When walking downtown checking out the bars there's always a ton of people outside smoking, I'd love to see what you could come up with as far as lighter tricks go. This would be a great pool of people to scam not only inside the bar, but drawing attention outside as well.

hmm... I know a couple of lighter tricks, but they're pretty dangerous...
I suppose we could teach people to open a beer with a lighter (ever seen that one? If you don't have a bottle opener around?)

I used to use a Bic lighter as my bottle opener, period. Just easier that way.
Although it just doesn't really work with Coronas. Just eats your lighter.
I think maybe Zippo tricks is the best kind of "lighter trick"
There's one you can do that isn't completely amazing, but it if you move fast, it looks pretty slick.
Hold the Zippo between your thumb and index/middle finger, thumb on the bottom, fingers on the top, with the hinge facing your ring finger. Now squeeze the lighter between your thumb and fingers, so that your fingers begin to slide off of the top.
If you apply the right amount of pressure, when your fingers slide off, the lid will fly open, and you'll be holding the lighter by the sides now.
Apply a cool way of lighting it (snap your fingers on the flint or slash it across your jeans), and you just might look impressive.
Or just like a dork trying to impress people.

I haven't seen the beer bottle opener, but maybe the lighter tricks are too much if its gonna be dangerous...hmm back to the drawing board. Just thinking of things that would be easy to carry around or find in pockets to use.

There are a million zippo tricks out there, they're all just flash and dazzle with no real use.

I've seen some *really* wicked Zippo tricks- they definitely got my attention real fast.
Opening a beer with a lighter could be cool. I hate ordering a Sam Adams and then they forget to pop the top :o

If we get a decent collection of small lighter bits together, we can do an medley episode and call it "stupid lighter tricks" or something...
Maybe if we all kick in a few ideas we'll find enough gems.

Opening a beer with a lighter could be cool. I hate ordering a Sam Adams and then they forget to pop the top :oI don't smoke - so don't carry a lighter. I *am* Australian though, so I have a milled aluminium bottle opener on my keyring, but for those times when there aren't bottle openers around every beer drinker should know how to open a bottle on a table edge or a door hinge.
Brian - not really a lighter trick, but do you have any creative ways to open a bottle?

Dude, he taught us how to inhale sulfur in the first episode! We fear nothing!

I say stick to the more clever lighter tricks. The zippo artistry is awesome, but there is nothing hidden in the tricks, or anything that makes you go "how'd they do that?" (besides practice).

The trick where you take the flame away, then make it reappear (by bending the wick), is SO quick and easy to do, but it also has an amazing effect. People are blown away and it only took me 3 seconds to set up. I even got it to work my first time doing it.

What kind of bottles do you guys have in the US?
Maybe it's a european thing, but I don't really think that's a trick.
Opening beer-bottles with your teeth (which I do, unfortunately) is a trick but with lighters... oh well.
