mythtv comm skip and transcode

I finally got Mythtv installed and configured and recording my shows. I guess this is really a to question maybe someone here can answer for me.

As the topic says. It's recording even though I told the scheduled show to record and it's not commercial skipping. Did I miss something?

Also transcoding I have transcode installed but it's not doing that either.

In the recording options, did you select Commercial skip? By default it is off I think. You can change the default in the setup section.
There is also an option that enables the Comm skip during playback that you may have to enable also. When you bring up the on-screen display, the option is there, and I think setup may allow you to always have it on.
