc that allows multiple layers for one disc where as dvd-r only allows one layer...
I agree with everyone else, get DVD-R and it'll more than likely be compatible with everything. Truely there is no real reason to use +R unless you can get them cheap and know they will work with what you have.
