*Sigh* I was excited that you guys finally reviewed The Wire. I was, however, disappointed with Jeff's views on Omar and Bubbles' character. How can a character like Bubbles not be realistic? I was blown away by how realistic he actually was. Have you ever seen a junkie in person? That is almost dead spot on how a junkie acts. From the drueling he did when he was high to the scabs and marks all over his body. What was so unrealistic about him? You never specified. No disrespect, but I highly doubt you grew up anywhere near a section of a city where these type of things took place. If you did, then I retract that statement. But, in my teenage years I grew up in areas like that and saw things like this first hand. I was never a part of it but definitely saw it with my own eyes. Omar's character is definitely realistic. Maybe him being gay was the unrealistic part but his "Robin Hood-esque" qualities are seen all around. They are called "stick up boys." If you are a stick up boy then you are either robbing the crews to get the dope to use or you are robbing to get the money. The ones who do it for the money usually just dispose of the dope or sell it for profit. But his character is definitely realistic. How was it not? I would love to see how you thought these 2 characters were not realistic.
Dan, don't give up on the show. Season 2 gets good but you may not quite see how it ties in until the last 2 minutes of the last episode. But just stick with it. Season 4, IMO, is the best season. Season 5 is right behind because it starts to bring the other 4 seasons together.

They can't please everyone. The fact that they take the users suggestions and actually watch them, then tell what they think should be enough. None of them said it was a horrible show just maybe not their cup of tea.

Dude, did you not read the posts on the forums about the show? I thought Jeff did a wonderful job explaining his feelings towards the show. Next time, you might want to post this under the show thread instead of starting a new forum topic when this is being so much debated on the actual show forum. That way people don't need to jump around to get different points of view. :)
And also, a person does not have to "grow up" around junkies to know about junkies. I am incredibly familiar with junkies but I have met many people who understand junkies a lot better than I ever could and they didn't grow up around them. As for realistic, well, to a point, but they are more the standard characterization of a junkie. I have met more hard core addicts that you would have never guessed were using than one who fits the Hollywood stereotype. Hell, I met a lovely Heroin addict that was quite the overachiever in his career. I was amazed he was still standing given the level of drugs flowing through him, but I guess you would adapt in that situation.

First off, yes, I did see the show thread. I just wanted to get my own thoughts out on this particular subject without getting overshadowed by other people's thoughts and responses. Second, I probably should have clarified more on what I meant junkie. You're right, Ive met people that look completely normal and have high paying jobs and you would never guess that they are high as a kite when you meet them. I was referring to more of the homeless junkie as portrayed by Bubbles.

(Copy and pasties from the other pointless Wire Thread)
I'm just going to throw this out there...
If you guys keep beating up Jeff every time he disagrees with you you're going to make him not want to be honest with his opinion. This was talked about in the episode thread to death and now here it is again.
Debate 101: You cannot argue the rightness or wrongness of an opinion.
Leave Jeff alone, he doesn't hate The Wire... he just doesn't love it.
Move on.

Am I not aloud to voice my own opinions? I have nothing against Jeff whatsoever. I love the show and have been watching since episode 1. Im not beating him up at all. I just wished he would have elaborated on why he thought Omar and Bubbles' characters were unrealistic. Ive been looking forward to them doing a Wire review on the show forever. It's just a forum guys and no need to attack people for voicing their own opinions. If Jeff feels that I attacked him then I apologize because I did not intend it to be that way. I'm sure he is professional enough to not to take anything I, or anyone says, personally. I highly doubt he will lie about his opinions just to please us viewers. That would hurt the credibility of the show.

Of course you are allowed to voice your opinions. I guess the issue is that that there are two new threads made that go into large detail about something already debated about in another thread. It isn't a matter that your opinion is not allowed, I guess for me it seems a little odd because it comes across that you do think your opinion is right and others, including Jeff, are wrong. Otherwise, why would you feel the need to start a new thread? You stated you didn't want your opinion overshadowed and that is why it comes across in this manner. It might not be your intent, but nonetheless, that is probably why people are getting defensive. Because following the logic, it implies some peoples opinions are more valid than others.

GraphicsG33k, please read my posts in the show discussion thread. I address this issue specifically there.

P.S.
Don't forget I said a DO like the Wire, very, very much. It is an excellent show! I rank it just below Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The West Wing, and one other show I'm forgetting...

When will people read the threads (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16798) before creating duplicate topics ...
