I've already thrown this question at Josh and the other iFanboy presenters. Unfortunatly they were unable to answer it.

Ok, i quite like Dave Mckean. He's not my fave artist but I appreciate his a talent.

I was checking out some "artist turned writer" books and noticed he'd released a Graphic Novel called Cages. Originally published as separate issues in the nineties and now a hardback edition. It's had two printings and it's now out of print. It pops up on ebay and amazon from time to time but it's quite expensive. The reviews on amazon are very positive and it placed 46th in Comic Journals Top 100 of the last century...but before I splash out on it I thought I might seek some reader reviews from people who really know what they're talking about...

That's you lot, iFanboys!

So, Have you read it and is it worth paying $100+ for it?

'Cages' was one of the first GNs I bought back in the day, and I've never regretted it. It's a big old book that showcases all of McKeans talents, both as a painter, a photographer, a penciller and a designer. The book is full of loveable, interesting characters that you will grow to love, and tells a bunch of stories that revolve around creativity, art and religion. Not all the stories are completely succesfull, but the good ones more than make up for that. And there are more good stories than bad. And the art is just beautifull, the best McKean has ever done. It's totally worth buying the book for the art alone. I'd say go ahead and get it!

I have all the original issues that were released. I loved that book. It's offbeat and McKean doesn't have quite the masterful style of a Gaiman -- but it's an interesting and very beautiful book.

Is it worth $100? That's really tough to say. It depends -- $100 means different things to different people.
