So I decided to start a thread for BSG season 4 since its coming back next Friday. I was someone who came late to the game (middle of season 3) and because of Season 3 just came out on DVD, I finally caught up. And WOW! I thought that was an amazing season and surpassed all of the other seasons. The special effects took a real notch up and the story progressed a lot.
I was wondering, what was the general consensus for season 3? Did everyone like it and was it well received, or was it just something that resonated for me really well?

I was wondering, what was the general consensus for season 3? Did everyone like it and was it well received, or was it just something that resonated for me really well?Strong opening - including the best moment ever in TV SciFi ... the Galactica FTLing into the New Caprica atmosphere OMG!. Strong finish. Really really weak meandering middle.
Looking forward to Season 4.

I agree. Took a little dip in the middle. However, the ending to that season is by far the best thing to ever happen on any television anywhere, at least since, well, the ending of season 2. I'm just amazed at how much these guys are willing to give of the story. Most TV shows insist on dragging everything on and on until nobody gives a shit.
SPOILER FOR END OF SEASON THREE!!!
(Just in case some idjit looks without having seen it yet)
I cannot goddamn wait to see what it's like on you know where (begins with an e). I find this more interesting than the final cylon, which is pretty goddamn interesting. How are they going to explain our culture, cavemen (with space ships?) and things like that? When, in our timeline, is the show set? Are we all dead? Are they gonna arrive and freak us all out, Independence Day stylee? it could be bloody crazy. What do you reckon they'll do with it?
(If anybody actually knows for sure the answers to any of these, please don't say without the biggest spoiler warnings ever. I've never seen the rubbish-looking old series so even the "Let's find Earth" bit came as a massive surprise to me in the mini-series.)

I have to admit, after watching the "what the frak is going on" video on the Sci Fi website I realized I forgot about a LOT of stuff. It's been so long since I've seen the show I feel like I'm a bit detached now and really don't feel like watching Season 3 over again. Still, I can't wait for season 4.

Overall on Season 3, I felt it was incredible looking back at what happened. I could not be more excited for season 4, and I will definitely say that I thought the ending to season 3 was some of the best Sci-Fi I've ever seen, as WELL as some of the better drama I've seen.
Anyone not watching this is seriously missing out.

My wife referred to the last few episodes of season 4 as "Law & Order : BSG".
Drama was as good as any of the courtroom/cop shows on TV.

Okay cool. I felt the exact same way as everyone else. Season 3 had a fantastic beginning (best scifi tv moment ever I would agree on with the Galactica in the atmosphere), and a great end. The middle did take a little dip, but it was cool to see Gaius where he was the whole time.
Also, how about that freakin' cover of All Along the Watchtower at the end? Could there ever have been a better ending music to a show?

Yea, I can't think of anything more fitting than that song. It was epic in all aspects of the word :p
How about Razor? What did you guys think of that?
Personally, I thought it was going to suck...watched it, and thought it started out pretty lame, but about half way through I got into it, and completely dug the second half and thought that was really good.

It was OK, we understood the universe, but it could have just as easily been "Starblazers: Battle for the Empire (a SciFi Original Movie)", because it didn't really add much to the overall story.

I remember standing up and cheering when I first saw that scene... absolutely amazing. The whole rescue was just phenomenal, especially the sacrifice of Pegasus.
I also agree with the sentiments about Razor... while it was a decent enough story it didn't impact the continuing arc of the show. The only character development we got involved the Admiral and the other girl, and both are dead. We did get a spooky proclamation about Starbuck, but that's about it.

During the last few minutes, it hit me who the last one is: Roslin. You never see her in other previews and it only makes sense as Starbuck is going to kill her and she'll revive on the baseship.
Tonight's episode didn't give us anything new, was pretty lame, but oh well.

Anyone up for some wild speculation? Anyone notice how Gais Baltar had a similar resemblance to the classical images of Jesus -- that is of course until he shaved. I thought it was interesting considering he now finds himself in the company of a monotheistic cult in which he is considered, more or less, a prophet.
What if when they get to Earth, Baltar becomes the basis for monotheistic religious culture among humans on Earth.
Again just wild speculation. =P

Gaius is too obvious - but has had visions from a cylon since day 1, Starbuck is too obvious as well (but the whole coming back thing stinks of Z'ha'dum).
I thought it was a great season opener.

