Awesome!! @Bonez: Yeah I was screaming a lot too, had a sore throat this morning. :/

Alex definitely had a lot to drink, he was pretty lit up after the show and at the bar later, but it's all in good fun eh?

I'm watching it now...the reverb is really bad. :( It reminds me of the reverb bug in Half-Life...

Great show, worst audience out of all the live shows. Then again that isn't saying much, most audiences are bad.

What's up with the over exposed video and audio thats maxing out? The live stream looked perfect (exposure wise) and the audio was just fine.

To me it seemed that Kevin n Alex were more than the usual uncomfortable with live audience.... and the audience didn't understand the jokes that well .

Can anyone out there find a video link to Kevin's

presentation?

The show was great.
My fav part was the hot guy offering splifs
that were *tobacco*

Yes, Alex, the small pockets are for splifs.

I SORT of agree with you. Alex seemed very comfortable (then again he was pretty messed up). Kevin seemed uncomfortable and awkward at times. I think his parents may have been watching (he asked if Alexs parents were watching). Maybe he didn't want to act to crazy with mom and dad watching.

Another thing I have noticed from other shows, that Alex says something funny and Kevin ignores him , kinda cold, and I start thinking maybe they don't get along that well as before, thats sad. The beginning of the end?????

Announcing on April 1st that the show in Amsterdam would stream live, seemed like a trick. I missed it because it seemed like a trick.

Awesome episode!

I have to agree with the person that said the audience was bad.
REALLY BAD! On the other hand, most of jokes were "American".

In holland they're taught "English-UK".

I really enjoy it. I'll probably go to the next web 09. Even though I'm no web-developer, I could probably get a few ideas.

bonez
04-05-2008, 03:07 PM
Hmm ok let me first start off by saying.. it's strange to see myself dealing weed. Sshh guys keep it on the downlow.. last thing i need is being the most famous weed supplier on the interweb :D

And about the crowd i think "Bani-Banan" said it best although the true diggnation fans in the crowed understand "american" jokes, the 50 to 60 % of the crowed that where just regular thenextweb attenders just didnt understand the concept of the show let alone the kind of jokes (btw keep in mind this is the first live diggnation *with a crowd* outside of an English speaking country).

I mean for god's sake there was a woman behind me yelling boo because they where promoting drinking beer .. yelling " you guys are role models .. blabla"
although i shut her up by i guess tipping her "preverbrial" scale when i brought Kevin and Alex some of the good stuff, you can understand the disconnect.

That being said the show was still awesome meeting all the top rev3 people and just the other fans.. really super fun!

Keep drinkin

I really think the guys were on the top of their game. Especially Alex was fucking funny in this episode.

Another thing: I live in Denmark, and when the whole "topless at public pools" was happening my first thought was "This is so gonna get on diggnation".

I must say, there are times when I'm watching digg at work and I just start laughing at something. Keep in mind I am in a library walking around with headphones on. I likely look like a freaking maniac who just starts laughing uncontrollably. This happened with this episode when Alex was talking about the table humping. Just ridiculous.

I registered just to say I was extremely let down by Kevin and Alex's failure to meet the self imposed mustache challenge. I know I'll probably get flamed for this but I was disgusted by their weakness. Grow mustaches you pansies or I can never respect you again. What are you scared of mustaches?

Yeah, I guess that's the problem. Most people there probably saw it on the end of the programme at thenextweb and decided to see what it was about... and probably got a shock... Particularly as I think this episode probably has more drug references than any other... This was a crazy show... When I was watching the live stream I couldn't believe how crazy it was...

Kevin called me an ass (ep69) and to show my gratitude I offered him some herbal spices (ep144)...just noticed in your sig there the link to episode 69, so I just watched it, and they said "we do not support or condone drugs in any way" (alex laughed) which only makes it funnier what you did during the live show... heh

this trend with live chat- streaming is a good idea, maybe some other shows too like internet superstar or just rotate between all the shows. (i mean really live shows not taped)

i really dont see that many chatting in there otherwise, it was filled up with at least 70 or so people in there during the live stream, just got laggy for a while ,it needs some more code to handle that many people.

My 2 cents....

* It was pointed out that Kevin seemed to totally ignore Alex's funny comments a lot of times. This is nothing new. Watch any episode from the last year, and you'll notice that Kevin is often completely absorbed into whatever he's looking at on his laptop and seems to have no clue whatsoever that there are other people in the room (or that he's doing a webcast).

* I highly doubt that "my parents might be watching" figured into anything that was said or not said on the show. Fact is, as a parent, you take an interest in what your kids do from time-to-time, even if they're grown and have their own webcast show. I think both Kevin and Alex have both come to terms with the fact that mom and dad will occasionally watch a random episode here or there. The "My folks might be watching" is an equally possible scenario for ANY episode they do.

* When Alex went into the German accent monologue, all I could do was think of was Dr. Hassenphefer from Ctrl+Alt+Chicken and lament the "hiatus" of that show. ::sigh::

* Overall, I think all the live shows have been below average. Sure, I bet it's a hoot of a time for the people that are actually there, but as a broadcast show, that excitement just doesn't translate well to the home viewer. For us, it's a bunch of not-so-great audio for a show that's awkward and doesn't flow well because of all the audience-driven interruptions. However, I'll be the first to admit that the "table sex" story wouldn't have been NEARLY as funny if Alex hadn't have had a live audience to play off of.

