So I just started using Pownce

I first started using it when it was in beta and left unimpressed but trying it out again.
I am also trying to build a few friends since the first two friends I tried it with back in beta also hated it then neither of them used it since and don't think they will ever get back to it.

I go by Ryudo 9 and pretty new to this social website sorta stuff.:o

Yes. Yes, you can. And you can use twitter for updates. But I like being able to share something cool I found with all my friends at the click of a button. Yes, i am well aware that I could create mailing lists and what not, but I already have pownce* so I am just going to use that.

*I actually haven't launched pownce in quite a while.

That is why I left unimpressed originally but I am gathering this is more like a mini blog and can be used as internet version of post it notes to friends...or so my limited time on it is what I make of it.

It's not for sending stuff to a single recipient. It's for distributing files, links and messages to a list of recipients.

I have no experience in Twitter and the like, but I have seen a difference between IM, e-mail and Pownce. BTW - I use the online version, not the desktop app.

#1 - E-mail can deliver a song or two, but can you play the song before downloading? Pownce has a player built in. Plus, you don't have to clog up your inbox with "that friend's" e-mails every day (the ones with the link to the youtube video you saw a week ago). You can play the video when you drop by Pownce.
#2 - What about IM, you say? But with IMs you have to be available to receive, or else you have a window open on your desktop.
#3 - Lastly, its kinda like a fountain of odd links and discussions by people you may not know, but if you accept their friend requests you get odd and end stuff that is occasionally interesting. Yes, you can send and receive personal messages that no one else sees.

to me pownce is all about who you have on your list. personally i dont want to hear about your breakfast nor do i feel anyone cares about mine. i like people like veronica belmont and others that use it to post content and useful thing to each other. i find twitter is better for the " what am i doing now " stuff.

so make sure you get a good list going. if you dont know who to add, just add everyone for a while then drop people that you dont want. it takes a bit to get into cause you have to build your content list / friend list, but in the end it can be pretty fun. if your like me and have a iphone or other phone its great for when you got 5 min or so of thumb twiddle time.

I've been really tempted to abandon Pownce lately. It takes forever to load for me on my old ibook, and the few people on my list I see here or on chat on a daily basis anyway. but I do like the file share thang, and seeing Mashers daily fotos...

and I just now had to un-friend bMan, not cause I don't like him, but he fills a full pownce page with meaningless stuff no one replies to, and makes me load the "next" page to see if my other friends have posted anything interesting.

Odd thing is, just signed up with twitter the other day, and it instantly had a huge shut down for two days... so either, twitter, constant errors, or pownce, constant slow load?

gonna keep em both, but check them infrequently, and hang here at rev3 where shit just works...

(but adding you all to my friends lists anyway, haha)
