I would love to live during the time of ancient Rome during which a lot of the fundamentals of existence, such as chemistry, were being discovered. Also when all of that absolutely marvelous architecture was built and the great things such as the Library at Alexandria still existed and could be visited.

Well, now. If I had been born a few years earlier, I'd have been dead because the medical technology that kept me alive when I was a teenager was so new that being born a few years earlier would have killed me.

If that weren't an issue, I would like to have been alive during the Elizabethan era, I think. Perhaps be a farmer's wife. Court would have been nice at times, but women were chattel for much of history. Only in the past 30 or so years have we been free enough to do as we wish. I just can't stand the idea of marrying for a reason other than love, and the working class and farmers were the ones who were allowed to do that.

In my early 20s I had a series of very vivid dreams over a period of a week inwhich I lived in the late middle ages. I startd as a child in a village that was indentured to a blacksmith, who died, and then I worked in a foundry on the edge of a mountain top cty. I rose to fame as a weapons maker and armourer. The city came under attack and was seized, and my life was spared by the king who saw not the armour I was making or the weapons he needed, but my grasp of mechanical gadgets, and my personal collection of manuscripts on sciences.

Not a time I would choose to live, but one that I feel I have lived before.

In the future when the enterprise from TNG is built..no money and can explore the universe and just be a writer to what I observe in my travels.

No, just wanted to be in one of those communities at the time. I'm not jewish but it makes for a nice setting. Staten Island, Russian Hill, Flatbush Brooklyn etc I like 'coming of age' stories set in that time, plus my fathers stories blew my mind. My dad delivered groceries for about $2.00/week to support his mother and sister when he was 8 yrs old. He was unemployed for 3 months total from that age, until he died. The jewish part doesn't mean that much, I'd settle for 1st gen italian or irish immigrant spawn, like my dad was. In the fantasy, I'd move to the village around 1957-58 and work in radio/tv/journalism/film in Manhattan.

I've said where I think I might have lived in a past life, but as for anywhere in time ... I'd pick the California Goldfields during the 1890's. Not as a miner, but as an engineer or blacksmith (again with the metal work :rolleyes: ). I am also learning the banjo so I'd fit right in.
