Mine is still pretty terrible because back when I first started out I'd get killed all the fuckign time. Now I can go 2:1 or so in any given game, sometimes more, sometimes a bit less, but I'm still trying to bring it up overall for when I'd get killed with only getting 1 or 2 kills per life, and sometimes not even that!

And that means what exactly? is it 1 kill and .07 deaths, is that what it is? Sorry, I'm new to the game and I'm not sure how to figure that out

Kills : Deaths is a ratio. It's the same as any ratio (not COD4-specific), like 1 : 2 is the same as 1/2 (half) or 0.5.
So if you have one two kills and one death, your KDR is 2.0.
Anything above 1.0 means you have more kills than deaths, so the number on the left side is greater than the number on the right (or the numerator is greater than the denominator of a fraction).

it's not a fraction 1:2 is a misleading example.
If at the end of a round i have 12 kills and 3 deaths, my ratio would be 12:3, and once you factor it down you would have 4:1. Meaning for every death, I take down 4 people. The goal is to reduce the right number down to 1, so you can find out how many kills you average before you die.
Now if you take your kills (left number) and divide by your deaths, you get a number that should average around 1. Somebody with 1 or greater is a better than average player, anybody under 1 is bellow par.

Uh, how is 1:2 a misleading example? Not every ratio can or should be reduced, you know... Take for example, screen ratios - 4:3, 16:9... You say 4:3, not 1.333333333:1... 1:2 is a valid ratio for someone who dies twice as much as they kill...
Fractions are a specific type of ratio. You will learn this when you get to grade 9 mathematics. Trust me. I've been there, many years ago.

I think mine is probably around 1.25 kills per death right now. I've been boosting it up lately because when I started i was probably getting like .1 kills to each death.

I've been there, many years ago. It's a misleading (not invalid, just bad) example because it maps directly to the value as a fraction which may be confusing to someone who doesn't understand the concept.
Everybody in this thread has given their ratio in relation to 1 death, so if you're going to argue with me telling somebody how they're deriving those numbers I don't know why.
I do appreciate you underestimating my age by about 20 years though.

Go and re-read my post and your first reply, and you'll see that you have your head up your ass.
A ratio of 1:2 "in relation to 1 death" is 0.5, as I fucking said.

1 : 2 is the same as 1/2 (half) or 0.5 is not a good explanation, that's all I'm saying.
Now nobody else cares, so let's stop jacking this thread.

Dude, do you even understand what you're all angry and swearing about? Stats in a video game. Chill out, You're always so confrontational on these forums. Is that why you chose that pic?

0.93. Considering this is the first FPS I've played online against people, I'm pretty proud of that. It's a lot lower than I've recently been doing. Getting the M21 boosted my ratio a lot since I've been getting games of as much as 31:6 kill death ratio.
.....I like sniping a lot.

.....I like sniping a lot. That is impressive. Everybody remembers their good ratios, but over time most people end up at half that. First person shooters have a lot of transferable skill, and if you're close to 1:1 on your first including your ramp up time you're doing all right.

.93 is really friggin good dude for your first online FPS experience. There are alot of crazy skilled players out there who make it hard to do that well when you first try these games online.
I like sniping too :)

Ahem, Math professor here.
Definition: A ratio is a comparison of two quantities using a fraction.
Fact: Any ratio of two whole quantities is a fraction.
Fact: A number can be written as a fraction if and only if has a terminating or repeating decimal expansion.
A ratio of two whole number quantities is a fraction... always.

Now we know.

Mines 2.4 average, but I usually end up having a great game, or a horrible game. There are times I'll go 28:2 and others where I won't do so well, like maybe I barely break even. Usually though, my deaths are lower than my kills. That's my goal going into a match. Because it's not just about getting kills yourself, by not making yourself easy to find/kill, you're denying the enemy kills and thus helping your team win. That's how I look at it anyway.
