Hey there folks...

Just got some news today. My band's lead singer quit the band today.

I was kinda peeved because we really bent over backwards to accommodate certain things that he wanted us to do to make it easier for him. But, it seemed like no matter what we did, he wasn't able to write lyrics anymore. Finally he told us today that he was quitting.

The rest of us figured out what the underlying problem was. Our style was changing a bit, where we wrote more stuff with melody for him to sing to (which he really wanted us to do), and he found it more difficult to write to than our older stuff. It was like a catch-22 for us. If we wrote something like we used to, he could write lyrics to it, but he'd complain that he wanted more singing parts. So, we'd write stuff to be sung to, and he couldn't write lyrics or find the right melodies.

Either way, he decided to leave the band and we're left looking for someone to become part of the band.

If any of you (or anyone you know) are located in the NJ/Philly area, are into heavy music (but open minded), and can sing as well as scream and growl, PM me.

Also, if you've had band troubles before, feel free to talk about it in this thread. I'll be posting a copy in the XLR8R forums as well.

I guess that sucks.

The band I was in couldn't decide what they wanted to play one wanted horror punk, and another wanted classic rock, another wanted grunge, me, I wanted to play metal. So I quit caring and really quit hanging out with them. I really disliking screaming in metal, grunting and growling is another thing though. :D

Screaming and growling is fun. Too bad I'm in butt nowhere...oh, and I can't really sing, haha. Hope you find a new singer though. Good luck.

I'd volunteer but I don't have much for a screaming voice...

screaming and growling is going to evetually destroy any real singing voice so you are asking for someone willing to endanger any real singing voice they might have

sometimes it is easier to write the lyrics first then the melody chords etc.

bands almost always have toubles so don't take it personally

Anyone who has heard Arch Enemy or Otep would disagree about the female won't do thing.

Plenty of female metal singers, like Karyn Crisis and even The Great Kat

My voice is softer and too classical for rock. :(

I see that and I raise you Tarja Turunen (ex-Nightwish) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwJ3MD0rIVA).

You should check out Melissa Cross. She's a vocal instructor who teaches specifically how to be a screamer AND a singer without destroying your vocal cords. She's helped a lot of bands out there, showing them how to sing properly. She's pretty famous too.

@Xibalba

Dude, nothing's worse than when a band can't put aside their different tastes in music and somehow combine the influences to make something good. Hopefully, if you're still going to get that keyboard, you can find yourself another band to jam with.

Also, thanks for linking to my band's Myspace. I should've thought to do that!!

@Tokenuser and mods

Thanks for permission and combining the threads. Muchly appreciated.

@ everyone else...

I'm not adverse to a woman singer. I've seen other bands with women singers before that rocked my socks off. Of course, we'll go with the person who's the best fit for the band.

Keep any suggestions coming!!

I think I will do a one man band hah. I will use Reason and some other software.

If ya were to post it some might have considered it spam but since I did, it is less spamish since I have nothing to do with your band.

my vocal teacher trained and performed at la scala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Scala)

i was invited to audition for the metroplitan opera (i don't have that kind of stamina)

for serious singing screaming is about the worst thing you can do

but you are looking for something different

good luck :)
