ok, so I am going to "bring it" and offer a couple others, while i do agree with some of the list I have to say you missed a couple that are far better than some of the ones on that list, For instance Rocky Horror, i mean really how was that not on there??? and possible one of the best cult movies of all time The Big Lebowski, it doest get much better than that.

Good list, but how can Evil Dead, Rocky Horror (midnight showings anyone), and The Big Lebowski (brought the White Russian back) not on that list.

Since when is Fight Club a cult film?
What about:
Army of Darkness
Evil Dead 2
Pulp Fiction
Escape from NY / LA
Falling Down
The Evil Dead series is pretty much the quintessential cult series, I don't know how it's not on there.
Aside from that, I've got to agree with the Big Lebowski love! Or at least something by the Coens
I dunno if I'd say Python are cult...
Rocky Horror should've been on, if you haven't seen this in theatres with all the props and singalongs you guys are totally missing out.
What about Brazil or 12 Monkeys?
Royal Tenebaums or some other Wes Anderson?

Consider it "brought-n" THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW how was this not on there and Napoleon Dynamite was??? its a great movie but it isn't a cult movie...(at least anymore) and Fight Club, WTF??? How is any movie with Brad Pitt a cult movie

I would have to agree--Evil Dead 1-2, and Army of Darkness is totally missing.

Most of the above movies are too popular to be CULT MOVIES - Cult Movies are not popular - Napoleon Dynamite was seen by every frat boy and idiot high school kid in america - Fight club was a hit at the box office, not a cult movie
Real cult movies...
Repo Man
Buckaroo Banzai
Return of the living dead
The Keep
Withnail and I
Flash Gordon
Heavy Metal
Killing Zoe
Pink Flamingos
Night of the creeps
....Real cult movies. Just because a movie is weird dosent make it cult

Empire of the sun.
Should be a mainstream classic but it came out at a time in the 80's when over the top action and horror films and sci fi was king.....and in Empire of the sun we get a very young 13 year old Christian Bale and was maybe Spielburgs best films ever but often forgotten.
Amazing film about a british boy in WWII going from spoiled rich british child with a passion for planes to surviving Japanese concentration camps and his transformation in just a couple years.

Some awesome responses here!! "Cult movies" is one of those topics people feel passionately about. I got some good new movie recommendations out of this thread.

Oh you all can not leave out some of the very best cult flicks:
The Boondock Saints (Probably the greatest flick of all time!)
Dune (The original is way better than the remake! Although the remake wasn't tooooo bad.)
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch (Yes I know it has Brad Pitt in it, but it also happens to be his very best while relatively unknown role!)

I think they should have defined what they think makes a Cult movie. I'm glad they didn't include Pulp Fiction, cause it's not cult. But why include Napoleon Dynamite? When it came out, everyone around where I live was quoting it for months and months... Hardly a cult film, when I hear it get quoted every 5 seconds.
Also, I'm kind of disappointed that no one has said The Goonies. That's a great "cult" film.

Don't get me wrong, gobo, the Big Lebowski is a great one and I'm a huge Coen Brothers and Wes Anderson fan, but it's just a tough list to make because there are so many good ones. Rocky Horror seemed too obvious, but yes, the midnight screenings are special!
Oh I know it's a tough list, and totally subjective. That's the awesome thing when people suggest a list, it's so easy to get into heated, ridiculous discussions about them.

Why is Repo Man even liked?
It just seemed like another low budget piece of shit film and easily forgettable like many 80's film at the time.

the movie doesn't need to be barely known to be a cult classic, isn't something considered a cult hit when it doesn't really do well in the box office but develops a CULT following later on?

as far as I'm concerned, the starwars, bond, startrek franchises are cult flicks. Just really huge ones.

Three movies that definitely need to be there (though I did agree with most of your movies):
12 Monkeys
Army of Darkness
and one not mentioned yet...
Boondock Saints

I think Brick should be on the list. Any of the Monty Python movies should be on there too.

By the way if anyone likes Office space go get Idiocracy
Same people who did Office space.
What is scary is some of it is happening right now haha

Idiocracy was a moderately interesting idea, but god damn it was executed incredibly poorly, I was so disappointed by it.

I completely agree. Given the subject matter, I'm not sure if it was intentional or just ironic (or intentionally ironic), but the humor was incredibly stupid.

A better movie that came out at the same time--Brother From Another Planet
You know, I saw part of that on cable way back when, and for over a decade I thought that's what people were referring to when they mentioned Repo Man...eventually, someone mentioned Estevez and I realized it wasn't.
I really need to watch both of them all the way through though.

I completely forgot about that movie. Saw it once probably more than 20 years ago (it had just come to vhs) and loved it. I'm going to have to track down a copy and see it again soon.
That reminds me of another little known (arguably cult) gem from my youth that I used to love, but haven't seen in ages ... The Gods Must Be Crazy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080801/)
