Hi All.
I ordered an Xbox 360 off play.com yesterday and can't wait to join the latest generation of console gaming! (About time too!)

I have a question about 5.1 sound though. Haven't been able to get answer online.

Does the xbox support standard 5.1 speakers?

The reason I ask - well my tv does not support it - but I would love glorious surround sound on my shiney new xbox. Do I need to buy special microsoft kit to have 5.1?

Thanks guys

Roy

You need a fiber optic audio cable to attach to the standard AV cable that comes with the 360.

Do you have a receiver or anything? Normally you just hook the optical cable to the receiver and make sure you set the right setting in the 360 dashboard. If you got an elite you of course could use HDMI.

Your TV supporting it makes no difference.

If you're looking for a cheaper receiver package, I picked up a refurbed Onkyo to use with my 360 and DVD player and have been very happy with the quality for the money.

It's not in stock right now, but I picked up the TX-SR304 w/ speakers ( which comes in and out of stock frequently ) and it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 shipped. Registering for free on Clubonkyo knocks $10 off also. No I don't work for Onkyo :)
