Nintendo News: Wii Fit to Keep Americans Moving at $89.99 MSRP

In anticipation of the U.S. launch of Wii Fit™, the new interactive fitness game for the popular Wii™ system, Nintendo of America Inc. has announced pricing details for this groundbreaking release. Available at Nintendo World store starting on May 19, Wii Fit and the innovative Wii Balance Board™ accessory will be bundled and sold together at a suggested retail price of $89.99.

Boasting a dynamic mix of more than 40 yoga, aerobics, strength training and balance activities, Wii Fit provides consumers with a fun, easy and affordable way to incorporate exercise into their daily routines. Using the included wireless Wii Balance Board accessory, every member of the household can step up and stay active, setting individual fitness goals and tracking their progress over time.

Consumers in the New York area who pre-order Wii Fit from the Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Plaza will receive a special bonus item. From April 18-20, the first 1,000 consumers who place a $5 deposit for Wii Fit will receive a limited edition Wii Fit T-shirt featuring the image and reproduced autograph of legendary Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto.

Through mid-February, Wii Fit had sold more than 1.4 million copies in Japan since its Dec. 1, 2007 launch. For more information about Wii Fit, please visit www.WiiFit.com or contact:

That's a way better price than the UK which is £69.99, but I guess 17.5% of that is tax, so it's a much fairer price than Rock Band.

Also, here's a great preview from IGN here:

I have this on pre-order, but who else is joining me? I'm assuming the guys will discuss this as it would make an awesome segment on the show watching them fool around with it.

I'm waiting...

It looks neat and everything but I can't help but feel like its "NES: Track and Field" all over again. I mean that was groundbreaking and cool... but the novelty worn off and no other games used it.

So I'll give it a year out in the wild and see if it lives up to the hype, so let me know whatcha think.

I have mine on pre-order as well, and I can't wait. Hopefully this will be a fun way to finally get me to start exercising - I have a wedding to attend in November and I've been kind of half-assed trying to lose weight, but I need to get a move on!

You know, I really want this but I can't justify spending that much on it yet. I am going to wait and try one out for myself, if it is indeed totally rad then I will be getting it.

There are already 10 games in development for it, including the soon to be released We Ski, which looks fantastic!

That'll be We Cheer and as far as I'm aware it doesn't use the balance board.

Ah, you're right.. Since I don't really care about Wii Fit or the Balance Board, I guess I read that news article (http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/03/23/were-not-cheering-for-we-cheer/) too quickly... I thought it said it was using the Balance Board, but apparently that is just wishful thinking.

Ah well, what could have been!

I think I heard somewhere Tony Hawk or SSX might be made for the board...I would hope that to be true.

I can't wait til they release a Home Sobriety Test that incorporates the Wii Balance Board. That's gonna be awesome. I hereby entitle the game: "DWii".

So I hooked Wii Fit up to the projector at work this lunchtime and went through the basic fitness assessment and then played the football heading mini-game. I have to admit, it was bloody good fun, even in the small dose I had and it already made me want to hop on every day to see how things have changed. Can't wait to try the rest of it out later.