* And I'll just go ahead and say it. There are actually people out there (I know I'm not alone on this) that find weed to be a real turn-off. I know it's a part of the personal culture a lot of people have chosen for themselves, but frankly, it's not what Diggnation is about, and I don't want to see that crap. Cover some Digg stories, drink some beer, have some witty banter, entertain me. Leave the pot off the show. It's one of those things where it's only cool to the already converted. I'd bet my left nut that there just aren't a lot of non-pot smokers watching Diggnation that say, "Y'know what would be great? If there were joints in this episode." It's only cool to the people that already smoke pot and need to use it's appearance to justify their own decision in life to be a pot smoker.

You have to take into consideration that they were in Amsterdam. It's not like there are weekly drug references. If they didn't mention ANYTHING about it on the Amsterdam episode, it would seem like they were purposely avoiding the topic.

And I never thought during this episode that they were trying to force it on anyone or make the show about pot. In fact, they quickly put away their "gifts" and moved on.

I would understand your argument if you were also against them drinking beer, but you specifically stated that's what you expected in a Diggnation episode. Accepting alcohol consumption but shunning the smoking of cannabis seems largely hypocritical.

And if the argument is one of legality, I've never once seen a complaint about the guys talking about pirating software...

04-07-2008, 04:51 PM
yeah, but I too find it a little crazy, I mean, maybe it's just since I saw the "is kevin rose a weed smoker thread and noticed it more, but there have been more refferences to it recently, (partucularly 143, where kevin was trying to avoid the topic, and Alex kept it going "we're going to light that show up" heh,

I don't know, but the weed references do me me feel kinda edgy as a non-smoker...

also I think Alex is almost trying too hard to imply weed references.. looking back on some of them in the past, Alex keeps it at the same minimal level kevin does, but the last couple of episodes he's been almost trying too hard... maybe he's just started smoking the stuff... I don't know... and Kevin keeps reffering to the rev3 no drugs policy...

I was frustrated with the live stream, enough that I gave up, and watched it when they released it on iTunes. I'm assuming it was the different stream they used, but it looks like they didn't have any choice in the matter.

I'm a little curious if anyone has come up with (and submitted) and great domains/ideas for the goDaddy contest they mentioned (http://revision3.com/contest/)? The "official" prize seemed to be 1 year of free shared hosting from goDaddy, which I'm not interested in, but getting a site plugged on Diggnation could be a real boost. I wonder what their audience numbers are like?

Don't like it, don't watch it. It's pretty simple. Alex and Kevin are adults who are capable of making their own decisions, much like you can make your own decision on whether or not to watch the content they are providing to you.

Also lol @ you being ok with them drinking and harming themselves for your entertainment, but cannabis is a no no according to you.

And double lol @ you watching a live show from AMSTERDAM and being upset when there are cannabis references.

somewhat in relation to the weed thing... I was a little upset with the numerous people that came up on stage with them. Seriously, they need security or something.

Ahem.

As the starter of the "Kevin and Weed" thread, I'd just like to say...

Heh.

Great episode though, all those moments of Kevin being absorbed in his laptop just come across as funny to me, just one of those little Kevin moments, nothing like offensive. Funny shit.

Ye, we could make a discussion out of this but...
I live in Holland, almost all my friends smoke weed, and i don't.
I have no issues whit this, i don't see the problem.

I loved the show, and who cares if Alex smoked it or not, the action was great, and almost every one was thinking it.
"I hope something funny whit weed happened, they are in Holland after all"

I agree, great effing show! These guys are awesome live; they are mirrors for the great energy in the crowd.

Quickly - the contest they announced is cool, and I happen to have a URL I am going to launch a site with this summer. I am perplexed however, at how they will judge them since there was no field to explain what you will do with your URL. The sheer genius of any double meaning could be easily lost without any supporting explaination.

guys? It was part of the plug, but there's no form field on the website...

Was definitely a fan of the episode. I hear some of the people talking about the crowd maybe not getting into it, but Kevin and Alex were definitely still doing their thing. Great episode for sure.

And the weed reference? Who cares? I'm pretty sure they were in Amsterdam.

Sorry to say it, but complaining about the presence of weed in a show shot in Amsterdam is like complaining about a American movie with hamburgers in it.

The guys didn't light up, so what's the big deal? Actually, they explain here why: http://www.campus.tv/index.php?action=showmovie&movieid=1177

I loved the show, and didn't notice anything about a bad audience. I think we we're all pretty amused by the two.

But in the end, English speakers shouldn't complain about other people's lack of the English knowledge. A Dutch crowd is about the best English-speaking crowd you can get in the world, of people that don't have it as their first language.

In Holland we may be taught UK-English (the "original") in school, but almost everyone in the Netherlands uses an American accent because almost all tv programs are American. We don't dub over the audio like the Germans. Real Diggnation fans got all the jokes, the ones that didn't were just people from the conference that didn't understand what the show was about. I still loved the fact that the guys came to my home town! Wished they would've lit up on stage though.....

Whatever:
I don't smoke, it was funny though... I would've done it... It's Amsterdam for pete's sake.

With that, I was in the audience, along with my BF, and we were sitting halfway/to the back: The sound was bad... I've lived and worked in the US more than once, so I have no trouble understanding... But I just couldn't hear what they said half of the time...

The interruptions were annoying, the weed was fun... Leaving was weird... Maybe it was my haircolor... :D
