Post your favorite local bars here. My personal favorite bar is Jack's @ the Cannery (http://www.yelp.com/biz/jacks-cannery-bar-san-francisco).

My local is this place called Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grill. They have something there called "mozzarella sticks" that are just amazing. Check it out if you're ever in San Francisco. I think Jack Kerouac and those guys used to hang out there.

That's crazy talk. Applebee's is in MY TOWN. Not some scummy place like San Francisco.

Oh, you mean LOL'd and ROFL'd! Man, I was confused there, hadn't seen those words in so long...

I have many favorites here in St Louis. If I had to pick just a few, I'd say:
Seamus McDaniels (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=seamus+mcdaniels&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hl=en&sll=37.062500,-95.677068&sspn=23.875000,57.630033&latlng=38628243,-90292920,13774336156903593175&ei=V0v6R5vlJo6yjgHL4dCoCg&sig2=Cqc7fUOwbiJPj4XyBgHfoA&cd=1) - Great Irish pub, great food, perfect for a Friday lunch when you can get away with coming back to the office with a buzz. In fact, RadZack, IHeartYourMom, Hatchet, and I just met up there a few days ago.
Schlafly Bottleworks and Tap Room (http://www.schlafly.com/) I think it's safe to say that Schlafly is the second largest brewer around here (the first being Anheuser-Busch). Some Diggnation fans might remember the Tap Room as the bar we went to after the live show (where Shwood, of course, showed some of his skillz). I kinda prefer the Bottleworks because it's a 5 minute walk from my house. Schlafly brews a lot of great beers, and the food's pretty good, too.

Gonna be taking the show on the road to some of our suggestions?

Harry's Bar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry's_Bar) - a favourite hangout of Ernest Hemingway, and also popular with Guglielmo Marconi, Charlie Chaplin, Truman Capote, and Orson Welles.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3005/2396255209_8a71c2c8f0_m.jpg

Known for serving the most expensive grilled ham and cheese sandwich on earth (about US$30 ... and worth every cent), and inventing the Bellini.

The Hofbrauhaus (http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/) in Munich is also very cool.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2338/2396256097_2f9b1cb780_m.jpg

OK, so neither of them are local to me, but they are local to someone right?

Yeah, I feel kinda dirty admitting this, but here in Austin, TX I'm sorta between home bars. I've been hitting up sherlock's at burnet and 183, but with it being a chain establishment... it just seem like some kind of venial sin to make that my home bar.

If anyone has a suggestion for a more independent bar to hit up in Austin, I'm all ears.

Its a little far from you but The Ale House Pub and Eatery (http://www.alehousepub.com/) in Tacoma, WA is my place. I love it. I look forward to doing the human chimney trick once im better at it, although I'll probably have to do it outside due to the no smoking law.

I have too many places where I was local as well. First was Gaspurys' in Albany, NY. Great place, been around for 50 years. Me, my brother and friend for about 15 years used to go there many nights a week. College crowd, underage some of them. Drank for free cause the bartender became a friend of a cousin. We even tried to make him charge us as he would get in trouble. He said,"Nah, I am ripping off the guy next to you." So we would go there and move on to the best strip club in town after we were ripped. Coulda been 3 of us or up to 20. The bartender was such a good friend he even went to my Mothers' funeral, years after the place shut down.

Then after they closed cause of many family issues among the owners, we moved on. I even tried to buy the place. Keep the name, the legacy, everything. The family was so messed up they refused.

Then to My Place. Not my home, the joint was called My Place & co. Another great place. Great owners, bartenders, client el. Even the head cook. Great kid. Didn't even drink. He died in a motor cycle accident. Horrible too. Going too fast maybe out of a tunnel, misjudged the ramp and hit it. Fell 60 feet to his death. Next person on the ramp saw the rider-less bike.

Also where I stopped going out. Should have earlier. As I, same brother and friend had shared 24 pitchers and 10 shots a piece, one Sunday. (10 people kept the round of shots going. We had to take'em.) Still drove home. Not good. The Bartender that day told us the next week he was scared one of us would have died from the alcohol or driving. Also one guy took a joke too far and had eventually slapped me in the head ten times. When I got sick of it, I told him to stop or I'd start to hit him back till I got tired of hearing him cry. He didn't take it well, spread the word around town that I was bullying him.

