"Good Eats" is the shit. I'm compressing the entire series to DiVX to use as a video-cookbook.
I also like "Everyday Italian" (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ei) because it's so damn sexy....

I had the world's most expensive sandwich and fruit juice in Venice because of a special that Giada had on touring through Italy.

Grilled (actually pan fried in olive oil) parma and cheese sandwich, with Peach Bellini at Harry's Bar.
Giada has a great show, but Mario Batali is a better chef.
BTW - I also watch Iron Chef ... and actually like Iron Chef America. Tonight's episode will be good - Flay/DeLaurentiis vs. Batali/Ray. (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ia/episode/0,1976,FOOD_16696_46737,00.html)

Not on the Food Network, but "Gordon Ramsey's F Word" on BBC America (Sunday 9pm) isn't bad.

She can come over to my place and start trying to speak in Italian any time she wants... if her husband doesn't mind...

She pronounces it how it is supposed to be pronounced - without the "T" that seems to slip in when Americans call it MoTzarella.

She does that funny thing with here tongue... when she pronounces the "rella".All the Italian girls I knew did that funny thing with their tongue ... :)
I think the biggest problem is that so many Italian and Spanish words have similar character groupings involved, so the pronounciation get sortof corrupted to be a mash of both. I suspect this was because of the Italian/Puerto Rican influence in NYC.
I can't fault the way she says things - sounds like the Italians I met in Italy, and like the ones we have in Australia.

I have, on occasion, used Good Eats as a sort of video cookbook. I just tivo/pause through the episode while cooking dinner.
Haven't been disappointed yet.
Alton Brown appeals to my nerdy/technical/detailed personality.

You're right about Mario. You gotta trust that a guy that big is makin' some killer food. There is a TV chef in Australia called Iain "Huey" Hewitson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Hewitson), and he says "Never trust a skinny cook". I trust Mario ... but could never trust Bobby Flay.
AB is a god, and not really a chef (despite graduating from the New England Culinary Institute), and since he treats food as science, you know he has to be trusted.

Being from that neck of the woods (Montpelier, VT). I've eaten at the NECI resturants. Hell, NECI trained chefs catered my wedding reception. they make some great food.

I love "Good Eats", Molto Mario, Unwrapped, and I sometimes watch "Road Tasted" to see where they go.
Rachael Ray is a fine piece of work. I can stare at her forever, but, I don't really like watching her show, for the content that is.
Another show I like to watch is "Starvin with lou" at www.starvinwithlouis.com. He is awsome and makes a feast out of nothing. They too however, have a hard time putting more episodes out.

Yes I dont know...Its like every other word except for the ones of Italian origin she pronounces with the most American accent but then puts an Italian accent on the Italian ones. It just pisses me off. Haha. Its kind of like the woman at the Mexican restaurant who asks for no sour cream but later proceeds to ask for a side of sour cream.
Just want to slap a *****...

I don't really watch any shows in particular, but I will stop on the Food Network from time to time and watch for awhile. Usually Emeril and Iron Chef. OK, and the occasional Rachel Ray too.

Well, Iron Chef, both the Japanese and American, with the Japanese first.
I enjoy "Restaurant Makeover", which is on food network Canada,
anything by Nigella Lawson
sometimes I just enjoy whatever is on.

I like Good Eats as well. Alton Brown explains things. Why things happen in recipies. That is great for me as I like to over analyse everything.
I have watched Emeril for years.
Bobby Flay is a grill god. I have watched him since "Grillin' and Chillin'". Awsome on the grill.
Rachael Ray is top on the list too she comes from my local area. I love her roots and her using them. She deserves every success.
Giada DeLaurentis (sp) is just incredibly beautiful. I do respect what she makes but can't pay enough attention to the food to remember how she makes it.
Paula Dean is great as well. I have tried a lot of her recipies and they are flawless. Especially the simple ingredients. Check out yellow mustard marinated catfish. Or her Slow Cookin' episode. The whole thing kills me.
Enjoy the Food Network. More than that, try their stuff. Still I want to try the thing that Emril did on the first show I ever watched, more than ten years ago on the "Essence". Braided bread, (sundried tomato, black olive and something else), then using it to make a Duck Con Feit sandwich. NICE!

I worship Food Network, big ups to the people behind that channel on making it very fun to watch.
Good Eats is just amazing, I really wish they had a DVD library of it. I do have Alton's Book, which I highly recommend. I also found out he lives sort of close to me and knows people i know, hopefully ill get a chance to meet him.
Paula is just fun to watch, southern food is just gooooooood!
If you really want an amazing cookbook that is more than just recipes check out the Culinary Institute of America's "The Professional Chef" 8th ed. It's pricey, but by god does it show you everything about everything. It just sort of inspires me.

For the guy that posted abut Alton Brown having DVDs of "Good Eats" he does. I think every episode ever in groups of I think 4 DVDs. Check out FoodNetwork.com, they have to offer it. The shows are theirs legally.

Kitchen Nightmares
Food Network Challenge
Top Chef
But as far as actualy cooking shows go, I really like Food Jammers, and past that whatever has the best recipe at the moment (except one show.. Can't for the life of me think of a title, but the host annoys the hell out of me. Chef at Home? Is that a show?)

For someone who loves almost ALL cooking shows, just accidentally flipping to the Food Network when Rachel Ray is cackling away throws me into a vomit spewing fit. She is quite possibly the most annoying, fake, trailer park, mass marketed piece of crap to hit the airwaves.
But those frightful moments are evened out by the times I flip over to Food Network and hit the goddess Giada lovingly leaning over a couple of ripe tomatoes....
mmmmmmm.........

I'm more of a Gordon Ramsay, Tony Bourdain, and Andrew Zimmern kind of guy... But I do watch Ace of Cakes every now again because of all the stupid sh!t he and his staff are always up to... I appreciate Gordon Brown on an intellectual level, but at the same time he's just a little too Bill Nye the Science Guy for me... I like my cooks to be cooks...

How can you not love a guy who went from a degree in drama, to music videos (he was director of photography for an REM video), to culinary school.
Why culinary school? It wasn't so he could become a chef, but because he wanted to make a better cooking show.

Umm...YEAH...
His show's called Good Eats. It's been around for a hell of a long time on FN. It's definitely a show to get your geek on. Recently, though, his recipes haven't been that good.
He's also did a traveling road food show called Feasting on Asphalt.
Here, watch this episode of Good Eats called "Flat is Beautiful", where he does Pizza, and in the process explains Yeast and Gluten.
Part 1 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-BhVPgllLW8)
Part2 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=H_-o0q3a2w4&feature=related)
You'll see he loves visual aids, science, and gadgets. He gives you the why instead of just the recipe.

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives - I love this show. The laid-back host, Guy Fieri, checks out independent restaurants across the country, and he finds some real goldmines worth checking out. They're either traditional restaurants that makes top-quality food or restaurants that go out of their way to make some of the most outlandish foods you'll ever see. Their top chefs will usually churn out recipes of some of the most popular items on their menus.
Unwrapped - Marc Summers, former host of one of Nickelodeon's best game shows, Double Dare, goes into the history and production of some of the most popular snacks on the market.

I prefer shows where they give you the basics such a Good Eats. Though secrets of a restaurant chef is growing on me. I also like Mario Batali, because I get a bit a knowledge about Italy and Sicily where my mother's ancestors came from. I will watch Rachael Ray once in a while which is a lot less than I used to. If paula deen does something from scratch I might watch her. I have watched Miguel Chiarello (sp?) ever since he was on pbs. Io preferisco cucina italiana.
