This is my first post but I have been listening to TRS for month's now. I gotta say I was a little disappointed by there review only because they kept saying that it felt like it couldn't be real and it was made very hollywood, but none of them read the book which its all based on.

In the book they did get beat up, they did change to different people, they did try different languages and try different things. Whether the book is true or not is a different story. It just bothers me that they were so quick to assume that these things didn't happen without actually fact checking.

These guys seem to be unprepared for a lot of things.
I personally am very angry that the hosts of a (part) video game show don't even have PSPs. They should buy all video game platforms, or at least make Rev3 buy the platforms for them.

It's been pretty obvious from some of the things happening on the show that there isn't a huge budget for the show yet. It is largely as cool as it is because it's such a labor of love for the guys and they are willing to devout so much of their time toward it, especially Steve.

Many of the things are funded by the guys themselves, and I can tell you from first hand experience that spending cash on video games, movies and comics can burn through disposable income pretty quickly. It would be great if they could have a PSP, but it is a decently significant expense.

As for the review, in an ideal world they would have read the book before the review, but that can't happen for every movie they see, especially one that they aren't particularly excited about seeing. I read the same story in Wired that Jeff did, and it didn't give any indication that they'd suffered the kind of beating portrayed in the film. They were voicing the same thoughts that many of us who went out and saw the film were already thinking, and the conversations they have aren't unlike those I have with my friends. When we have these conversations we haven't researched everything beforehand to make sure everything we say is correct and fact checked. Much of the charm of this show is that they are friends, getting together and having a good time while they discuss things they like to talk about.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie. I know me and the guys are not alone in our opinion that the story felt hollywood-ized-- even the author of the book expressed this sentiment!

To be honest I thought the movie sucked. There were things that they did to make the movie "hollywood" which is more on track with what Jeff was saying about them having sterotypical people like the fat kid acting fatty and such. Those charachters didn't exist in the book.

Basically all of Jeff's complaints for the most part were completely valid, but all of Alex's complaints were completely off the mark and inaccurate. The complaints that Alex had seemed to be about things being unbelievable and those things were actually the accurate things. The things that Jeff was complaining about were the things that were added and fake and unreal.

There was a ton of stuff that happened in the book that was even more out there then they had in the movie which is why I was disappointed in the TRS review. I don't think you should have to read a book to review a movie, but if your going to claim that the things that take place in the movie are to ridiculous to have happened then maybe you should look it up first.

While I loved your reviews before I feel like I now have to take all of them with a grain of salt.

I still love the reviews. even with my grain of salt.

since no reviwer will ever always match what i think, thats the point of multiple reviewers on a show IMO.

Did just see run fatboy run an i loved it. even if the bro's didnt.

There's something to be said here about the difference between something FEELING true and being true. A lot has been said about this in regards to The Shield and The Wire in other threads and it seems to be apparent here.

Because, ironically, that "fat-friend" character actually felt very true to me while the Laurence Fishburn character didn't. In reality, fishburne was based on a person in the book and the friend was not (even though the screenwriters did base the main characters friends on actual students at M.I.T.). And this is completely subjective. There may have even been things you read in the book that felt honest to you that were in fact fabrications. The book claimed that the team was mostly asian students-- but in reality that wasn't the case. I encourage anyone further interested in this to check out creative screenwriting podcasts interview with the writers and producer...

...I think the point I am trying to make is that we confessed on the show to not reading the book (though had read things about the book and film) so what we were commenting on was how the movie FELT-- and that has to do with the filmmaking not with the fact...

I saw 21 and I basically could have gone on with my day not seeing the movie at all. It didn't really grab a hold of me and I found it quite boring to watch. Felt like there was more than one movie going on at once which was weird. Oddly enough I saw 21 on my 21st birthday, coincidence? haha.

Side note, the soundtrack for the film is quite good though, love that remix of The Rolling Stones "You can't always get what you want" done for the film it's good.