I dont think they would kill of Roslin in episode 2... But if they did her would her advisor, the Cylon chick, become president... If the Cylons wanted to take control this is one interresting way to do it.

They're not killing her off, she'd resurrect. I'm getting at the fact that she's a Cylon ;)
Think about it, one of the most adamant opposing parties to the Cylon Race, always making sure that she makes it known she hates them, is actually a Cylon herself! :O

Now... I'm so really mind fracked... Is the fifth Zack Adama? (Lee's dead brother and Starbuck's old boyfriend?)
Is it Laura?
Starbuck?
Is it me?

Holy Frack! That was a great episode. I'll go out on a limb and say it had probably the best space battles I've ever seen on TV or film. I think the effects work on Galactica is always great and the "doc style" way they do space battles is great.

Does anyone know how to find the ratings for the premiere? I know that the numbers season 3s premiere were down over season 2s (Probably because this is a big DVD show and people were trying to catch up).

The 12th cylon is Helo and Sharon's baby, who represents the next step in cylon evolution, the new cylon.
I'm just pulling that out of my ass, but I don't think the writers will go with a conventional reveal.

Great premiere to season 4. I am confident this season will be as mindblowing as the last. I also agree that the 12th Cylon reveal won't be simply "Oh, it's this guy who's been a character all along" I think it will be something more unique and clever, but I don't think it's the baby...I hope not, anyhow.
Great episode - loved everything about it...except for the "Baltar is the god of a random group of women in a back room on Galactica" angle. Wish they'd done something else with him post-trial.
Just to let you guys know, Ronald D. Moore has dropped a few notes on who the final Cylon may be... go to www.battlestarwiki.com for more info. Some of the things he says need to be taken with a grain of salt.
Anyways... are we going to see a BSG discussion sometime on the show? I don't think they ever discussed it have they? If so, I'd appreciate the ep. number. We still have 18 episodes left so there is plenty of time left to analyze the season. I won't go into theories on the final reveal as it's discussed ad nauseam at BattlestarForum but so far the hits keep on coming as I don't think the show has a missed a beat this final season.

There are actually 2 half-cylon half-human babies. Chief Tyrol and Cally have a son named Nicholas.

I'm very interested to know the answer to this question too. If they were to follow the original series they would find earth in present day. Of course the problem with that theory is the updated version of BSG diverges so greatly from the original story that you kinda have to throw out that theory. I'm also excited for the new spin off prequel coming.
The original was pretty bad, but it's interesting to see how they made cheesy 70's tv awesome and relevant.

So, does anyone have any predictions about who the last Cylon will turn out to be? IMO, the scene in the last episode with Baltar and his double was an obvious red herring. I also think that Adama, Starbuck and the president are too obvious. I have a feeling that it's going to be Apollo.

I don't think it's Apollo on account that all the cylons seem to be born in their adult state. I think Bill Adama would have noticed if a fully formed man popped out of no where saying he was his son. The cylons would have needed to find a way to put manufactured memories into the Admiral's mind in order to pull it off.

If I remember correctly, Adama hadn't seen his Lee for a long time before the beginning of the series. I'm thinking that he was killed at some point during that time and replaced with a Cylon.

Oh man it is going to be wicked when/if they finally get to earth. I hope they make it present day. I think that would be a cool way to end the show, and to let people know that we are not the only sign of life in the universe.

Just as long as they don't follow it up with a spin-off called Galactica 2008.

That's what we assume at first, then they reveal Tigh as Cylon which throws that out of the window.

Boxy was a minor character in the original series, he was introduced in the miniseries, but nothing ever developed. What happened to him? Is it all just too dark to have a child involved ... or (dun dun dahhhhhh) is he the 5th cylon?
From this article here (http://***************/archives/who-is-the-last-cylon-on-battl-1592.html), they have speculation on who the last cylon is. True or not, its an interesting idea ...
BUT, the real reason for linking the article is this photo.

Angela is a cylon scout who has already found Earth living as a not so presumptuous office lady and preping Earth for the eventual Cylon invasion.