Then in front of my Father. My Father even said, "Why didn't you take him outside and show him what's what?" He said, "Well he is a big guy." My Father replied, "Well shut the hell up before you piss him off then." That was never a reputation I tried to gain or wanted. So that was it for me. I am a goof, not a brawler.

I had fun in the mean time though. Just make sure you do it safely. More safe than myself.

When I lived in springfield MO, it was Uncle Bentleys or Tommy Leo's. Now that I'm in Columbus, I have yet to find one. Me and my brother were looking for one in Toledo OH where he lives. We ended up at the American Legion Hall (he's a marine) and I must say it kicked ass. Its my 'home bar' away from home.

My favorite bar in the world is the Ballydoyle Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downers Grove, IL (West suburb of Chicago). Great atmosphere, good food, decent prices. Only thing that kinda sucks is there's an "event" every night of the week. Either a band or pub quiz or open mic night. But other than that, it's perfect.

I liked Bar None quite a bit. Before we went, there was talk that it had a "frat boy" reputation, but I thought it was a pretty fun place. (of course, my mind was largely on shooting the episodes).

Besides, they have beer pong in the back... how can you go wrong with that?

Just moved to Las Vegas this week and am still getting familiar with my surroundings, however Yard House on the top of my list for bars, 150 beers on tap, a great menu, and a nice vibe.

Anyone have some places in vegas I should check out?

Pazzo's (http://pazzospizzapub.com/). Not really a bar since I am not a bar going person (too expensive). Good pizza, great beer selection. Pint Night is a fun adventure. They serve a pitcher of something special and serve 2 pub glasses from that brewery for usually $10-14 total. Its the closest I get to going out to a bar. My kind of thing: relaxing, good libations, and good conversation.

If you guys ever find yourselfs this side of the Atlantic and in London, come over to Aldgate (East London) and go to the Peacock on a road called Minories. It's a great pub and serves great drinks - I'd suggest asking for a north sea oil, but its not for lightweights ;)

My first post here, the topic inspired me to join the discussion.

I'm not 21 yet (and haven't managed to pull off Brian's 'hypothetical' driver's license scam) but by far my favorite bar in my hometown of Richmond VA is called FALLOUT.

It's a fallout shelter themed bar and dance club, and includes such delights as a glass case hollding a chainsaw and a plaque saying 'In case of Zombie attack, break glass.

I'm not big on bars since I have to watch what I eat and drink carefully due to diabetes, however I allow myself to indulge once a month for guys night out when we go to watch UFC fights.

Here in AZ my favorite place is Buffalo Wild Wings. Great food and Guinness Stout, you can't go wrong.

Back in NJ where I am originally from I would have to say the best bar by far is the Great Notch in. Jagermeister shots for $1.00. And of course I must mention Rut's Hut. The place for the best hot dogs and cold beer in the US.

I would like to nominate "taverns in ratio to local population" I live in a tourist town that has a population of under two thousand people. Yet we have fourteen liquor licensees and over 30 point of purchase bars. Canadians, Ohio, PA, bring'm on. All research must be done in person, contact me direct. Try Balloons or the Depot or Madigans. Double Diamond is last.

The tavern business must never die.

It's been about 6 years since I've been in NYC, but I really liked the Peculiar Pub in the West Village.

In Pittsburgh PA though, I used to regular at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. Kind of upscale place. The only problem are the 'beer snobs' that tend to hang out there. For example, one case of Budweiser (or Coors or anyother 'popular' beer for that matter) used to last them a month easy. Another bonus, Nitro Drafts! I stopped going though when they banned smoking.

From there I started going to the Bottleshop Cafe. More friendly laid back place from Sharp Edge. Cheaper and just as large (if not larger) selection. It's more of a sports themed bar, but that's easily ignored.

I prefer neighborhood/corner/mom&pop bars... rarely a "dresscode".. can arrive right from the jobsite in jeans and a T-shirt... wash UR hands, get a pitcher, and enjoy.

I agree. And a much more "entertaining" clientele too.
