I was listening to episode 54 and perked up when the guys were saying they were expecting to see the Wii used in ways they had not expected when it was released. Well, I'm here to tell you that the futar is naow. Behold the following Youtube Videos:
Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw)
Tracking fingers with the Wii Remote (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0awjPUkBXOU&feature=related)
Low-Cost Multi-touch Whiteboard using the Wiimote (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5s5EvhHy7eQ&feature=related)

haha yes! I was thinking the exact same thing, and came on these forums to spread the word on this amazing technology.

I don't own a Wii, but I could see this as being ported as a cheap and fun hardware tool like the guitar hero guitars to other consoles. I cant even imagine how fricken awesome a fixated-path first person shooter such as Time Crisis would be. Or a first person adventure/crawl game like Dungeon Siege. I wonder what other applications head tracking in a 3D environment could bring to gaming other than just First Person type games?!

I'm certain that everyone who watched the videos is wishing for this to be made a reality, and with other 4 million youtube views, it probably will be in the near future.

here is another link to the video http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/149978.html

This also makes me wish the TRS guys would sit down and have a serious, pre-meditated topics and points discussion about gaming ideas and wishs that they have.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm pretty sure the Resident Evil: UC was a rails shooter.

Boom Blox is the first game that will use the head tracking thing.

It is, yup. I found it was pretty cool too.

And the PS3 can also do head-tracking using the PS Eye with a lens filter and IR LEDs on glasses, and there was a technology demoed recently that didn't even require the filter or LEDs. Not that head-tracking is new, it isn't; just it hasn't been put into mass-market games yet, and it'll really add to immersion. I hope to see it at least optionally in many games in the very near future. I dig.

It did occur to me that the whole LED thing seemed a tad unneccesary (although probably more reliable) when face recognition based tracking software is so good these days.

I've heard nothing about that.

This will require a bit more work for the Wii as opposed to the PS3 version. It's still cool either way and will allow for a better experience, especially if you have a group over.

That being said I don't see too much for the Wii beyond Wii fit. I'm just damn tired of the whole "waggle" concept. I would have enjoyed Galaxy a bit more if I didn't have to "waggle" the Wii remote to hit stuff. I love RE4 Wii edition more than my GC version and I loved Zelda. The Wiimote is great for FPS games. The Wii zapper is just stupid.

I don't see the Wii having a long shelf life. I'm guessing the Wii2 will just be an upgraded HD version of the Wii as the Wii is just an upgraded Game Cube with a new controller. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying this is bad. It's just my guess as it works for Nintendo. I just want a hard drive next time and better networking options. And since I'm greedy, Blu-ray would be nice.

What about the Wiimote strap on, any news on when this sate of the art technology will be making it's debut?
